I really don't understand why the Persona series is so rated, my working theory being it's a friend simulator for people who would never admit to themselves they would play such a game.

Generally social links are incredibly shallow, people sort their shit out by themselves while you stand around periodically making vaguely affirming comments that don't mean anything.
There's literally no difference in interaction whether you're best friends forever or just acquantainces outside of social link scenes, to the point where apparently you can be fucking four girls who hang out every day and not one of them will ever mention it to the others. The characters themselves are incredibly shallow. Everything exists in a vaccuum, unrelated to anything else.
The combat is mind numbingly dull. Every single encounter follows the same general strategy, from the start to the finish. You will never have to put thought into it.

Probably one of the shallowest games I've ever played. Stylish though, that's one thing it does have.

Anyways everyone knows the worst JRPG protagonist is Vaan. Nothing else comes close.
