What went wrong?
What went wrong?
Overwatch was made and then turned into e-sports
>class based team shooter
>e-sports
Pick ONE
It was shit earlier with all the goats but it's getting a bit better. I tune out the top teams (NYXL and Vancouver) because they always do goats.
I just watch it, I don't even play the game. I bet this is how sports fans feel, it's fun.
But I think blizz put too much money in it and they are going to regret it.
shooter for people bad at shooting, once the novelty ended the locustes moved to the new fad
Fun fact, if you combined all the other nationalities found among the Overwatch League rosters, you still won't be near the total number of Koreans in the League.
honestly i can't understand the strategy or meta. i also don't know what im watching with mobas either
>turned into
It was made to be an esport and a cash cow, and nothing else. They ban for unsportsmanlike behavior and all that. It is genuinely not a game.
and?
I think it's doing okay. Will pull 100k viewers on the streams and that's pretty good for twitch desu
It's also pretty fun to watch
I really don't understand the hate for overwatch
Why do you write desu in english?
>stream
>watch
people used to play videogames, for fun
fucking zoomers
They didn't embrace the true appeal of their game AKA the girls are hot. We could've had Mei, Mercy, Brigitte, Widow, D.va, Pharah, Ashe, and more in cheerleader outfits for bumpers between matches and shit.
They want to be 'esports', don't they? Well sports almost always comes bundled with some good sex appeal.
And on this note, fuck whoever mandated over at Blizzard that every character with a good ass needs to hide it if they're not Nova Terra, Kerrigan, or Widowmaker. They give everything pointless little skirts and tassles that cover everything, like how.
>Sombra's Cyberspace skin should have some amazing ass cleavage in that bodysuit, but it's hidden because muh Christian shooting murder game and the children are too young to see a good ass. No, they're only allowed to see ass cleavage if it's hanging out of some bargain bimbo's Pink shorts at Wallmart.
>Gotta cover Mercy's giant ass.
>Ensure Widow has a skirt over her bikini.
>Make sure we don't see even a PEAK of Mei's cleavage in her PJ's skin; dress her up in layers.
nothing. It's actually top 3 most viewed esport beating csgo
>What went wrong?
Absolutely nothing at all. It was a major success this year, almost bigger than last year.
What are you on about?
It's what happens when you write the acronym for 'to be honest'
I'm most definitely not a zoomer and probably older than you. There's nothing wrong with watching streams and gaming at the same time, or watching a stream and doing some work on your PC
lol so make your own game faggot
>meanwhile in-game
>There's nothing wrong with watching streams
there's something wrong if the first thing good comes to your mind about the game is that the game is fun to watch, people that actually play the game says it is as deep as a puddle and grew tired of it in the first 100 hours
>shooter for people bad at shooting,
Then why is it popular as a professional competitive game in a gaming scene as hardcore as Korea's? They quite frankly set the standard for what's considered sufficiently competitive nowadays.
If it were such an easy game that anybody can get into, then why is the current Overwatch League roster literally an even greater minority of the playerbase than the current top 500 players?
It's almost as if you've merely dabbled in the game by playing a few casual-tier (anything below masters) competitive matches and based you entire impression of the difficulty of the game because you were too shit to actually play against actually decent players.
Because blizzard pours money into it?
someone did it first and did it better
for the big money blizzard throw at them, retard?
>muh korea
what a weeb, pathetic
>If it were such an easy game that anybody can get into, then why is the current Overwatch League roster literally an even greater minority of the playerbase than the current top 500 players?
because there are less than 500 spots?
They tried to build a competitive scene top-down instead of bottom-up, although that is being gracious considering how little effort they've put into T2/3 and ranked. They had a neat little game with a decent philosophy behind balance and they just kept adding character that broke this philosophy. It's like Team Fortress and hats.
Koreans have historically played Blizz games a lot. They're not half as dominant in stuff like Counter Strike. If anything they're the only ones who seriously bother with OW. Nobody else cares enough.
there's no place for lateral thinking in your stupid game, everything is set on rail roads, people follow the meta blizzard planned, that's why your precious korean ants love your dear sòywatch
>Because blizzard pours money into it?
Are you new? If you weren't, you'd know that no matter how much money devs pour into a game, it's the consumer that decides whether it's shit or not and ultimately determines its fate.
You think the money EA poured into promoting Anthem by any means made it any less shit of a game? People didn't play it because it was shit.
Meanwhile, within the competitive gaming scene, Overwatch League is selling out seats to its tournaments plus an average of nearly 100,000 people watching Stream on Twitch.
You can cope all you want for being mediocre at the game and call it bad, but saying it's not immensely popular and highly regarded for its competitive elements is a blatant falsehood.
>popular in korea
That proves his point. Asians are shit at shootan. This is the only non-top down game they excel at, because it's a MOBA disguised as a shooter.
spent so much on focus teams to get the politics of the characters right, and policing the behavior of the fanbase, using actual dev resources.
Needed more depth, better meta, beter maps, hell any maps.
The spent millions on tournament infrastructure without seeing if the game has support.
Prize dollars. Whwn blizz stops dumping money, it’s over.
Gay game for homosexuals
>it's the consumer that decides whether it's shit or not
the masses are made of subhumans
Too boring to watch. Most of the times I don't even know wtf is going on
The game has zero mechanical depth. Every character can be mastered within 5 minutes of playing them. There's nothing to learn or improve upon.
Meanwhile, TF2 players are still making and playing through jump maps because the movement has depth.
Considering the freebies for watching, and that it’s literaaly crammed into the battlenet client, I wonder what the natural view rates would be.
Sure, it would be sizable, but I’d bet they’d be beat sometimes by phone game tournaments.
I don't know a single person who even still plays this game. How the fuck do they bring in 100k views? Are they botting?
>saying it's not immensely popular and highly regarded for its competitive elements is a blatant falsehood
Nobody outside of dedicated fans takes OWL seriously. It's considered a joke by every single scene including Fortnite at this point. As for popularity, OWL viewership has been gradually declining and there's barely any notable streamers left. Nobody new is getting into Overwatch and there's evidence to suggest the current OWL viewership just AFKs for tokens. OW is not dead but it's definitely fading away.
Except Anthem isn't a competitive game you mongoloid. It's not even comparable in this regard. If there was no money in OW nobody would give a shit. Look what happened to HOTS when Blizzard pulled support for the scene. 100k people watching is also really fucking shitty when you consider each franchise costs anywhere from 20-60$ million.
They're 100% botting. The page views and video view for competitive overwatch content is nonexistent.
>That proves his point. Asians are shit at shootan.
Do explain how a game whose primary mechanics revolve around using your mouse to aim a crosshair on your monitor to shoot projectiles at targets deviates any differently from other FPSs that apparently requires greater depth of skill in order to perform the same function.
Have you even watched Overwatch League? A majority of the players' aim are superb and upwards to 50%+ accuracy, which is impressive for a fast paced game.
The highest quality gaming mouse on the market right now, the Logitech G Pro wireless, was literally designed for Overwatch League. It's $150 average.
I'm sorry but contrary to the unpopular opinion here, everything you guys say about Overwatch is arguably, hilariously false.
-Game is not very deep
-Meta ends up always being around a few characters and as a result every teamcomp are the same
-Banning e-sport players for trivial shit
-Koreans always win
generous hitboxes, ultimates, aim assist, ect
>The highest quality gaming mouse on the market right now, the Logitech G Pro wireless, was literally designed for Overwatch League. It's $150 average.
you talk like a shill on top of being a korean weaboo
It's really telling that every meta has mostly involved mirror comps. The game is always broken in some way.
>he says when the only team comp that is being played involves characters that don't need to aim except for Zen
Shooting in OW is objectively easier than in something like Counter Strike or even RS Siege anyways
>wireless mouse for competitive play
No
Most characters have weapons very easy to aim with and the hurtboxes are also very generous. Even TF2 requires better aiming.
Okay so I've never paid attention to the OWL in the past but why the fuck is it going on for so long? The DOTA international lasts for a couple days but I've lost count how many weeks the OWL has been going for
>primary mechanics revolve around using your mouse to aim a crosshair on your monitor to shoot projectiles at targets
They're not. Projectile hurtboxes are MASSIVE. You have to ACTIVELY TRY to miss if you wanted to. Team fights revolve around abilities and ultimates, like MOBAs. All the shooting in-between is about charging ults and waiting for cooldowns. You'll rarely ever die to primary attacks.
It's a season long type of thing like basketball instead of a short term invitational like DOTA's TI
The (declining) viewership is there because:
a) AFKing for skins
b) It's linked in the battle.net client itself
>generous hitboxes
Heh. Ok champ. You try hitting a Tracer main, all whilst she dodges in between damage sponge tanks and a teleporting Reaper main going for an ult.
Arguably, the gameplay is more difficult than any run and gun FPS I've ever played. such as TF2 and CS:GO. The "strategy" involved in playing those games is so linear you honestly can't seriously compare them to a game like Overwatch.
>ultimates
I assume people who bitch about ultimates only played the game when it was literally just released before people actually acquired game sense to counter them. Or they're just bad.
A poorly timed ult can mean fuck all and potentially result in no kills if utilized poorly, and your team will shit on you for it.
>aim assist
Weak. That's like me calling TF2 wack because of sentries. Assuming you're competent enough to counter things of that nature, they once again mean fuck all if not utilized efficiently and skillfully.
At least Overwatch doesn't have random crits and w+m1.
>ect
Whatever that means. Popular consensus: Overwatch is a great game for serious, balanced, competitive play.
They're trying to emulate American sports franchises. They've been pushing for collegiate teams too.
>The "strategy" involved in playing those games is so linear you honestly can't seriously compare them to a game like Overwatch.
Funny you say that considering OW games are decided almost entirely by ults. Literally press Q to win.
>Arguably, the gameplay is more difficult than any run and gun FPS I've ever played. such as TF2 and CS:GO
stopped reading there, nice wall of autism anyway, nerd
>Funny you say that considering OW games are decided almost entirely by ults. Literally press Q to win.
>t.quick play scrub
Name a single mechanic that takes more than 15 seconds to master in OW.
You can't.
Nothing, the last investment report showed it was profitable.
Jesus fuck imagined being this pathetically horny
oh look it's this thread again
The game just isn't fun. It isn't even really because of the gameplay, it mostly has to do with the community and the way the devs set up matchmaking.
The only way to get a game where both sides are trying is competitive. This is where the shit community part comes in. There is a pre-established way to play and most people think that is the only way to play. If you do not play the way they want to play, they will actively try to lose or they'll pick a character so outlandish that doesn't gel well at all with your team composition because in their eyes because you picked something out of the ordinary that means they can pick something way out of left field that makes literally no sense. As a result, 9/10 if you don't stick to the "roadmap of victory" (IE the meta-game), people will spend the entire match bitching and eventually will actively try to lose because they believe it will teach the non-hacker (the guy who isn't conforming to the meta-game) a lesson.
This is where the shit developer concepts come in. If you lose, you lose. You will continuously drop rank regardless of how well you individually performed. In other words, if you picked a non-meta character and tried your ass off you will lose just as much rank as the guy who didn't even try because you didn't conform. The combination of these two things highly encourages everyone to conform to the meta, making every game pretty much the same.
You say that as if they didn't have to rework Mercy because she was "Q to win".
Many other characters also have this issue and you can't deny it.
>stopped reading there
I know, I know.
You couldn't come up with an actual refute to any of what I've said, so you've decided to leave the thread in epic "le picture of distorted physics of tf2 character xDD" and maymay autism buzzword fashion to not make yourself look like an utter shitlord on an anonymous imageboard.
>Name a single mechanic that takes more than 15 seconds to master in OW.
Literally every class, from a competitive point of view?
Like seriously are you guys even trying?
100k viewers is extremely bad for a league that has a several million dollar buy in. There's way too much money and way too few players/viewers.
It’s built into battle net. Wow players who never touch the vid count as viewers.
I can practically smell the Reddit. Fuck off back to your ADD-ridden, leftist hugbox.
>You couldn't come up with an actual refute to any of what I've said
I already replied enough times to you, if you think overwatch requires more skill than counter strike, you are either baiting or a legit retard
>Literally every class, from a competitive point of view?
You can't name ONE mechanic that requires skill?
That's embarrasing.
The sad part is that the few mechanics that may require some skill were removed because they were "unintended".
Genji's dash that flung him across the map comes to mind.
>Q to win.
Listen, I know you guys really want to shill the idea that Overwatch is easy because of the ultimate mechanic that'll allow you to *potentially* wipe out an entire team.
But not even the average 12 year old with the slightest amount of game sense in quick play allows a random, mindlessly popped ult to wipe their entire team. You would have to be very, very bad and almost AFK for it to kill you; one kill that person will get at most.
An ult that clutches an entire team is merely the product of immense skill or capitalization of opportunity.
I know this is hard for the average tf2 babby to grasp, when you can just plant sticky bombs outside of the other team's spawn and trigger them spontaneously.
This post might have a semblance of being true in a reality that isn't ours. But Comp OW is all about stacking ults. It's fucking boring, and there's nothing interesting about it.
>You couldn't come up with an actual refute to any of what I've said
But you haven't either. All you said was that hitting the fastest and smallest character in the game was hard (no shit same goes for the Scout in tf2) as well as a teleporting Reaper, which is retarded since Reaper's teleportation is slow as fuck.
But it's true. Every serious game is based around ults so much so that players will sometimes kill themselves to not give ult charge to the opposite team.
Every team fight literally revolves around ult economy you idiot. Your argument is literally "just don't let them ult, use game sense to prevent it, if you get hit you're bad." If you could just prevent it, dry economy pushes wouldn't be a fucking thing cause you could just outplay every ult.
>But Comp OW is all about stacking ults. It's fucking boring, and there's nothing interesting about it.
Then if that's the case, why aren't you a professional overwatch player who can potentially earn upwards to a million a year for playing video games for a living? Why is there currently a list of top 500 non-pro players investing time into the game and competing against each other to earn this opportunity if it were that easy?
I love it when people who didn't even make it to diamond, assuming they've played the game at all, insist on being so critical of the game upon their perception of its difficulty.
You've probably literally only played a casual, quick play version with stats. You most likely don't even know what the meaning of difficulty is in Overwatch.
Not that user but I did play the game and got to master before stoping. The game is autistically centered around ults and you can't deny that.
>If the game is shit, why don't you play it?
This is you btw
Awful boring meta happening over and over again
>I can't refute his point so I'm just going to attack him personally
You sure showed him user
And learning tech every day even in normal matches
>mfw finding out calling for medic and turning at the right time blocks sniper bullets from hitting your head as heavy
And yet you can't give an example of a single mechanic that requires any sort of skill.
Stop baiting you dumb faggot.
Have you even watched OWL? Goats is all about ult economy. Individual plays are insignificant in the face of coordinated ultimates.
It was a legit tactic in earlier overwatch competitive to hide in spawn on defense as mercy and full revive your team. If that doesn't scream basic bitch q to win gameplay, nothing will. Shoo, bugman
>korea
>weeb
idiot
>Imagine being a teenage gamer.
Give it another 20 years and his sex organs will wither away from lack of stimulation other than his left hand.
>achktually
fuck off gook semen dumpster
And not only did they make it even worse with moth meta but it somehow lasted for more than a year.
It was made by blizzard
