Alex tries fighting off a comet created by parallel versions of himself who want to destroy realities for some reason (I wasn't really paying attention to the why), comet wins and kills all his friends and family and all he has left is to travel the space between the dimensions alone. Panda is sort of his imaginary friend and basically the last person from his original world, and even he leaves him. The rest of the game has Alex follow other versions of himself as they destroy other worlds with comets until he figures out a way to stop them and asks another version of himself and his friends (who are named after the answers you gave at the beginning of the game) for help. You defeat the Alex's in the comet (one of them is literally called Pretentious Alex by the way) and then you go on to defeat the original Alex by pretty much plugging him out which causes all but one version of Alex to exist (implied to be the Alex you named)

I think turning a dick into a good character can be very strong. I was reading a fantasy series and one of the books starts with an extremely unlikable character. He was so unlikable that I almost put the book down, and he was the only character that was followed for like the first quarter of the book.
He eventually grew into the absolute best character in the series by learning from his mistakes, which was very strong to me because of the awful beginning.

There are plenty of games, movies, TV series, and all forms of media throughout history where the main character is supposed to be unlikeable and the story is still compelling. It's not a new idea. Yiik just didn't pull it off. What a fucking dope.

The entertainment part has to come first, and if you can make it artistic, then all the power to you. The problem is that many of those indie developers get it twisted and mix the priorities.

Not sure what's so confusing. They spent that much time making it but they were openly shilling for it MUCH earlier than 2019, as evidenced by it being namedropped in a game 2 and a half years earlier. I wouldn't be surprised if there were major redrafts and rebuilds that caused it to take so long.

it still at least tries to tell a decent story
and actually succeeds in a few regards
which is a lot more than I can say about a majority of other games
but because it's so visually archetypally onions you absolute brainlets can't look past your spergtier biases to see that for all of its faults it still stands above your typical boring ass "good vs evil" barebones videogame story
