Are the New Fire Emblem games really that bad?
Fire Emblem
I dunno i never played one before
Awakening is Good
Fates is Trash
Echoes is Good
Let the shitstorm ensue
well everybody says Awakening was pretty good
conquest was good
I second this. It's really... Weird ... Fates just doesn't scratch that itch.
They aren't really that different in quality from the rest of the series.
F(meaningful)pbp
Conquest is one of the best games in the series. Awakening is alright and Echoes is decent but boring. Revelations is pretty mediocre. Birthright straight up sucks ass through a straw and is one of the worst FE games.
in terms of gameplay? see and other factors are pretty different now though.
for one I feel like the series hasn't had great music since PoR, I loved the music in 4/7/8/9. Awakening was a real let down, Fates was alright. Haven't played Echoes
Hate the new Fire Emblem all you want, the soundtrack for Fire Emblem If was amazing
Why is she barefoot all the time?
I'm a diehard Kagafag and even I'll admit that conquest is damn good in the areas that matter. Everything else about Fatesawakening is fucking trash though.
I love how in Awakening and Fates the map field music dynamically changes tempo when you enter in and out of battle. Fates did it better since the transistion in and out of battle animations were very fast.
they leaned on that motif way too hard for my taste.
i think there are over 20 songs with the "yoouu are the oooocean's gray waaaaves" melody in them on the soundtrack.
Awakening has a half-decent story that tries to call back to the originals in general plot shape more than actual execution and lore. Maps are okay, with too much rout the enemy. The ability to grind can invalidate the game, but I prefer it over "lol you got three shitty level ups in a row? This unit is useless now", the traditional route.
As much as people will try to tell you that the characters are inconsistent tropey animu trash, that's literally fucking always been what FE characters are. Everyone can be boiled down to a trope or two at most, and that's okay, given the game has a fucking ensemble cast.
Fates overall has shit story, but it takes most of Awakening's gameplay concepts and refines them to a much sharper point. They only really shine in Conquest, where the maps improve dramatically over the other two entries. Coincidentally, Conquest is also better because you can't grind, but they didn't feel the need to make the game have one optimal strategy that also happens to require luck.
Remember what I said about Awakening's characters? Same here, except with slightly more depth to the core cast and a few units left by the wayside in cost.
Echoes is too much of a remake to truly count as a "New Fire Emblem" game, but most of its new elements were generally well-received.
So no, not *that* bad. Not amazing, and not universally liked, but not bad.
>"lol you got three shitty level ups in a row? This unit is useless now", the traditional route.
you can 0growth every game nublet
I didn't really care for it. The great tracks like End of All (where you fight Takumi) only played in small parts but the worthlessly generic sounding shit played all the fucking time. Every once in a while I'd stop a scene or stay in a battle I was about to finish because I liked the soundtrack and knew that the next thing would probably be boring as fuck again. The songs that were good were very good though. Just wish they actually played more.
I didn't remember much of Awakening's music at all. Echoes had pretty decent music but again, the bland stuff plays way too often while stuff like Twilight of the Gods and the seaport town theme are barely there.
> you can 0growth every game nublet
What did I just say about it being a bad thing for a game to have one strategy for each map and that's it? That's not a strategy game, that's an exercise in guessing-and-checking. It's first grade science homework on the scientific method.
>Awakening
Trash
>Fates Birthright
Awakening but better, but still Awakening, so trash
>Fates Revelations
lol
>Fates Conquest
Great, best one
>Echoes
Trash with pretty graphics
1 out of 5, yes, they're shit
better than the gba ones but still not really on par with the good ones
There good. A lot of botching comes from the old fans that hate that the series is more mainstream now.
Don't forget old fans bitching about the newer designs being "too anime"
*Bitching
Yeah they are a weird bunch. Without awakening their franchise would be dead but they hate the attention it brought
>A lot of botching comes from the old fans that hate that the series is more mainstream now
You're 100% right but they're still shit
I'm really sad that awakening replaced the pure kino that was the previous game's lunatic reverse difficulty with its really lazy lunatic+. If awakening had kept lunatic reverse it would be goat.
Conquest and Echoes were among the best 3 games in the series.
I have high hopes for three houses, but I know I'll be disappointed.
Hardly. Awakening is still very enjoyable even if it's less strategically heavy.
Fates did updated gameplay a lot even if it's a mess in Revelations and bland in Birthright. Conquest is extremely good excluding the plot.
Wish they had changed literally every map in echoes. Absolutely loved the english VA and writing, but jesus fuck i hated playing the game especially nuibabas map. Also not knowing to promote early unlike almost every other game completely fucks you over at around berkuts final map
Fe has always been boring garbage. the only thing that draws people in now is the waifus
>worthlessly generic sounding shit played all the fucking time
Eh, I don't dislike the generic songs.
youtube.com
youtube.com

My only problem is that hoshido songs outside of Alight are very boring.
Corrin or Azura? At least Azura is a dancer so it somewhat makes sense, but Corrin is goddamn soldier and when she's fighting in a the fucking ice peaks and volcanoes it don't make no sense.
YOU ARE THE OCEANS GRAY WAVES
The main theme and the battle/map themes are really good, everything else is shit
There were only three variants of the same song that had that. You may have hated and heard it more than you think, however, as its said every time you restored someone's turn.
Fire Emblem was hardly ever good.
The plots are absolute shit, but that's nothing new for the series. The main characters are absolutely 1 dimensional and just act like a bunch a bitches the whole ride through. Fates coming from Awakening really cranks up the fetish fuel and fanservice which can sour experience, but the average anons might not have a prob with it. If you're going to play Fates only do Conquest, don't fuck with Birthright or Revelations when there variably worse in map design in comparison. Besides Corrin and the main families, I'd say the units are endearing enough to follow, and the music and sound are peak I'd say in Conquest. I liked it in the end, but I made the mistake of playing through birthright and 80 percent of revelations which are just not good.
Awakening was really fun
Awakening is too damn easy.
Corrin is a dragon so it makes sense for the sake of transformations. Azura has no point, agreed.
I suppose, but they just don't tend to grab me like a regular battle theme for say, Etrian Odyssey would. They bring little to the battle, unlike End of All, which really brings home how fucking unreal the situation is. The castle is falling apart, there's an evil possessed body firing waves of power through the castle at you, it's a dramatic shift, and it's fucking awesome. In a less impactful-to-gameplay case, the sad music for when one of them dies actually brings more emotion to the scene, which usually wouldn't elicit any from me otherwise (e.g. Ryouma's death, which I felt absolutely nothing for). It just feels like they didn't try on these, and as a result, the common nature of the songs in gameplay sucks.
For Echoes with the same issue, it's less because of the generic music itself, and more because you fight more small battles than any game in the series (dungeons), so the dungeon battle music becomes super repetitive over the course of a longer one. Meanwhile Twilight of the Gods makes what would be an average final boss into one of my favorites in the series, the music is that damn good. But it only plays there, so it's a shame. I suppose that adds impact but EO at least has amazing encounter themes for their dungeon battles.
fates is the only one i dont have but i enjoyed the others a lot despite accepting their shortcomings
Nigga, this is a strategy game. The games are meant to make you feel calm on the map as you strategize. Nothing like the tense endurance tests that battles in Etrian Odyssey games can be.
Another thing is that one of the reasons why final boss and special cutscene songs feel so special is because they're so exclusive.
