You can just pirate the game and play the story mode, you've always been able to. Hell you can even play through offline mode (which is just the online mode, but offline, and you can call on AI from the game to join your party) if you want.

Bosses dropped weapons and for the higher quality rarer drops off their table they came has boards that you gave to your little robot assistant in your room. You then had to get materials off various monsters and as mission rewards which could be a giant pain in the ass depending on the rarity and then wait literal hours to days for your little robot shit to build it for you.

I remember vividly how much of a trophy a Psycho Wand was because not only was it a pain to get the fucking board you had to get a stupid rare material drop from the Parum Ruins.

Its one singular one up. Its a bit unstable, and has a few other problems due to so many people trying to create an account or just get into the game, but when it works it works.

Face it, PSO2 was mediocre at best.

PSO: 3 episodes, 2 have 4 levels, 1 has 2 levels: 10 levels total. You take charge mech guns and beat the game

PSU: You have 4 planets with a variety of areas. There is a bunch of class builds and weapons to experiment with. You can customize your character and own personal room for some down time. The combat was upgraded and is faster paced, smoother, and weapons can be linked with a photon art that gives you a special combo (for hunters), elemental bullets (rangers), or a bunch of technics/magic (forces)

PSU is good. PSO is outdated at this point

i still play PSO2, and i think the gameplay and the diversity in classes and weapons is the best part of the game.

The boss fights are also hilariously over the top, there are tons of great missions in the game, the music is still outstanding, and the options for customization are immense.

With that said, the storyline is the worst part of PSO2, and it's the worst part of ANY Phantasy Star game past PS4 on the fucking Sega Genesis.

It's easier to just turn your brain off, enjoy the spectacle of the boss fights, enjoy the weapons and how each one plays, and forget that the storyline ever existed.

PSU is refefreshing in that it's somewhat of an upgrade from PSO, but not as grindy as PSO2.

PSO is the original online game in the PSO series, but even I admit it hasn't aged all that great and I used to play on private servers all the time. PSU tried to update some of the mechanics so it's a refreshing take on the series.

It's not your forum account if that's what you're trying to sign in with. you sign in by typing in a username then _n after it (so username_n) in the username box, then the password you want. go through all the boxes, then it'll tell you it's set up, you go back to the log in, remove the _n, then you're set.

PsuIlluminus.ini in your appdata\local\SEGA folder allows you to, yeah.

It's done done. 100% feature complete as far as we know. People were up to 150-some, they said they want to stall growth a bit with this release so there's not a buttfuckton of people exploiting bugs that may appear in higher level content, so as it is now, level 60+ has a exponentially increased EXP rate, until the level up is achieved, then the level is set back to normal rates. So like, one guy is 60, working to 61, it requires 50x exp or something. But as soon as he hits 61, the other people trying to reach 61 will be able to get there with the normal exp, because the guy at 61 unlocked the normal exp for everyone else.

in the install folder, there's ClemLauncher, that lets you configure controls without having to edit a text file

clemlauncher also fucks with your game since it's the launcher for the old version.

worked fine for me, but that's a super shallow thing to say. I used the launcher, changed around my arrow keys to the way i like it, changed my screen resolution, and everything is working fine.

it's PSO but made to feel modern, but not as modern as PSO2.

You'll still end up playing on the same maps a lot, but there's a lot more maps this time, combat still feels the same but instead of heavy attacks you have photon arts, which are basically skills you can use with each weapon.

You can dual-wield one-handed weapons with one-handed guns, which works outstandingly well.

You're not limited to 6 abilities on a bar, but instead 2 abilities per weapon, and you can very quickly shift between 6 weapons on the fly.

I think you'll really enjoy it.

just the saber. And you can get PAs that hit multiple targets. I think Rising Strike can hit multiple enemies.

Basically you'll use your PAs, then attack to build TP back then use PAs again. You have to level your PAs, so use them often

I know JP PSU tried to fix some problems but us gaijin never saw that and PSU was like complete ass from what I've heard when it came to end game gearing. Yeah, with the new drop table, a ton of missions are viable. Gear is spread out evenly in psu. In pso2 you have to wait till 5 am for a thirty minute chance at whatever you want. Party sizes are up to 6 and good team play and positioning could go a long way.

So for example, you could have your acrotecher (main support with highest level buffs and debuffs) keep the party strong and healed. You could have a protranser (specializes in dropping very useful freeze/stun traps to disable enemies) keep mobs locked up. Then you have your main hunter/ranger/force classes who all check each others weaknesses. Some bosses or enemies fly, havng a ranger helps. Hunters and forces can plow through big mobs easier though with their aoe PAs and technics. There is no right way to play psu, because every class has its uses and something to offer for solo or group play

What race should I make? I remember Casts and Beasts had abilities Humans and Newmans couldn't get.

Iirc, they just dropped from events near the end of the game's life in jp. I got a bunch of them. I even told people the chat groups that I trashed a few just to trigger them. I actually did though because I screwed up with upgrading them. Best I got was like 9/9.

If you've just started, you can head to the 4th floor of the guardians colony and northeast from the stairs leading to the third floor is a mission counter with a level 1 mission. you gain xp by killing enemies(obv) and type points by finishing missions(how much you earn is based on rank at the end)
if you want to play, post your name or something. ive just been soloing this whole time and it can be boring
when you are at the login screen in-game, type the username you want and then end it with "_n" (so for example "ilikedicks_n") then enter the password you want. when you select log in you should get a message saying your account was created and it'll return you to the menu. you should now be able to log in using your name(without the "_n" this time) and password.

Post what kind of anime tiddes this game has or I'm passing.

this seems to really have only applied when the server went up. the server CURRENTLY is quite stable now that the initial influx has died. and of course, since its the first launch of the rewrite, they're expecting shit to break.

The last test had most of the game translated, there were a unimportant dialogues and I think mission names that were still in japanese, not sure of the current test though. Most of the game should be understandable. I just found an english voice patch on the forums too.

Unfortunately I do not think so. You have to do it from the launcher config, and the config itself is actually in Japanese. Not very difficult to navigate, but a slight pain if you're an EOP.

It's not like the endgame is much better in PSO or PSO2. You grind the same content forever so you can get a rare item that has a special but mostly useless effect or deals slightly more damage before against what you've already been grinding.

all of the other issues that you mentioned are schtserv incidents from 4 years ago that resulted in a community exodus to ultima and ephinea.
i dont know where your claim of low population on pso comes from. psobb ephinea in particular is very populated and has a community much larger than psu clementine. not bashing psu clementine, alot of us pso players enjoy both games but you seem to have an irrational hate for pso.

there's a passageway to the left, you will see the 2 crystals outsideof it, walk inside. That is the mission "counter", not a physical counter per se.

the actual "counters" your looking for are the loading points to the far left and right of the counter. they each contain different free missions. the one left from the counter is the lowest level one.

it is, other than the novelty of someone making a server of this it is going to die out very fast once people actually play the game

there is a good possibility that clementine will rebalance things to make psu a better game but official sega psu was a trainwreck in game balance and terrible design decisions.

as someone who has been playing on the test server for like a year or so
The game is very grindy and most of the fun is chatting with people while running missions, the actual game itself isn't that interactive, its just a platform to interact with the community for the most part
The problem is that majority of the community that plays are furries/trannies so if you are going into this alone you probably wont have much fun
However, if you have 2 or 3 other guys and are bored looking for something to play, PSU is a great time waster to play with ur lads

schtserv supports episode 3 with all of the official sega server balance changes. its a bit buggy but its under continuous development with frequent updates.

on psobb ephinea there is much better exp from other quests than TTF like Maximum Attack S and Tyrell's Ego. The few people that spam TTF on ephinea are mostly new people familiar with the official sega servers that are unaware of the changes that have been made.

I'm aware of tyrell's ego, but not about maximum attack S, when I grind characters to 80 its usually better to just spam dragon over and over for efficiency's sake. but I also usually do that solo... im sure in an actual group tyrell's is much much better if you can handle the mobs

the most efficient way to level up in the game is to start max attack s and then use the /lobby command after finishing the entire circle of the first room then repeat. get a high level player to carry you.

I tried to play PSO again, but after PSO2 I can't go back. Yes, the music, story and aesthetics are better. But the gameplay is just too lacking.

I'll even say the only reason why I enjoy pso to pso2 is nostalgia. Pso2 felt to foreign for me, didn't feel like pso to me

they are called partner machines in psu and they are your crafting machines. unfortunately they are useless unless you raise them in purely one stat and their diet never changes as they evolve. at their final evolution they change into android girls that you can bring on missions with you as an npc.

Why did this take that long? People had a year's heads up to packet capture it on PC before shit got shut down. 95% of the logic is on the game's side also, so it's just emulating the server lobby/state handler for quests/inventory/stats.

we have actually had psu private servers since 2012. this is actually the fourth psu private server but it is the most functional. clementine has been around since 2014 and this is the second clementine server after a rewrite. before clementine we had two incarnations of the "EGS server" that was actually more functional than the first clementine server. the old egs team and the clementine team are now working together on new clementine.

Edit the controls in the launcher, or plug in a 360 controller. The controls really aren't that bad by default honestly.
The hardest part is adjusting to them. But after you've used them for a day or two you get used to it. the worst part is holding up to use your offhand, that shit's unbearable so I bound it to num0

I'm getting about 300 and it's fine, since 90% of it is client side, it's just that actual damage distribution is server sided (so you can hit mobs they just won't take actual damage until the server receives the packets)

in 2012 egs server was made with packet capturing like you mentioned but it shut down after a year and they didn't share their data. the first clementine was built by pure reverse engineering and trial and error. then some of the old egs team connected with the clementine project and started to share data leading to the current clementine. hopefully they make their data public at some point so the game doesn't just vanish forever.

No, it's all english as far as I've seen, if you're on jap unicode page it might be buggy but you can hotswap that with a two letter change in an .ini file.
It even has french and german, but i'm not sure how complete those are.
