Old games

Old games.
Are they even worth playing?
There's always a better option for games, be it gameplay, graphics, mods or multiplayer.

Pic related was praised for its AI. Sure, I can see how it is cool, but there are so many bad aspects to it. And I can't say that AI is even comparable to something like 2011.
Old games are bad.

The AI and gunplay in FEAR are fucking awesome. The shotgun is my bae.

FEAR will always be worth playing. I can't surmise a game that aged better.

NEW GOOD
OLD BAD

Fear has excellent conbat and visuals due to lighting

FEAR is one of the greatest shooters ever made and to not play it is to do a disservice to yourself and no one else.
>the AI
>the enemy banter
>the lighting/atmosphere
>the pacing
>the gunplay
>oh gods the GUNPLAY

It's funny that even nowadays games constantly rely on pre-baked lighting and hardly match fears because of dogshit console hardware.

>old games are bad
Check out system shock 1&2, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Rune, The Heretic games and Hexen 2.
Thief 1&2 are also great.

I can't really think of any fps that outdid FEAR. even FEAR 2 was a straight up downgrade

No other FPS gives you three (3) different kicks.

Its pretty crazy i dont get why more games use as much dy amic lighting as possible fear without its textures covered in shadows looks fucking awful and thats fine its excellent game design

true if you're a pleb as you won't notice the bad things in new games and can't appreciate previous gen

Tell me a good replacement for Ninja Gaiden Black

Sure but FEAR 2 is still very good.

>Old games are bad.
That's simply a dumb argument, every game that came out is an old game. Every great game that's come out so far in 2019? They're all old games now, because they didn't come out today. Either a game is good because its new (released April 21 2019), or its old (released April 20 2019 or earlier) and thus bad.

Sure, it has nice lightning. Because it's corridor levels are literally 3 meters wide. The levels are empty and mundane.

Fuck just woke up lemme redo that
Its pretty crazy i dont get why more games use as much dynamic lighting as possible, F.E.A.R without its lighting shows that the textures are awful fucking awful and thats fine its excellent game design

You're cherry picking. The office levels are awesome. The amount of destruction is impressive for a 2005 game.

>vent section
To be fair most of the game is office buildings

>There's always a better option for games, be it gameplay
Outright wrong, and this is constantly being sacrificed in new games. Very, very developers attempt to push this, and even when they do, it never makes what old games achieve irrelevant.

So many games don't even fucking try, and will either abandon directions entirely, or be an indie game and do a pretty pisspoor job of recreating them.
>graphics
Fucking debatable. More faithful adherence to naturalism != outright better.
>mods
Outside of build engine/Doom WADs, Valve games, and Bethesda games, mod support for most games is pretty pathetic.
>multiplayer
Fuck knows.

It's a good point, even if you're being a baiting shit about it.

>There's always a better option for games, be it gameplay, graphics, mods or multiplayer.
Name me some modern games like FEAR.

No one can name a modern game like FEAR. It has no modern equal.

Don't waste his time with all those good recs, he clearly wants to play awful games. I bet he'd like Mass Effect 3, or perhaps the latest call of duty?

I've also heard people praising shotgun in FEAR. Don't get me wrong, I love shotguns. I pick them even in multiplayer games like CSGO for close quarters.
But shotgun in FEAR feels bad...

Most of the guns feel pretty bad, except for the one that shoots giant spikes. They're all just typical FPS hitscan guns.

youtu.be/XlgsmZHVXt4

They're not hitscan by definition.
But they are pretty fucking bad. Having to plug half a magazine into a goon's head on the highest difficulty to put the fucker down, gets ridiculous.

Let's say Binary Domain. It's not horror game, alright. I like how FEAR scares me. But Binary Domain has way better AI (both for team and enemies), it has good level design and guns.
It only lacked in length and sequel.
