I heard from people already playing the game for a few days that the grind in this game is completely bullshit, on the levels of mobile games.
basically the towers of time require a huge amount of currency to even be accessed.
and then the diffuclty spike is insane and reaches almost impossible levels. one example was

And keep in mind that the AI at these levels also reads your inputs. And all that for a few gears.

I think that's a fair thing. In the older MK titles the blood and gore was there, but it wasn't main focus. Blood did flow and fatalities were just as hilarious, but now it feels like the newer MK titles are just copying slasher films. The focus on the gore is just unneeded, but since their gameplay is still nothing but 50-50 I can see why they want people to just look at their amazong gore and graphics and nothing else.

my problem is that the character designs are just boring in general. the OGs look good (scorpion, sub zero, noob, shao kahn, even jax). But it's not an exaggeration to say that all of the female models are wearing body armor or other cloth from head to toe. The one exception is kitana which at least wears a leotard like in the older games.
I bought MKX ultimate complete all DLC edition for $20 recently so I'm just going to play that and wait to see what changes are made.
It's just not worth buying anything on release day anymore with day 1 DLC and guaranteed bugs.
My hope is that they listen to the backlash and release some costumes that aren't so boring and hideous.
If not I will happily just skip this iteration. MKX netcode doesn't seem too bad to me, but I am pretty new to it.
