- A major plot point of the game is loosely based on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Elisa_Lam, which apparently fetishizes the murder of an innocent asian girl.
- One of the tombstones in a graveyard in the game says something like "In memory of Satoru Iwata", which made the previously triggered people reach out to Nintendo and demand that they force the devs to take out Iwata's name from their problematic game (funnily enough, Nintendo got back to the devs and were completely fine with the tribute).
- The game's characters are intentionally written as unlikable manbabies, reflecting the types of people who sit on Reddit, Tumblr and Twitter all day and play internet dectective and obsess over the fotm phenomena instead of growing the fuck up. People who see themselves in these characters are obviously upset by this.
- The game literally has a "red pill" collectible item.
TL;DR: the devs are literally /our/ guys.

Finally the reviews amd streams came in and it turned out leftists hate it too because its shit, the protag is an unlikable cunt who has sexist traits, it makes a joke about "ginger being the n word for redheads" or something, and it has some other references to stuff like a murdered schoolgirl they got annoyed over. So both sides hated it for different reasons and had fun shitting all over it as it bombed.

The director recently went on a podcast aligned to the right and had a bitchfit about vidya not being art and hating gamers along with some jabs at his leftist critics, which made resetera angry. So i think he really did intend for Alex to be unlikable, that said he isn't the only unlikable character in the game and that is far from the biggest issues with YIIK. a inabillity to commit to ideas in the writing, terrible pacing and gameplay speed also contribute to the game not exactly winning any GOTY awards.

Only good thing in the game is the ultra cute art direction for the female characters. Other than that, the guy completely missed the point of what a game is supposed to be - fun. Even if you're going the artistic route, it has to be fun to play, and you can't just call something "artistic" and expect it to be received well no matter what. Dialogue, gameplay, music, sound, it's all still really important.

If there's anything, this is amazing. I'm not even being sarcastic. The guy wanted to create an unlikable character and now he got a character that no one, not even people of his own spectrum, likes.
