I'm a scavenger, a crafter AND a builder, and Terraria offered all three. I could explore a new world every time I started another playthrough, I could craft and create my own armor and weapons with little restriction, and I could build entire landscapes to my choosing. Also, the difficulty is at a level I enjoy. The combat actually has meat to it, and doesn't endlessly let you cheese bosses. For one, BOTW really messed up with infinite healing during fights. With Terraria, you're constantly dealing with potion cooldown and full stomach debuffs, so you have to choose carefully when you heal.

It's too easy and lacks memorable moments, all of the quests are garbage, climbing walls is cool but opposite of fun and fighting the same enemies in every part of the map is boring

I enjoyed it, I wish there were many more titles that are just as enjoyable on the switch. I've been playing my 3DS over the switch for little while. I've bought a bunch of games but really on 3 I was really able to get into

There's been criticism over the lack of proper dungeons and weapon durability. Also the way they give you all the abilities on the tutorial "island" instead of getting access to them later on is something people have criticised

BOTW was different from previous zelda games but not in a good way. When designing it, the core idea was "how do we make something that reviewers will love that, at the same time, requires almost no effort to create, and can be rehashed in the future?"
