Las Venturas
Los Santos easily, and that wasn't even with the PS2's color filter. So much detail, so much atmosphere, so many activities. Countryside was alright, but by the time you reached San Fierro it was pretty clear that the developers lost their drive, and so did you.
>lost their drive, and so did you
I loved all the cities when I first played it
San Andreas Stories on Switch when
...
Pic related.
i wanna replay gta san andreas just to go to the gay village in san fierro and shoot the faggots out with a minigun
I fixed it so it'll make more sense geographically
How? Especially Las Venturas was fucking empty and soulless, and the missions only boiled down to "go to place and kill increasing number of NPCs" at that point.
Huh, it's just like Hoenn.
Los Santos definitely. But in the final part it was shit
Imagine being this autistic.
Liberty.
I remember being stuck in the fucking forest and desert and having to walk back to a road. Only to find 0 cars anywhere. I mean it was fun at times but holy shit. The effort was astounding. Makes me realize how real immersive GTA SA was back then. And also how if you ran up debt in all the Casinos as soon as you entered the strip the Cartel hunted you down in sentinels and used Aka 47s.
almost 15 years and we steel don't know how the fuck Brian died
How it should be for gta 6.
Ever heard of a noodle incident?
>TFW when you love San fierro cause it's fun to jump around the city in fast cars but everyone else hates it for being the middle child
I don't have to, i am
I liked San Fierro purely for having a garage with the car dealership and tuning garage 200 feet down the road. Also it was fun jumping the hills with the NRG.
SF was comfy as hell
>bring TVTropes garbage here
You ruined it in less than 5 seconds. Great Job.
>tfw when autism and really like the bridges in gta.
Is that when you're at Gamestop and the spaghetti in your pockets starts spilling out?
I liked the bridges for flying under, or even for flying through in the direction of traffic. Got really good at flying the Hydra upside down.
To be honest, I actually felt like Los Santos had a lot of missed opportunities. I mean, it's based off of Los Angeles, the second biggest city in America. You could make a whole game that takes place in Los Santos. But Los Santos gets very little depth relative to the city it's based off of. For example, Hollywood could easily make up a quarter of a hypothetical Los Santos game, but in SA, all it is is a sign and a mansion.
Don't get me wrong, it still works, but I felt like they could have made Los Santos more expansive.
reminder that the johnson brothers have at least two different fathers
Just throwing this out there but why did they cut so much good shit in GTA V? I know more immersion n shit. But fuck doing the truck and train jobs was the shit man.
I think the bridges were designed so that the Hydra could just barely fly under.
They didn't cut anything you retard.
GTA V had enough stuff for being a PS3 game
they cut them from IV first because they wanted it to be more realistic
san fierro while raining was so comfy
Well, it did feel noticably dumbed down compared to GTA IV in order to accommodate the larger map. Simpler physics, simpler damage models, simpler AI, simpler scripting. It wasn't all forward and innovative.
how did gta san andreas manage to have so much over the top shit while not looking as silly as saints row 2 or even gta v?
maybe ps2 graphics were so far from reality that unrealistic things don't look strange
So I can drive the train in GTA V. And I can fly the Boeing Airplanes in single player now? And not on story mission but if I'm bored? Weird do they still do vigilante in GTA V as well? Was there an update I missed?
based and saintspilled
but it had better graphics and performance on the same console, also I don't think the scripting was simpler in gta v
and btw the "cinematic" missions in gta v were actually a breath of fresh air for the series since the monotony of gta iv missions was a common complaint
SF for the fastest bike spawn, minigun spawn and landscape filled with ramps you can jump on.
Saints row 2>Gta 4
>So I can drive the train in GTA V
Theres a mission where you can. Don't know why you'd want to anyway. Don't only autistic people really like trains?
>And I can fly the Boeing Airplanes in single player now?
Yes you can. And they're much bigger than the ones in Shit Andreas.
>Weird do they still do vigilante in GTA V as well?
Have you tried LSPD:FR?
Except for having one of the worst PC ports of all time, and frankly being a less enjoyable game.
gta sa isn't gta v beta
those features weren't cut because they weren't there in the first place
I think the movement perfectly sums up how I feel about 3D and HD, 3D movement may be kind of stiff but it's still quick and snappy while HD tried to be realistic so it just feels like you're trudging through mud. It's pretty much the same for the rest of the games where SA may not be perfect but all the content is there while V fell for the muh realism meme so instead of being able to hop into a cop car to do some vigilante missions or fly a jetpack through the sky you just have boring shit like yoga and towing.
shoreside vale feels so unfinished
>Except for having one of the worst PC ports of all time, and frankly being a less enjoyable game.
>Implying you can have fun in Grand Shit Auto IV
>V fell for the muh realism meme
it actually tried to depart from the realism meme IV fully embraced
I always did brotherhood and samedi missions first before going after the ronin
why's CJ drinking the can upside-down
SR2's pc port was fucking diamond compared to to the turd of gta 4's
San Fierro was comfy as fuck
Stilwater had so many great interiors
>Airport Terminal
>Caverns
>Island Nuclear Plant
>Island Prison
>Museum
>Underground Mall
>University
plus all your safehouses
Liberty City, San Andreas is best GTA game but the atmosphere of GTA3 especially during foggy or rainy weather is just far more wholesome.
I had tons of fun in GTA IV, so clearly it's not the game that's the problem, it's the player.
what the fuck user
at least GTA4 only needed a beast machine. if you had a machine that was too powerful for saints row 2, it would shit itself.
That's not even a contest.
The real questions are
>SR2 vs. San Andreas
>SR3 vs. GTA IV
It really isn't
GTA IV is playable at 60+ FPS if you adjust the draw distance
SR2 doesn't seem to be playable without wildly fluctuating FPS
>Theres a mission where you can.
Seems a waste of a train.
>Yes you can. And they're much bigger than the ones in Shit Andreas.
Finally I can reenact 9/11
>Have you tried LSPD:FR?
I'm guessing a mod for PC?
>gta sa isn't gta v beta
You figure that out all by yourself. Good for you.
niggers are dumb like that
Saints row 3 is fun for a week, then it gets old.
>tfw when get more enjoyment out of the music of gta then actually playing the game
>made spreadsheet of gta4 dj comments/banter, weather/news cuts, songs and going to make .. ah whos kidding who, it's been a fucking decade since gta4 release
i have no idea what im doing with life
It didn't took itself so seriously.
This. You can literally install SR2 on a new high end computer and only get 45 fps, or get worse fps on low settings than on high settings. NOTHING about the performance of that game on the PC made any sense whatsoever.
>Samedi>Ronin>Brotherhood
>Weak as piss drug ring>Organized but deeply floored mafia>Tough and brutal street gang, comparable to the Saints directly
This is the best order. Prove me wrong.
>Muh 30 fps is bad
can we just burn fpsfags at the stake?
Bayside
You're talking shit. GTA4 runs at 60fps maxed out on my 1060/7700k. It doesn't crash, everything works.
Saints Row 2 on the other hand, does NOT work. At all. Not with Powertools, not with Gentlemen of the Row, not with the Steam version, the GOG version, not with useplatformclock true, not with useplatformclock false, not with vsync, not without vsync, not with framelimiter, not without framelimiter, not with any, ANY possible combination of the above.
Saints Row 2's PC port is absolute DOGSHIT.
More like a day that shit takes like 2 days tops to complete
home
It fucking is, try to play GTA3 on 30 and then 60fps, 30 is choppy as fuck.
>Saints row 3 is fun for a week, then it gets old.
Dude this is what I'm worried about. Like it seems they just added in way to much shit in SR3 for it to be actually fun like SR2. And honestly I blame the way they did Upgrades on the entire thing. Instead of earn you add to buy.
yes but at the same time it didn't fall in the ironic-fourth wall breaking territory and all that shit
>Literally playing gta 3 as of now on my shit pc at 30fps, and its fucking glorious.
at least it was before the plane glitched everything up
Anyone else remember spending countless hours discussing mysteries like ghost cars, UFOs or Big Foot on GTA forums?
just completed GTASA at 30fps (frame limiter on) and it was absolutely fantastic.
I've been replaying San Andreas over the past few days. San Fierro is still by far the best and comfiest city, and certainly miles more visually interesting than Los Santos. I also love how car-centric it is.
I'll never not be baffled they designed V entirely around Los Santos and the gimped countryside.
>Brotherhood (for zombie Carlos)>Samedi (For MR Sunshine)>Ronin (For Johnny Gat)
I will admit if you do majority of the activities before story who gave a fuck you had all the top grade shit.
LS for sure and it was the most 'soulful' too. SF was decent with the straightaways, some hills, dealership and autobody shop right next to the spawn. LV was the worst for sure with an airport nearly in the middle of the city.
I remember spending time discussing that irl
I didn't have no internet so a friend of mine told me about all that shit it was fucking haunting since I couldn't go find out more myself
If you're going to San Fierroooooo
what did they mean by this?
>tfw when the forest still scares me in gta sa.
You are a scholar and also my nigga
Los Santos is kino
Say what you will about SR2 but at least it had a good, well paced sense of progression.
Onions Row 3 is focused on style over substance and is a far more shallow game. Constantly trying to give you pumps of dopamine but ultimately losing its edge like 5 hours in. Thats why most people say its fun for the first couple of missions
Dumb zoomers don't know about GTA's frame limiter, do they?
How is SAMP these days?
older GTA games literally break if you play them above 30fps.
The further away your CPU clock speed was from the XBOX it was designed for, the worse it would run.
It shouldn't even be possible to botch things that badly.
I think the main issue is that most of the missions are dogshit. A few of them are fun, but they're separated by completely unapologetic make-work, where you drive to a place and do a side activity for a few minutes.
It's like the fucking dancing missions from San Andreas, except over and over again.
It has some other issues, but I think those would have been forgivable if the missions and the story were more interesting.
this
can't be shittier than it was 10 years ago
at least people have better internet now
I can understand the more orange sunset, but do people seriously prefer playing with a blur filter?
San Fierro was fun for driving the PCJ-900. You can catch air going up the surface streets.
>juggle between brotherhood and samedi until carlos dies, then go hard on maero's gang
>finish off samedi and consolidate your side of the city
>now fuck up the ronin and push 'em back to japan without worrying about other gangs
it was amazing ten years ago. now the playerbase is almost exclusively third worlders playing on megaservers.
made the polygons less rough, at least on a crt tv
SAMP was comfy
youtube.com
>SR2 but at least it had a good, well paced sense of progression.
Dude SR2 till I die. But SR3 fucking story choices, even shitter activities and again Upgrades are what killed it. SR2 I can duel wield and not give a fuck. SR3 I have to buy that shit. And again activities in SR2 were and always fucking amazing. I always played the zombie TV game as the first thing to do.
soul vs soulless
SF was the shit
I think LS in SA was probably the worst of the three cities. There's not much to do there, apart from visit your home, go to the gym, eat Cluckin' Bell. San Fierro has the driving school, and the airport is pretty close to your safe house / garage thing, so you can go and steal planes pretty easily. And Las Venturas has the casinos, which are awesome for making money. So yeah I think LS was the most disappointing of the three cities. If I had to pick a favourite it would probably be SF, from a feel point of view, but honestly SF and LV are probably equally as good.
Yeah I agree with this. LS in V is awesome though, they really fleshed it out. The Hollywood (well, Vinewood) area really feels like the real Beverley Hills, with all the swanky shops just below the hills, and then all the swanky houses on all those twisty roads located on the hill itself.
soul vs soulless
>where you drive to a place and do a side activity for a few minutes.
Yeah man I agree. When they combined activities with the main story. That just killed it. If they kept them separate it could of had a chance.
Even then it doesn't have miscellaneous shit like stadium events and horse betting, I really wish they just stuck to a smaller LS instead of trying to autistically recreate LA while having nothing in it.
Can we all agree Los Santos in GTAV is better than Los Santos in San Andreas?
If you still have to make money by the time you reach Las Venturas you've done something wrong. I don't think I've ever done any of the gambling whatsoever.
Also Los Santos had turf wards and burglaries and the lowrider shop and the monster truck arena, and it just felt like more attention went into mapping it because it's the place where you would spend the first few hours of the game.
you can easily disable the blur and the radiosity
Looking at it now I really wish the filters hadn't been completely bonked on the PC port. It looks so much more atmospheric with the color filter and even with the heat blur.
I agree with this guy: Simpler physics? GTA IV had that noticeable rag doll effect, but it was almost too much - too jarring. People would turn into rag dolls at the slightest touch, which isn't how people react in real life. As for the driving physics, it's certainly easier to handle in V, but I think that's a good thing. Cars are much more enjoyable to drive, and less slow, in V. Simpler AI? I never noticed this at all. AI in V seemed smart to me, I never really thought about it at all. Simpler scripting? I don't know what this is even meant to mean.
One thing that I did initially question in V was the ability to roll over your car just with your thumb stick. Obviously it's not realistic, and I thought it was surprising, given that IV and V were otherwise pursuing realism. But actually I think it's a very good change in V. Especially if you modify your car, which obviously is possible in V, then you don't want your car to be irretrievably stuck on its roof, as would happen in IV. So from a gameplay perspective I think it was a very good thing to be able to flip your car back over in V. I guess if you want to make it more realistic, they could make it so that you have to phone a tow truck to have your car flipped back over. But honestly I think it's fine as it is, from a gameplay perspective.
No, LS in V is mostly big motorways and the ghetto parts are too small.
>break out of prison
>get harassed by Brotherhood thug at strip club
>do nothing about it until near the very end
>keep Maero waiting for the meetup until the very end
doesn't make sense to me
Yeah absolutely. It's way more fleshed out in V. Which makes sense, since it's the only major city in V. But yeah I think LS is perhaps the most disappointing city in SA. It might capture the essence of Compton / South Central LA, but I think they probably didn't capture the Hollywood thing enough. They did so much better in V, where the Vinewood hills area feels a lot like Beverely Hills in real life.
If you don't think GTA 6 will be in Vice City you're delusional.
The best part of that is how you can pretty much go to any of SR2's big interior areas whenever you want, and they're always open to explore or break into. Later games use areas like those pretty much for story missions and that's it.
>but I think that's a good thing
Casual retard. Nearly every car feels the same in GTA V, supercars can climb up the side of a mountain, everything corners on a dime. Also the damage model has become a fucking joke. I've fucking loved GTA IV, and the GTA V driving looks so fucking disappointing just from videos that I'VE NEVER EVEN TRIED OUT THAT PILE OF SHIT GAME. TO THIS DAY I HAVEN'T PLAYED GTA V, THAT'S HOW MIND-NUMBING THE DRIVING LOOKS.
I probably didn't NEED to make money in LV. I just liked the fact that I could save the game just outside the casino, then bet all my money on roulette, and save again if I won, or load from save if I lost. Doing this meant I could build up tons and tons of cash. I probably didn't NEED it but it meant I could customise every car I ever had, and buy basically infinite ammo, without having to worry about cash.
>btw the "cinematic" missions in gta v were actually a breath of fresh
I hated them so much to the point where GTAV is the only mainline GTA game I've never been able to finish.
Even though IV killed the series I still managed to get through it at least.
>that comfy foresty hill near it
I loved that place
Also:
>turf wars
Yeah I did a bit of that, it was alright, a bit of a grind though, but sort of fun sometimes I guess.
>burglaries
Don't think I did any of that apart from the mission where you do it.
>lowrider shop
LV has a car mod garage as well. Maybe SF does too but I can't remember.
Ronin always felt right to do last considering the fact that you're trying to expand your territory but you're right in the middle of two other gangs already
gta.fandom.com
comfy as fuck.
>ad hominem in the first sentence
Ignored.
But not a lowrider shop, and lowriders were objectively the most fun to customize.
Bayside
Graphically? Yeah, sure. Unfortunately there's fucking nothing to do in it, it's like True Crime: Streets of LA where you have a recreation of LA with nothing in it.
Not him, but GTA has always been casual as fuck. And while GTAV is shit beyond redemption, but I do applaud them for at least trying to make it a bit more arcadey and gameplay oriented. I don't play GTA to have realistic driving mechanics or slow paced combat. I play it so I can ramp of buildings and do ridiculous shit.
>complaining about a game he's never played
get a load of this guy
Casual retard.
The reason the hill cuts off so suddenly to the ocean is because it's supposed to connect to the mainland
The one in LV allowed you to add NOS and stuff, and that's all I cared about. I didn't care about the hydraulic stuff on the lowriders personally, it didn't add to performance, and also if I remember correctly, the hydraulic controls were on the right thumbstick that was usually used for camera control, right? So if your car had hydraulics then you couldn't control the camera. Which is very annoying in my view.
>doesn't have an argument
Lmao.
flying through the hilly streets of san fierro in a convertible savanna while young turks is blasting is one of the most kino moments from my childhood. sf for sure
Vice.
No. Los Santos works great because it has that specific LA Riots setting going. In GTAV it's just generic modern day LA. I.E, the single most disgusting city on earth.
Why are GTA IV fans always so autistic?
This. Why is it that Rockstar hasn't expanded into doing more interiors for GTA games?
It's a shame the map is about the size of a postage stamp.
Because they're contrarian attention-seekers. Best to ignore them.
>console problems
unironically the worst map of the PS2 games
>40% empty space
>Nearly every car feels the same in GTA V,
>I'VE NEVER EVEN TRIED OUT THAT PILE OF SHIT GAME
Big think
>tvtropes
get the fuck out
Imagine
You could tell they'd forgotten about the second island as well.
Little Havana and Little Haiti are SHIT.
It's a Calvin and Hobbes reference you uncultured pleb.
cringe
>forgotten
The game was shit out in a year
this some GTA6 bullshit
That's what I meant.
nigga I know it's a Calvin and Hobbes reference, it's also a tvtropes thing, and more likely than not, I'd assume someones referencing that site due to how much the autism from there overlaps here
That's the point.
The aesthetics and atmosphere of the game were fluffed up so much it was easy to look past how shallow the map was. Aside from North Point Mall and the Malibu club, and some areas on the beach.
Doesn't print money like GTAO
It's bad if you can tell it from videos alone. Every single car handles at least sort of well and goes at least someone fast. It's impossible to completely fail at driving in GTA V. In other words it's dumbed down and numbed down.
>GBA
huh
>a GTA game where you get to play Florida Man
I want it.
To be fair Vice City was a glorified GTA 3 total conversion, and came out only a year later. Nowadays you can't even begin to imagine Rockstar releasing two games in two successive years.
Literally when has it ever been possible to fail at driving in the GTA games?
What about Alabama man?
youtube.com
It is kinda funny how the apex of the series came from two rushed out cash grab sequels.
>Carlos
And such cashgrabs they revisited the cities 5 years later.
>my nigga.
Today, they wouldn't do it. But they could do it the way they originally intended when GTA 3 was in development. Not sure how I'd feel if GTA 3 was released today and then in a year or so, a Vice City DLC was released.
San Andreas sold the vast majority of its copies on console. In 2009, 21.5m copies of SA had been sold, with 17.33m on the PS2 alone (so, nearly all of them). Apparently according to Kotaku in 2011, 27.5m copies had been sold by that point (the increase is probably mostly PC sales, since the mobile port didn't come out until 2013), but that still means that the vast majority of sales were console sales.
en.wikipedia.org
Are you referring to 3+VC or VC+SA?
>apex of the series
That's objectively wrong though, both from a critical perspective and a sales perspective. GTA IV and V are the the highest-rated critically (IV is ever-so-slightly higher rated on Metacritic, but V is ever-so-slightly higher rated on GameRankings.com), and GTA V is the best-selling GTA game by a significant margin. GTA V sold 100 million copies, which is over three times as many copies (nearly four times as many) as the next-best-selling GTA game, which is San Andreas on 27.5 million copies.
I know you like looking back on your childhood fondly, but that doesn't mean those games were the "apex of the series". Both from a critical and a sales perspective, they objectively weren't.
Yeah well, some of us played San Andreas on the PC and got to enjoy mods or playing around in handling files and other things.
>le sales numbers!!!
Both got to that point because of the games before them, because everyone who played those games enjoyed them and it spread to the mainstream that GTA was good
>muh scores
>muh sales
If you want to look at them from a pure gameplay perspective, GTA 3 and Vice City still weren't the so-called "apex" of the series. It would be San Andreas, or arguably GTA IV.
i remember fucking with my brother by taking a faraway pic of a fence post near mt chiliad and claiming it was bigfoot
good times
It's not the most common way to have played the game though. Most people played it on console.

The Sharmoota Job
You can dislike objective fact all you want but it won't make the facts go away.
Like I said in this post - - IV and V are the apex from a critical perspective, and V is the apex from a sales perspective.
So personally I'd probably argue V is the apex. It has sold over three times as many copies as the next-best-selling GTA game (SA), and its critical scores are right up there with IV's (IV is slightly higher on Metacritic, but Xbox One's version of V is the highest rated game of all time on GameRankings.com).
trash
>So personally I'd probably argue V is the apex.
Nice bait.
>and GTA V is the best-selling GTA game by a significant margin
Thanks to the garbage online and the zoomers and their garbage taste.

whoa user, get out of here with those edgy and controversial opinions!
when you look at the details of that mission, you start to realize why it was cut in the first place
and that's a good thing
CJ is black not a nigger.
I assume you mean the homoshit jokes but a clown-themed heist would have been kino and a much better impetus for the second Madrazo arc than what we actually got
From a sales perspective it objectively is, there is no question. It sold over three times as many copies as the next-best-selling GTA game. From a critical perspective, it is basically tied with GTA IV. Like I said, IV pips it on Metacritic, but V pips IV on GameRankings.com. Since they are basically inseparable in critical scores, and since V's commercial performance was so overwhelmingly strong, I think it is absolutely plausible to say that V is the apex of the series. From a commercial perspective, it unambiguously is.
>thanks to online
I think you're getting confused - I'm referring to number of sales, NOT revenue. We're not talking about the amount of money GTA Online is making in micro-transactions. That is irrelevant to the number of sales of the game, which is still over three times as high as the sales of any other GTA game. It is certainly possible that the giant leap in GTA V's multiplayer from the previous games has helped drive unit sales, though.
Is it worth playing in 4K? How's the scaling

A fucking shame they didn't come to PC.

I'm not a Sony player, the only Sony console I've ever owned is a PSP. Stay butthurt though, it's hilarious.
>zoomer fallacious arguments
Not the guy you replied to but that's awesome, I had to google that about Valentino Rossi - didn't know he has "WLF" on hats. And apparently he uses a "W" to stand for the two Vs in "ViVa" because if he were to spell it "VLF" then he could get punished for an acronym of an explicit expression.
Rossi is awesome. I would love it if he won another title but he probably won't ever again. I'll still hope though.
>gets completely buttmad about objective facts
Holy fucking Christ this is priceless.
>can't even name a fallacy that he thinks I've committed
Lmao. I'm sorry that objective facts trigger you so much.
Why do all the characters look cellshaded
As someone who lives in Vegas, it always bothered me that the WELCOME TO LAS VENTURAS sign is way up in the north and no where near the strip. It's supposed to be the first thing you see coming from LA before you hit the iconic strip.
well using W for "viva" is extremely common in italy, nobody would ever spell it VLF anyway
we also use it upside down btw, to mean "down with" like in pic it's down with school
>tfw driving a purple Banshee around Staunton Island while it’s raining when suddenly you hear TIMECODE STEP INSIDE THE ZONE
youtu.be
Well in San Andreas players generally won't approach Las Venturas for the first time from Los Santos.
At least they won't if they're following the story.
Tbdesu I just plowed through the desert when Woozie called. Not much point in taking road.
How the actual fuck did they go from making a masterpiece like Stilwater to making the piece of shit that is Steelport?

Based III bro
nobody ever called it that, but I agree
Nice try kid, This is what your map looks like.
I literally was thinking this the other day, since the Shitch can't into HD gtas, they should do a 3D era one.
Not even. That has the Red County towns. All that V's map has is Sandy Shores and Paleto Bay.
Definitely, I don't even own a switch, But the 3D era needs to make a comeback, One of the creators said in a interview years ago about IV that the 3D era isn't over and that they can always go back, If they wanted to.
They could make the graphics more like the art style, Cell shade it like this vid youtube.com
