It's terrible. The upvote system ensures every subreddit remains an echo chamber, because only posts that confirm to the mods and the mobs' views will remain visible. Combine this with the popular method of looking up a person's post history to insult them if they said something they didn't approve, and you get a place that is so much more cancer than Yea Forums can ever hope to be, despite how shit this place is.

I used to use GameFAGs for discussion but ended up getting banned for making a joke about underage.
I would have had to doxx myself to get unbanned and I decided it wasn't worth it

for discussing individual games it's okay but if you want something like Yea Forums where multiple games get discussed their video games board is absolute shit and is just a wank fest to try and get karma points. it's a roll of the dice as to whether or not a given subreddit is good for discussion or a meme-filled shitfest. subreddits tend to develop their own cultures, also, which inevitably stymies legit discussion. it's basically just Yea Forums with usernames and upvote circlejerks.

I discovered Yea Forums after I started using Reddit, I use Reddit for serious discussions and Yea Forums for taking a word dump and watch anons swarm over it like shit eating flies they are.

objectively untrue. ignoring even the argument that an upvote system which prioritizes what you see and the stream of content prioritizing preexisting popularity is worse than an anonymous or account based image board, i can safely say that large subreddits, especially the gaming ones, are some of the worst things imaginable. the moderation, the community and the system itself is all worse than alternatives.
