I don't think I really cared about any game I played for it until Bloodborne came out about 15(?) months after the PS4's launch. Before then I had tried to enjoy my purchase with some minor 'splurge' games like Infamous: Second Son, just to get a taste of what a more 'modern' game could feel like, since I skipped the Wii/ PS3/ 360 gen due to financial reasons. Still, I didn't like Second Son, and renting The Order sure didn't help, but once games started coming out I was happy enough with the console.

In the end I just don't care to rush into buying a console again. I knew I wanted to buy into 8th gen after missing 7th gen, so I bought the PS4 on launch night to get my 'entry ticket' out of the way so to speak. I did that because in the PS3/ 360 era I kept talking myself out of buying a console because "well I'd really just be buying it for [game], but with the console [game] would run me like $360 plus tax, and then I'd probably buy more games after so that's more money down the drain," and I'd always talk myself out of buying the bullet and making a purchase, so I wanted to just have a console in 8th gen from the start so that I wouldn't have to have argument with myself again.

Overall I don't regret it per se, but I think it would've been smarter to wait a year or two. If I had been more patient I could've gotten a PS4 Pro instead, so I'll be aiming to do something along those lines with the PS5 and its inevitable future version(s).

If you don't buy it within the 1st 6-12months you might as well wait for the ps5 pro

Normally I'd buy a launch console and wait for exploits so I can play free shit. But that's no longer the game, now it's wait until EoL for full exploits. So I'll wait until then, unless something like the Switch happens where it's blown open on early units.

Not him but the only issue for me would be no games, which is always true. If, and that's a big if, they actually deliver backwards compatibility I'll buy it day one. I know there's no guarantee that games will run better on the new hardware but there'd be no reason to keep playing them on inferior hardware.

Xbox One's successor (we need a name for this soon) will be backwards compatible with Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the OG Xbox by default since they're taking in the Xbox One family as announced years ago into any and all level decisions for their hardware.

I just said I own one and I'd like to retire my Super Slim PS3. Furthermore Sony's competitor will have a Next Gen Xbox that will be backwards compatible on day one with: Xbox One, Xbox 360, original Xbox. Why? Because the Xbox One is right with all 3, if anything their BC program will be even better and their head honchos are tripling down on having the Xbox brand as a BC family line going forward.

On top of that, consoles now get an 'upgrade' 2 years after release that renders the previous ~$500 machine you've bought obsolete, so if I would buy one, I'd buy it at the end of the console's life when I know they're not going to release another version.

I guess the main issue with this is that the PS4 still doesn't really have enough exclusive games, RDR2 looks cool but I have a hard time believing it won't have a PC release once the next console gen hits.
