...was it actually bad, or was Yea Forums just exaggerating?
Now that the dust has settled
It's so good it's bad
i refuse to play a game where the main character is a literal basedboy
pirate it and find out yourself
yiikes
and apparently no one else does either because this game sold like ASS
It's really bad.
>game has minigames in combat
>minigames can stop working, forcing a reset
youtube.com
it's actually bad. I don't mind talking about it though. Here's some supporting evidence
If you pirate it use game engine to crank up the speed to 200% at least since anything battle related is a fucking slog.
>Minigames for EVERY fucking basic attack
Im surprised people played it
> random battles have a 15 second loading screen
this might be the most reddit game of all time. impressive.
The music in this game alone is enough to make it reek of shit
It made it's money back week one.
just from that cropped screenshot I can tell its bad
I mostly like the art style but how technically inept do you have to be to have these loading times to load what must be a grand total of a 1MB of assets?
It was pretty bad but Yea Forums was still exaggerating. Visually and narratively it had some neat ideas but it was overwritten and pretentious. And the combat was so thoroughly unfun that the only way to fix it would have been to make it skippable entirely.
>My mistake was thinking that video games are art: I wanted to make this game about a guy who's a piece of shit unlikable character who by the end of the game has to transform. But too many gamers when they look at this-when they play a game-they're so used to having to identify with the character, that if they play a game where the main character's unlikable or has to do some bad stuff, they immediately get triggered by it. So the thing is, games aren't art; they're toys for children and it's considered in bad form to talk about anything meaningful or thought provoking.
it's bad but not bad enough to be good
>I mostly like the art style
How? It looks like most of it is just placeholders and the animations are jittery.
that's not exactly hard to do when you spent $10 making it
>Makes MC a self insert
>Everyone hates the MC
>H-he was meant to be unlikable, i thought video games where art g-guys
It does some interesting stuff in theory, but has terrible issues with speed and pacing (especially when the characters get distracted by irrlevant shit and drone on about it for too long and too often), as well as dropping the Sammy plot unless you go for the secret ending. And you know, not having a final boss due YOU GOTTA PULL THE PLUG OR HAVE HOPELESS BOSS FIGHT.
Hmm, let's see
>shit soundtrack
>uninteresting story
>characters all written like they're 14 except they're in their mid-20s
>all the characters are self-inserts of the devs
>EXCEPT the black characters, because they couldn't find anyone smart & black enough to work on the game
>said fictional blacks lecture the white main character about his whiteness for basically no reason whatsoever
Yeah it's shit
It's probably loading all the stupid minigames
>basedboy the game
"Sophomoric" would be too generous. The writing is grade school, and the quality of the product a step below that. There's no charm, no wit, and certainly no fun to be had here. It's shit, irredeemable in every conceivable way.
in games you need a hook, something to keep people playing. a likeable character could be such a hook. sometimes, like TWEWY, the good gameplay is that hook. YIIKes has no hook, it's all trash, and even if it "gets good"(read: from total trash becomes mediocre trash) fifty hours in, no-one's gonna sit through those fifty hours because there is no hook.
wtf lmao
It's not really that bad but its not good either
holly shit, it took 10 full seconds just for the battle to start. wtf
I'd argue that the character supposed to be the hook is Sammy since she was pretty likable and one of the first hipster rants Alex has is about her pussy and his whole motivation for like half the game until Essentia fuckery is finding her, in spite of just being in the first dungeon.
And it worked, i have read anons here who kept playing /watching because they liked the mystery of her disappearance and had that creepypasta plot being showed to the side and dropped as a critique.
There were a lot of plot threads the game could have done something interesting with. It just had a habit of dropping most of them for something different entirely once it got bored of them. Kind of its main problem. Nothing feels like they thought it through to the end.
>Tip: Video games are not a waste of time
>Battle takes 16 seconds to load
NO ONLY SHEER VOLUME OF SALES COUNTS EXCEPT FOR SONY AND EPIC STORE EXCLUSIVES AND ALSO ANYTHING MADE BY A MAJOR DEV THAT ISN'T NINTENDO
>based
any game where in forced to look like the embodiment of onions is an avoid
I feel genuinly sorry for anyone whos choices in life lead them to look like that
short hair, beard, thick rimmed glasses and the beta male smile are the components for someone who has no soul or humanity left
yes and yes
this sounds fucking awful
>get triggered by unlikeable main character
the fuck is he on about
Haseo is a good example of character development, he was an unlikeable piece of shit in Vol. 1 but you can bit by bit see him change
>if games are art then how can people think my game is bad, hmmmm triggered much?
He was unlikable and awesome. No one likes unlikable and pathetic.
It's pretty boring, but then again, so was Earthbound.
>that music
>random encounter can take several minutes to beat
pathetic
Both
I like it
Wtf is up with this by the way? I get that its like that elevator girl, but what is the actual plot of yiik?
This is so bad it makes me think less of Earthbound for inspiring it.
youtu.be
why is the frame rate so bad?
I've avoided everything about this game until now, and I'm glad. Jesus fuck, I couldn't imagine it'd look so shitty.
Beats me. A pretentious asshole looks for a missing girl, finds a robot lady who tells him the world is gonna end, gets pulled into a world where lost souls go after a Meteor that is implied to represent the negative parts of his personality destroys the earth, confronts the negative parts of his personality and saves the world or something. Also, there's a secret ending but, like, don't even ask me what that's all about.
why are there 6 threads about this piece of shit?
You should, since that game sucks.
Every millennial on earth should be killed.
Secret Ending is basically fucking off to try and find Sammy (the missing girl) instead of going to fight the meteor during world ending part.
youtube.com
Because the creator inserted his foot into his mouth and said some prime GAMER RISE UP inducing material about how his game is TOO DEEP.
your picture is a perfect example if YIIK was just a persona clone in a Brazilian Favela it would have been much more interesting than what it is currently. well that and multiple other flaws with the title
>This music
Ah yes
Art
It was actually bad. Lemonade.
literally yes
even if the writing wasn't fucking atrocious, the gameplay is just awful and irredeemable
It was worse then how Yea Forums exaggerated it. people here only make fun of certain moments, but if you take the time to look up more then 30 minutes of a normal playthrough you'll understand why its such a shitty mess.
>Secret Ending is basically fucking off to try and find Sammy (the missing girl) instead of going to fight the meteor during world ending part.
>youtube.com
Yes, I've seen it, I just don't get what it's going for thematically.
Considering it is unvoiced im pretty sure it was added later in development as damage control when he realized that people would be pissed that what he had advertised the game as (Looking for Sammy) was dropped in the main plot and doesn't really have a theme.
vella WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON
so its just a shitty jrpg with some questionable hipster aesthetics?
It's an artistic choice, but then the director said games are not art so it's shit programming
