One is Trela, a guy who amounts to little more than a local bully in EU who refuses to leave because he would get bodied in actual tournaments. The other is Tweek, who is decently but began playing Smash by fagging up the place with Cloud in 4. Both of these guys are way better with other characters. When you remove these 2 players Ridley has never placed ever.

Why does up b take so long to come out? Why is he slow in the air? Hell why does he have such endlag? Being large is all the drawback a character needs. He could be heavier too. Seriously it's utter bullshit that Ridley gets outranged by characters smaller than him, or can't survive as long as some lighter characters due to recovery. I don't think Ridley is bad, he just has some unneeded weaknesses.

To be fair, nerfing projectiles overall helps him more than it hurts him.

They should listen to fans though. Ridley just needs some tweaks to be solid mid tier instead of middish.

Skewer should ignore fucking everything if you get the sweetspot. That move is so damn difficult to land against a semi competent player and the damage tradeoff isn’t worth the risk, especially in a game where getting gimped early makes the damage meaningless

I think it really comes down to familiarity with the series, Fire Emblem is big in Japan so Sakurai would be far more likely to play it regularly, same as Persona which he was a big fan of which shows with the care put into Joker.
The Metroid fanbase in Japan is almost nonexistent, and Ridley is usually the second last boss of games that can take quite a while to complete on a first playthrough, so familiarity with the character would be low and even after research you might not have the same passion as with others.
For me the #1 biggest change I would make to Ridley before all others is to remove is absolutely useless dair and replace it with something that represents his classic tail spike move he uses in basically every metroid game, give it a spike hitbox at the tip of the tail, and its already a far far superior move to his current dair even if it had horrible framedata, and better represents Ridley's moveset in the games.

What the hell do you do against Joker as Ridley? Hit him a few times or try and attack while he's in his counter stance and his Persona comes out. Which gives him Ganondorf power with FE speed. His normal attacks come out faster than Ridley's and somehow feel like they outranged him too. This matchup is pissing me off because I'm shit at dealing with him.

Just bait counter stance and grab or side B it. Space him out with your tilts where possible but to avoid projectiles you're going to need to rely on your aerials. Against joker I usually just nair their % up and punish counters with my down throw combo, and then fish for side Bs when his percentage is high enough, though I can get a dash attack or side smash in if they fuck up.

I hope he gets some noticable buffs at some point. Past two updates he's gotten jack shit more or less.

I think I'm just bad at the game. Not matter what I do or try I don't really learn anything or get better. I'd say it was Ridley s shortcomings but it's more likely me. Unless Joker and various top tiers are just hard for him to deal with.
