Did you even play the previous ones? Half of them were not goof. Main trilogy was the best with 3 being the top.
New game has more grounded combat but it's solid and has a ton of more places to explore to find upgrades. The previous games were essentially one way gauntlets with minimal and basic upgrade systems while the new game has far more variety in upgrading Kratos.

The old god of war games dazzled the gamers with the spectacular big boss battles/quick time events. The gameplay is good on normal and bad on the hardest difficulty. The new one nailed the gameplay.
