Fuck all y'all niggas with your sekiros and your dark souls, this here is still the best damn game ever made.
Fuck all y'all niggas with your sekiros and your dark souls, this here is still the best damn game ever made
rogue galaxy was boring even by jrpg standards
great game but dark cloud 2 is better.
Nice potions you got there. It would be a terrible waste if I drank them all.
You could've picked like half of Level-5 library and end up with a better game.
RG was a fucking abortion.
>every level is just a samey corridor maze smeared in different textures
>need to have a barrier gun in like 60% of encounters or swap between it and a good firearm constantly
>that tasteless as shit setting that is neither funny or interesting and a team full of cardboard cutouts playing the most generic JRPG story possible
>insanely boring
Level-5 is generally a shitty, grossly overrated developer but this is by far their worst fucking game together with White Knight Chronicles
Level 5 is a level above the rest. They create pinnacles in the medium and rogue galaxy is their greatest acheivement
>a magestic universe with bright vibrant worlds and populations
>a heartwarming coming of age story
> addictive hack n slash gameplay.
>seamless leveling and a character progression board that influenced many other games.
Oh but don't worry, go play your shitty paint by number AAA games. no one will think badly of you.
Even during their PS2 prime they never were anywhere remotely close to being exceptional in any shape or form, their greatest achievement is DQ8 and only because they had supervisors stopping them from going full retard as usual. RG is by far one of the worst JRPGs in existence, praising this abortion is the same as praising Shadow Madness or Legaia 2.
But don't you worry user, you're entitled to your shit taste.
I remember playing it as a kid but I remember getting stuck and couldn't finish it. I wouldn't mind going back to it and trying to finish it.
I finished every battle with this step
>open skill menu
>choose aoe skill
>repeat if the battle is not done
that motherfucking golf mini game says otherwise
It was great but not even the best Level 5 game, it had quite a few issues and clashing design choices. But -
leave it to Yea Forums to be able to disingenuously argue about even a game like this for shitposting purposes.
I loved Rouge Galaxy but it's got so much bullshit in it i wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't play JRPGs.
As far as scope, it's probably Level 5's biggest original IP even bigger than Ni No kuni but the game has a lot of padding with big areas full of nothing and just generic mazes with some light shitty platforming that's not fun. Also instead of having the gun abilities be useful throughout the game, you use the gun for story progress maybe like 3 or 4 times. Final boss also was not fun.
btw DQ8 is Level 5's best game and the Best DQ game but Square/Enix still most control over it's design.
It's okay, closest thing to a Dark Cloud 3
>White Knight Chronicles
ni no kuni is far far worse of a game
actually if both had just had traditional turn based combat instead of horribly poorly made hack & slash the games would've been good
THis game sucks, it's clunkier than even the first DMC. You can't shoot your gun in the air for fucks sake. 99% of the special moves are just cutscenes that you can skip to instantly damage enemies, which really pulls you out of the game.
>Enemies show up
>use sandstorm
>skip cutscene
>Enemies instantly blow up and you gain experience.
Some enemies did require some platforming, fro you to jump on them, get behind them, etc to where spamming AOE skills wouldnt work but there wasn't enough enemy types.
I got to the prison level and dropped it because of the samey corridors making me circle around.
>leave it to Yea Forums to be able to disingenuously argue about even a game like this for shitposting purposes.
GTFO. The game was mediocre.
the tales series are the only good action rpgs that aren't action games with light rpg elements
That's probably the worst dungeon in the entire game, FWIW. It's by no means the longest but it's the most boring.
The worst part is, i've beaten the game, and I literally cannot recall a single character from it.
I didn't play Ni no Kuni but while I enjoyed WKC for what it was I felt the exact opposite, they should have focused on what they were proven to know and made pure ARPGs rather than trying to hybridize them with more typical JRPG combat styles but only making token efforts. Making and doing combos was still cool as fuck though but that's kind of emblematic of my issue, even timing guards gave similar feelings. The combat of the PS2 games was simple but extremely satisfying.
Not really.
Ok, that's a shame. I can recall everyone though.
If I can brute Force through it is it worth it?
So what's a good PS2 era JRPG then, bonus if action rpg? I'm more of a story/characters type than gameplay.
Not really
So I guess I'll just watch a youtube playthrough instead of going back to it.
Never played it when it was new, but I've tried twice to play it these days.
I just can't, the combat is so bland, your team mates are the dumbest pieces of shit too, and the story really just doesn't seem that interesting.
Depends what you mean by worth it. Gameplay wise it doesn't change too much assuming you got Burning Strikes but you haven't seen much yet all things considered. If you liked it before then and/or liked their other PS2 games then stick it out, much of that charm can still be found.
It doesn't even worth that. Keep your time for something else like your GF.
any of the 3 shadow hearts games
Gonna tack onto this
Story: 1>2>3
Gameplay: 3>2>1
Extra content: 2>3>1
I'd say for sure play the first 2, the third is pretty detached from them story wise. Its events only exist thanks to the first 2, but otherwise there's not a lot of shared characters or plot points.
Other PS2 Rpgs that are serviceable/have held up well enough
Star Ocean 3
Dark cloud 1&2 (they're a bit basic, but have enough extra stuff to make up for it)
FFX and FFXII
Disgaea series, while the newer ones are vastly better gameplay wise, the original story is the best.
Front Mission 4, gameplay is great, story is average
I'd also suggest giving the Growlanser series a shot. Story is average, but the gameplay/character development is unique and can be challenging when shooting for certain endings.
I wanted to care about the story but it's non-existent. Battle system didn't keep me interested.
Cheers lads, appreciate it. Obviously I'd recommend Xenosaga if people want to experience one of the most ambitious story and world ever created.
I didn't think the story was really non-existent, though more starts happening and things do really pick up to an extent but I felt it got a bit weaker near the end. It shelved the part I was more interested in pretty hard and it wasn't really brought up in general to begin with, while instead focusing on a later emerging kinda generic plotpoint. I liked it, the characters and the combat enough myself though so I kept going.
I dunno about best but I thought it was pretty good
some areas dragged on way longer than they needed to but it was still overall pretty enjoyable
Its clear that there was a lot of passion and effort put into it which makes me like it all the more
Reminder that Rogue Galaxy has a minigame that lets you play bug chess with a darth vader bug
L5's prime was on handhelds
