What were the reactions like back when Sonic was given green eyes and longer limbs? Was it as bad as the reactions to the Boom designs?
What were the reactions like back when Sonic was given green eyes and longer limbs...
No, not at all
It wasn't received with much backlash back then, the distaste of his redesign was an unpopular opinion at most
It wasn't untill shadow and 06 as well as the evolution of 3D platformers that modern sonic began to be disliked.
No, because people aren't autistic like you are
Huh, that’s surprising. With all of these arguments between classic and modern era, I imagined people had lost their shit when they first seen Sonic’s modern design until they’ve (or at least, most of them) gotten over it. Doesn’t help that there were people who were actually upset that SEGA used Modern Sonic instead of Classic Sonic in Sonic 4
Reading comprehension, dipshit. Where did I even said I was one of those people who freaked out over Sonic’s Modern design?
Character designs changing was a given back then. Kids didn't give a shit until the internet told them it was the worst thing ever years later.
Nah, Sonic's rep was good back then, so people didn't fling shit needlessly. Shadow's game was panned, but it was just a spinoff so it wasn't a big deal; Sonic's 3d stuff didn't get real flack until 06 was released in its half-finished state.
>lol i should call him autistic to make him feel stupid lmao
If you’re in a such bad mood or something, you can always talk to someone. No need to bring people down just because you hate yourself and your shitty life.
Id assume he was making an inference about you
That image makes it work. That lolwacky tubular shit that artist did for the 2D art made it look like cancer. Much so you can clearly see what SEGA did by making the in game models LOOK like that DA tier shit, when at first the ingame Sonic models looked pretty good. 06 is basically the SA1 box art in 3D, and it shows why autism insuded.
If OP image was the design Sonic had to this day, no one would even bitch, NOR would we even have a "Classic Sonic" because that is classic but with green eyes. You CANNOT look at Modern like it's the same thing unless you claim the age card, which SEGA themselves fucked up with when Heroes happened.
I mean, I personally as a kid was pissed about it, but I don't think I ever saw anyone else get mad until later.
Like I said, the post didn’t even imply I was in on the hate towards Modern Sonic since I’ve never seen the reaction before then. Not sure how he’d even came to that conclusion.
They went full retard.
>06 is basically the SA1 box art in 3D
>That lolwacky tubular shit that artist did for the 2D art made it look like cancer.
I assume you mean this one?
See Tell me does THIS look anything like the SA1 model, especially next to OPs image? That's how Sonic became a joke. He looks retarded, while OP looks timeless even with the green eyes.
That's just Toei Sonic with more Animaniac style expressions.
Did he get them during the adventure series? i cant remember anymore. If it was around that time, the internet wasn’t quite as prevalent so spergs weren’t paid attention to.
Guess he must have took hesseposters too seriously.
why would people complain about an upgrade? classic sonic is ugly as fuck compared to adventure sonic.
>classic sonic is ugly as fuck
Retard.
>being a Sonic Fan was alright in the early 2000s
Yeah, he did. However, he started having longer limbs since Sonic 3D Blast
I’m not saying Hesse Sonic is bad, though. I kind of mistaken the other user was referring to that design and said it was lolwacky cancer BECAUSE of the hesseposter.
ah
That image was made after the Adventure redesigns were already in place. Japan didn't get 3D Blast until after Adventure had already been released.
>Kids didn't give a shit until the internet told them it was the worst thing ever years later.
Pretty much my thought about the sudden hate for another character’s current design in recent years. Before then, people didn’t have issues or even noticed this character’s minor changes until someone on Twitter or whatever made a big deal outta of it and gotten many people to despise the current design all of the sudden.
The reactions to Knuckles’ design in Boom was hilarious.
No, people hated Sonic's design from Heroes forward. People hated how shiny and squashed Heroes designs looked, then 06 and Riders made them look retarded, and it wasn't until Unleashed happened when people didn't mind Sonic's design as much, but some wasn't keen on the other characters like Amy and Knuckles. It wasn't until Boom cried out, but no, it wasn't just "muh Arin/IGN" tier boogiemen to start people hating Modern Sonic. His design was so inconsistent in the 2000s it deserves the hate. It reflects the aimlessness direction of the 3D era series to a Tee.
>You CANNOT look at Modern like it's the same thing unless you claim the age card, which SEGA themselves fucked up with when Heroes happened.
Even without the age card, people would see it as an evolution, regardless if they like the design or not.
kek, fuck off autistic Sonic Boom fag. Summer comes earlier and earlier it seems.
There was no modern era back then my dude.
>people would see it as an evolution, regardless if they like the design or not.
That's the sign of being a kid without standards. Like, the pure definition of this.
It's called brand recognition. You don't change what works just because "it's new". Good God do I hate this generation for that shit so bad. There's really only one reason SEGA gave for the redesign and that it was better for 3D models. It's clear why people still like the classic design then, for 2D design reasons. If it was such an evolution, it should have been perfect in SA1, like Sonic 1 was for classic.
No idea what you’re even trying to accomplish here by calling people autistic, but to come back here just to insult pretty much goes to show you really have nothing better to do in your life. Guess you’re that bored.
Weren’t people quick to already criticized and bashed on that game and its tone, though? Not sure if I can call it an evolution when the developers had quickly dropped this game’s concept to go back to the original.
>No, because people aren't autistic like you are
yeah lets just forget the overall reactions to the boom designs, fucktard
The OP image isn't good either
>"uh, what does tubular mean?"
adventure somehow looks even less like an actual hedgehog than classic
About. Half of the fanbase didn't like the redesign, half of them defended it. If it was abandoned after Adventure like the Boom design was, it wouldn't be accepted at all.
I know what it means, moron. I thought he was being ironic using that term since it can be pretty much used towards Hesse Sonic since his expression can come off as memey or “hip” for kids.
>t. Pic related
Do idiots here on Yea Forums felt the need to insult or be snarky towards people just for asking a question or making a small mistake? You autistic dumbass faggots can literally go kill yourselves and burn in hell.
>”lol I’ll mock an hour old post, because it’s not like he probably already cleared up what he meant by the image he posted lol”
Idiot
>I TRIED SO HARD AND GOT SO FAR
The whole Adventure series being so heavy in generational appeal over consistent design and at the time being good at it kinda blew away any qualms about the change in series direction, let alone GREAN EYEEES and noodle arms. Kinda like how way more people loved RE4's gameplay than they did hate the changes.
>t. “rofl I got nothing better to do, I’ll just keep coming back and insult him whenever he said something lol I’m a genius”
Yeah you have fun with that. Go back to complaining, trolling, and making retarded posts on other threads since Yea Forums is nothing but that.
I think what I would say to this is that people didn't really think much about this specific type of thing back then.
Sonic was kind of a love it or hate it character back then and the reactions were divided more along the lines of whether or not Sonic games should even still exist. He had been a popular character but mainly with younger players, hardcore "gamer" types thought of him as an embarrassing remnant from the mascot wars, out of place in the era of OoT, FFVII, and MGS.
It's not like today where people just take it for granted that there will always be another sequel, people expected change and didn't spend so much time arguing about whether this or that series was being ruined because the games had only been around like 7 years and not 28.
>t. Pic related
>the games had only been around like 7 years and not 28.
also, this means that there weren't any nostalgic adults around to complain about things like this.
People were actually pretty okay with the 06 designs pre-release. They were lanky, but they felt like a fine evolution of the Adventure era designs and there wasn't any negative press on the matter until after the game was seen as a trainwreck.
> out of place in the era of OoT, FFVII, and MGS.
So muh "Mature Gaymer" era. Yikes.
Glad those faggot edgies died out in the longrun. There comes a point going "DEATH TO ALL THAT APPOSE ME" and "lolrandom" can be fun, but a balance of the inbetween ends up aging best over time than not.
>People were actually pretty okay with the 06 designs pre-release.
You meant the SA2B kiddoes that never seen classic era Sonic in their lives. At most they say the Mega Genesis collection on Gamecube and went "haha Sonic looks wierd back then haha".
Kids shouldn't be the basis of options. Most adults like my brother hated me playing SA2 growing up from the classic games 1996, because me playing in the Chao Garden was "baby shit" to him. Personally I didn't care about it but at the same time, that proves Sonic changed fundamentally that with today's crowd, it proves going too far for a brand is just that, going too far.
The Sonic >"green eyes overreaction meme" is from the same pool of thought as the >"DnC Dante's Hair is different meme"
What I mean by that is it's an intentionally dismissive reduction of the complaints of the old fans about the new designs, by focusing in on one tiny aspect of their complaints. AKA Sonic's Green eyes, instead of the rest of the radical redesign from Classic to Modern.
This meme is repeated by faggots (usually helped by journalists and shills) trying to make the complainers look crazy and ridiculous by suggesting they only care about that one tiny aspect so much. And, in Sonic's case at least, it was pretty effective at convincing normies that old Sonic fans were just crazy. By the time DmC came out, the public at large was a lot less trusting of journalists, so the meme was a lot less effective.
Ironically, because of the focus that people who LIKE the redesign put on this minor aspect, it in turn becomes a far bigger symbolic issue. Creating a self fulfilling prophesy where that minor design element is suddenly a super controversial arguing point that nobody is willing to budge on.
Ultimately, we are never going to be able to completely avoid this kind of bad-faith argument reduction during internet fights. But simply being aware that this kind of argument is fundamentally bullshit is half the battle.
