Used to be addicted to this game but the progression just fucking sucks. The first 1-2 hours of setting up your colony are always the most fun, then you just go through the motions for the next 5-6 hours until enemies suddenly become space marines and wipe you out or you just run out of components because for some reason that shit is rare than gold.
I'd need a conversion mod to get interested in this again at this point. That Lovecraft thing didn't do it for me

yes you are right the base game is terrible, the creator is a massive asshole too for braging for his "game design" in a game so horribly bad that it rewards you for doing badly
I have played hundreds of hours and there is no way I would buy it
The modding scene is very good though and can fix some of these faults
Otherwise, just use dev mode or whatever and play it however you like, I do as a strategy game

>or you just run out of components
I mean that's somewhat realistic. Raw resources would potentially be plentiful on alien worlds where as human manufactured components would be an important rare commodity. I never had the issue you described though unless I was building a space craft. You just need to buy every component, piece of gold and piece of platasteel you can so that you can keep someone making them.

you can literally use a "mineral scanner" that after a few days of working it it will spawn a location in the map with the huge pile of ~100 components right in the middle of it
the game is just plain bad, you are a fool for justifying such a massive pile of bullshit

I think equipment degradation is the worst part of Rimworld.

You're just agreeing with me that not having components shouldn't be a problem. I've never used the mineral scanner and rarely use the world map for the reason you just said, you have no impact on it and it spawn what it needs, when you need it.

that's a very simple issue and there is a mod for that

The point at which you can build that scanner you can also just build a workbench with which you can build components yourself
I don't get why this has to be such a lategame thing, they can build guns and shit but they can't put together their own components?

Lost a bunch of men to repeated bandit raids, lost a bunch of time and money looking for new recruits and getting them up to speed, my base is in shambles, my research is completely halted and half my party can't tell the side of their sword is meant for holding from the one meant for stabbing, but I still can't stop playing this shit game.

Why do all of these sim games look the same? Are they literally using Prison Architect code?

rimworld definitely does, no idea what are the other of "all those sim games"
hopefully someone will make a better rimworld, or maybe dwarf fortress will finally deliver after 15+ years

Most of them aren't anywhere near Rimworld's popularity, but I've seen a lot of them buried in Steam.

Rimworld got permission to use PA assets but I don't think they share code.
Its lazy as fuck and sums up how unoriginal the game is. Just about everything in the game is copied from something else or from a mod

should I get rimworld or factorio?

Factorio definitely.
