The writers blew their load way too early with the story of P5, because none of the later villains even come close to Kamoshida.
The way he treated Ann and drove Shiho to commit suicide by jumping from the school roof made the conflict very personal, so it was extremely satisfying taking him down.
The later villains don't even come close to this, even though the writers always try to make them seem bigger than life. A famous painter, a huge food company owner that's aiming to become a politician, a bank owner, etc.
I think Niijima's palace is the second highest peak of the game, but too bad the game couldn't maintain this peak throughout.
Just a reminder that I'm not talking in terms of Palace/Dungeon design, but just in terms of story, characters, and stakes.
This is the reason why I prefer P4's story over P5. Because P4 was set in a small town, with the events and crimes occuring within this small town and seeing their effects. It made conflicts more personal, especially when Nanako is kidnapped. It's not like P5 where the entire fucking world is jizzing their pants over the Phantom Thieves.
I have not played Persona 3 yet but I plan to really soon.
i stopped playing midway through okumura's palace because it was just so fucking boring. the first area of it makes you fight over 4 minibosses that have a random chance of holding an item. funnily enough, haru isnt even effective against the enemies you get in okumura's palace so i didnt even use her for the time that i played it. also >enemies that can instakill you with no defense against it
Isaac Powell
The Casino is the peak and best palace, best storyline, best characters.
Jace Ramirez
It's not random, you just probably suck at collecting intel.
John Clark
correct me if im wrong, but dont all of the minibosses have the same character model? if you start dialogue with them you cant exit the dialogue without killing them and "looks like this isnt the right robot"
Luke Brown
My exact thoughts on the story. Still enjoyed the whole game, though. Haru feels like an afterthought.
Aaron Wright
Kamoshida only felt that way because everyone but Morgana had personal stakes in that fight, after that you have one person who really wants to stop them and the others along for the ride because Phantom Thieves. Persona 4 didn't have to worry about this because all of your party members were victimized by the killer before so them signing on to fight with you makes sense and while the dungeons aren't exactly personal for them, they're doing what any decent person would do and sticking their neck out to save the life of a person in trouble, which makes the first final dungeon much more personal because those stakes ARE introduced.
Nicholas Howard
You have to sneak around rooms with small robots and overhear them. They give you pointers about the big robots, and then you just cross-reference collected data. If the big robot isn;t like that you heard from small robots (at every change of shift there is new boss and every small robot has new line), then it's not the right robot.
Aiden Murphy
Third eye dude They literally show you this in kamoshida's palace
Elijah Kelly
I've only finished Kamoshida's, Madarame's, Kaneshiro's, and Futuba's palaces. While I've heard that the Casino is the best palace, I'm completely unimpressed with everything except Kamoshida's arc and the aesthetic of Madarame's palace. (Conversely, Futuba's palace is pathetic; looks like something out of a PS2 game, even the quality of the textures.)
You're right though. It's ironic that the smallest target is the peak of the game. Beyond being directly relevant to the protagonist, he was a well-defined character whose flaws were believable, human. You really felt that the school was his castle; him monitoring the halls, having students fawn over him makes him more relevant to the story than any other target. You really want to "take down" Kamoshida because his crimes, and the arrogance with which he commits them, are constantly on display despite being concealed. In contrast, who gives a fuck about Madarame and the amazing autist? The story of Sayuri is so melodramatic as to be unbelievable. Kaneshiro? He's scum but he's less of a bad guy than the Chad diddling girls at your high school because we're told to believe he is instead of seeing some sort of meaningful consequences of his crimes. Oh no, nameless student running drugs, gosh.
P4 - beyond being set in a small town where everything is personal - had the overarching story of the murder mystery to carry characters whose pre-dungeon characterization didn't engender the player's interest. And it did a much better (and less painfully predictable) job of introducing each character and putting forth the effort to make the player care before being able to actually interact with them. P5 in contrast has no respect for the player in the way it's written. It rarely earns your interest in its story or characters. Fucking boring game with some good shining through outside of the main story.
Austin Nelson
>First final dungeon Hehe.
Hunter Fisher
i have a feeling you going to enjoy persona 3 story very much. just, dont play the answer. watch it on youtube.
James Harris
why is everyone jizzing over the casino? it felt way to short. i liked the boat more.
Grayson Morgan
The boat was the worst next to the Spaceport, those fucking shitty corridors and mouse sections can go to hell
Kevin Edwards
Boat had a problem with the interior puzzle sections being really long, repetitive, and no interesting scenery. Casino has really nice visuals and added different minigames and challenges.
Caleb Smith
Completely agree. I still think P5 is an amazing game, but there were many points where I was bored with the story. I just needed some motivation to continue playing. I ended up finishing the game one year after I bought it, I stopped playing the game for months once in Okumura's Palace and another in Shido's Palace.
In contrast, when I first played Persona 4 Golden on my PS Vita I was completely addicted, I played it every day for a week until I finished it. The game didn't blow it's entire load in the first dungeon. They saved up a lot of cool shit later on like the death of the Teacher Morooka and Nanako's Dungeon.
Casino>castle>museum>bank=pyramid>shit>mementos last section>boat>space station
Kevin Parker
Kamoshida is overrated af desu
Lucas Phillips
He's not an amazingly well-written character, but he was a really great motivator and seeing him get his ass kicked was satisfying.
Charles Baker
Atlus really need to hire writers. I don't expect vidya to carry the same narrative weight as other media, since games have other positive aspects to compensate, but Persona's stories are becoming more blatantly rehashed and sloppy with each installment.
Ryan Campbell
And yet P5 is the most shilled and most popular it seems. I dislike the direction they took but retards eat it the fuck up.
Gabriel Hall
translation: "i'm mad that geno, banjo and isaac didn't get into smash instead of joker, so i'm going to parrot e-celebs to pretend that persona 5 was a bad game."
Dylan Allen
Unfortunately 5 was so well received both popularly and critically that it isn't likely that they'll seriously improve the series with the next iteration. It's depressing; we'll probably have to wait two more games for a truly amazing Persona game.
Luke Stewart
I think they didn't put that much effort into the story and focused more on everything else. They probably didn't expect P5 to end up as popular as it did. Going from a series where its most popular game is on the PS Vita, I couldn't really blame them. lol
That's mostly because people have only played Persona 5. It doesn't help when the best version of P4 is stuck on a dead system and P3 has no real definitive version.
Jaxson Gomez
>The Boat That dungeon overstayed its welcome. I remember there being rumors of a dungeon being cut which is why Shido's dungeon is so fucking long.
Henry Wright
this is sad if true, desu. im currently playing through the game and am just about to enter the palace for real. so far I really like the story and think that Kamoshida is a good motivator.
>It's not okay for Kamoshida to date a student >It's okay for Kawakami to date a student ???
Wyatt Cruz
See, you only think that way because it was personal. He fucked with you by releasing the rumors about you, he fucked with your new friends and after successfully doing so with Ryuji and almost succeeding with Ann, you saw him trying to still fuck with your friends after you befriended them, etc. the reason why you think he's the best villain is because he was YOUR villain.
Every other villain in the game is someone else's villain. Madarame is Yusuke's villain, Okumura is Haru's villain, Kaneshiro becomes Makoto's villain, etc. You don't care about them because they're not really YOUR enemies.
David Stewart
>This is the reason why I prefer Part 4's story over Part 5. Because Part 4 was set in a small town, with the events and crimes occuring within this small town and seeing their effects. It made conflicts more personal, especially when Shigechi is killed..
Purse Owner is just JoJos.
Xavier Morris
I hated that fucking part of the game. I hated how you get railroaded into acting like such a cuck that let's kamoshida say/do whatever he wants and not pick up on the million abusive warning signs. It was terrible. Just 5+ hours of "I guess we can't do anything guys :>" nonsense until the game let's you properly explore the dungeon and do something about it
Carson Bailey
You're correct. P5 is way more polished, but P3/P4 are better games. I've replayed those games countless times, and I beat P5 when it came out back in 2017 and have not replayed it since. It was truly a mass of wasted potential.
Evan Allen
What really sucked about P5 was the final boss. P3 and P4 had absolutely fantastic final bosses coupled with incredible battle music for their fights. P5 had neither of those things.
Leo Johnson
The relationship with Kawakami wasn't abusive and it was consensual.
I'm not trying to justify the relationship in a real-life context, but seeing as Joker is meant to represent the player, you have the mental maturity to consent to the relationship.
Luis Price
stop making everything about smash, holy fucking shit least wanteds living in your head rent-free
David Hernandez
just out of curiosity, who do you think is spamming all these butthurt threads about p5 lately, right after joker's dlc came out?
Camden Roberts
OP here. I think P5 is an amazing game and I jizzed my pants when he was announced for Smash. I just think that P5's story could've been better and doesn't hold up to the previous games.
Persona 3 and 4 are still remembered and talked about today. I think P5 will be just fine, especially since it's now represented in the best-selling Smash game ever.
Benjamin Parker
Was about to post something similar to this. I see a lot of comments since Persona 5's release that say the game "peaked" at the first dungeon. It only makes sense that people say that because of the scope of that first goal.
>P3 has no real definitive version. u wot
Christian Cox
Go back to /pg/ faggots
David Garcia
This, i liked the story setup but from game persepctive it kept breaking flow to go in, just to get kicked out, then watch him do something shitty again and repeat 2~3 times til "oh, now we need to do this"
madarame in contrast set all his stakes/tension as it went on more naturally and you only got pulled out once i think? Though i think kamoshida woulda worked better if the walls were introduced there rather than in madarames and were just used more in general
Camden Diaz
nothing sexual with kawakami. you just rest your head on her lap.
Jeremiah Allen
>They probably didn't expect P5 to end up as popular as it did They went HEAVY on the marketing. They knew what they were doing. >P3 has no real definitive version. Yes it does: FES. P3P is a fun "what if?" scenario and nothing more.
Jose Morales
>and were just used more in general i honestly hope the next one doesn't i just hated having to basically be stopped from trying to explore the dungeon in one go to maximize personal growth time.
Luis Collins
>a bank owner People who watch let's plays of games and then talk about them like they've played them should be banned.
Juan Moore
>walls Walls were awful. I should be able to go through the dungeon in one day, at least in NG+. On a first playthrough, I do think there should be a more organic way to make the player have to do the dungeon over several days (e.g. lower max SP), to make the time management aspect more intelligent.
Brandon Reed
No. Faggot.
James Myers
Kamoshida was trying to blackmail/force Anne into a relationship, like he did with Shiho. Consent matters, although your age/power difference comparison is still apt.
"You don't like me, but if you don't date me, I'll destroy your best friends' hopes and dreams" vs. "hey, we both are attracted to each other, let's date."
Jayden Torres
NG+ or even doing it again i can see being an issue yeah. But he game gives you so much additional time to work with i never really felt it was ruining anything as far as personal/s.link growth went, i just thought they were done pretty well from a writing standpoint, that or im just annoyed it got used once and made out to be some important thing then you never see it again that im aware of
Blake Edwards
I have played the game, I just forgot he was a mafia boss. Though to be fair his shadow is a bank owner.
This just further reinforces my point that Kamoshida is the best villain, while the rest were really unmemorable for the most part. Kaneshiro being the least memorable imo.
Jose Cruz
t. autistic
Jordan Miller
In Royale will i be able to send movies back to the store via mail? i want to watch the movies, but not have morgana fuck me over with forced sleep and fees.
John Russell
Makoto ruined Persona 5.
Mason Clark
The good thing about Kaneshiro is the fact that he kickstarted a good amount of Makoto rape doujins
Kamoshida was the best villain, and the rest paled in comparison. Kaneshiro was good because of the direct impact to Makota, you actually felt like you were directly saving one of your friends. The more disconnected from the main group you were, or the more contrived the scenario to get them involved, the worse it was. Still loved it, and waiting for Royal.
Jose Torres
>In the Casino Palace >Only playing the game on weekends now It's hard to keep going, but I've played so much already I want to see it through.
They treat their writers like shit, don't you remember the Tadashi fiasco and how they told the writer of DDS to fuck off and replaced her with another guy for the sequel?.
Okumura's palace is personal favorite the theme was really kickass and I just love sci-fi themes. You're just bad though I can understand why people wouldn't like it with the puzzles and Morgana's stupid midlife crisis which made Haru irrelevant.
