People will defend Steam being stuffed full of garbage till the cows come home, but the reality is that Valve is just lazy and cheap. They can't be bothered to set up a team that would sort through every game and decide if it's absolute garbage or not. They would much rather just have everyone pay $100 to gain entry. And then they can turn around and claim they're "promoting an open marketplace" by doing absolutely nothing.

That's not to say Epic's store doesn't have a ton of problems too.

Sure some meme games slipped through but most of the trash never saw the light of steam.
plus seeing the devs getting butthurt when their games were told being shit was delicious

because people paid bots to get so many upvote which made it useless. Also steam set the bar REALLY low. Personally I liked it and never had a problem with it.

All they had to do was allow only accounta that are at least 1 year old to be able to apply for voting position. Then, only give it to certain people. And done, you have a perfectly curated shop that has exactly what people want.
