Because that's what it's supposed to do. Remember me is actually unsafe to do, as it saves the authentication files on your harddrive and if you have an infected PC, then your mobile authenticator can't save you as those files will legitimize the attacker until you force a logout. The session also never expires if you have remember me set. A person who's listening to your network (ie. campus or mobile hotspot), can appropriate it and misuse your account without requiring authentication.
