In reality, Nintendo needed a very simple character as pre-order DLC, something that's not too over-the-top and something people wouldn`t be too mad about if it`s not in the standard game. It also had to be from a Mario game, because in essence, Smash is a "Mario game". Another option would have been Waluigi, but his fans would have gone completely insane if he'd be a pre-order character.

Plant by a mile. They started all the reveals with popular characters and mentioned how fan demand is what got them in. Then they show Incineroar who is devisive even in pokemon fandoms before having a huge Assistpocolypse killing any hope for the last never evers for the next ten years. Then revealed a generic mook is paid DLC. The best way to describe would be poorly planned, and the worst spiteful.

If they never mentioned the ballot or fan demand, there wouldn’t be nearly as much blowback because then we could fall back on the Sm4sh argument of ‘they just add who they want shut up.’ But they didn’t and incurred the ire of the many fans who got YUPPED.

Really it would have just been better to add the rest of the ballot hopefuls as DLC than any other way since characters and series without anything in Smash are currently what makes up the fighter pass. Corrin, as a concept, I don’t think is too bad. I think the real problem is that Corrin shouldn’t have been the sole lead of the game.

Look at Robin, one of the only other metrics we can measure a protagonist like Corrin against. A lot of people claim Rob was a lot more insufferable than Corn, and I’m inclined to agree for one main reason

PP was sort of a "fuck you, heres someone no one asked for" also, but it only felt that way because it was revealed after getting the boringest ending to smash ultimates roster. PP itself is a chaarcter people have come to be fond of despite not really being asked for, unlike corrin who still has like no fans.

Had the timing for PP been different I'd have been fine with it as an extra character for ultimates roster, it only felt like a fuck you cause of the timing. corrins timing was bad but would have sucked no matter what. Don't really care for Inceroar. I think it looks ugly. Tried of Starters being shilled, and an other fire starter being in Smash. But I am not mad over it's inclusion. The funniest thing is that Azura IS supposed to be the deuteragonist to Kamui, similarly to how Robin and Lucina are to compliment Chrom throughout FE 13. In fact I think she’s even considered THE protagonist of FE 14 in Japan.

Piranha Plant is such a stupid addition that it loops back to being kind of exciting. In an era where people are asking for things like Bandanna Dee and a stack of Goombas, literally nobody expected plant.

You people only hate Pirahna Plant because you all got caught up in leaker bullshit. You hyped yourselves up to expect 7 fucking characters, only 2 of which were echoes and the 5 others would be either from new series or SMRPG.
No matter who the character was (unless it was another anticipated 3rd party character) you would be having a hissy fit either way.
Pirahna Plant also provides a drastically different moveset/concept from other characters, even if it does mean his Specials are slow.

Corrin on the otherhand, was always a definitive shill pick, on par with Roy from the same series.
Corrin, unlike Pirahna Plant, also is yet another Swordsman, but with a few gimmicks. Corrin’s inclusion makes the roster feel more like “Marth, vagina marth, bat marth, dragon marth, ect.” (even if their moveset has all original moves) rather than dozens of characters with their own identities.

Corrin I'm just mad about because it's the kind of character inclusion I never want to see in Smash, advertising for a game that hasn't proven itself. Smash Bros. should be the dream crossover fighter first, billboard second. People should discover characters by consequence because they happen to be in the game, not by having them forced into their faces.

Corrin, at least Piranha Plant has had an established place in vidya history compared to some literal who from a game that wasn't even released yet.

Corrin's reveal was awful, but he's one of my favorite characters to play as. His moves flow together beautifully and the transformations give him a unique flavor compared to the rest of the cast as well as provide a dragon rep for FE just like Robin gave us a mage rep. I wouldn't say he deserved to be in the game, but I'm glad he is in retrospect.

Plant's fun too, despite all the memes people force on it. It feels like you're actually playing as a stage hazard, which is a fun concept that I hope gets some fine-tuning in future patches. The reveal was fine too.

I discovered my love of pikmin when he was announced during Brawl. I went out and rented pikmin 1 and 2 to see what it was all about and fell in love with the series. So it's odd they would think any series that hasn't been active cant become active with smash's help

I wouldn't say he's forgotten, that redesign in smash 4 to make him look like a newer toy with a string spine and flip-open bits when he flies was pretty rad. Wish they'd do something about all the clipping during his final smash and when holding items though.

The worst part of the FE picks is just how many of them could of just been skins for Marth like the koopalings are for bowser jr. I've never played FE myself but I've had friends show me popular side characters from the series and it kills me to see that people with no real understanding of the series get a pretty poor view of it from smash.

Four of them are literally just skins for marth with different gameplay already. FE basically only has 4 reps.

desu Joker's trailer was really gritting. Any FE trailer makes me bored out of my mind as well. There's something about this particular dubbing that really makes it feel forced and very plain. Anime games were much bearable when we didn't have dub voices at every cutscene. And even if they are Japanese, the voices can be very repetitive as well. It's more how scripted it feels and not really that natural, like we're miring this alternative dimension of perfect beings that always churn out dialogues until we get that excrutiating feeling of deja vu and realize how "fake" and "nice" or "extremely dramatized" it actually is because it feels like we're playing a game and seeing a NPC talk the same line after a while, so much that it becomes ingrained. Really odd to explain. I don't have problems with older English anime dubbing for some reason.
