Painting a gun camo green makes it shoot harder. Walking around murdering things and choosing to increase an arbitrary number once in while make it shoot harder. Being within 100ft of certain characters makes it shoot harder. Why shouldn't engravings make it shoot harder?

Take a look at other guns posted ITT and guess how many perks needed for optimized damage. Mine needed zero.

The Anti-Materiel Rifle is the best gun.

Load it up with explosive rounds and take ED-E with and take out Legionary hit squads in 1 shot before they even spot you.

Slap a suppressor on this bad boy and you can take out an entire squad of NCR in a single shot with no reputation damage.

the spread is horrendous and unless youre heavily invested into vats bullshit or chaining steadys you will not hit anything with it

honestly auto weapons in general get the fucking shaft in new vegas, fucking nonexistent crit mod and huge, heavyhanded spread penalties for no good reason
and the damage you get out of most of them isnt even that good because of how dt works
then you add in the amount of ammo you have to carry, its all just unfortunate

This, Maria, and Dinner Bell was my go to setup with an occasional Anti Material Rifle for bosses like mother deathclaw.

It served useful to me though. Probably because most of my experiences in combat were close quarters. I never pick targets from afar.

Its ammo appetite becomes a problem on hardcore since you're using 0.5 weight per shot. Holorifle gives you both better DPS and far better efficiency per cell.

There's also Elijah's LAER that eclipses every other energy weapon at DPS, if you can afford a billion repair kits.

Who needs luck? Well you should because crits are everything but even if you ignore the casinos you can easily buy all the ammo you need

and no, on a related note youll want some investment in melee or energy weapons as well

Anyone crying about ammo availability are turbo cucks, any character with any repair skill can make weapon repair kits and AP ammo for any combustion based guns in the game. Just buy out all the regular ammo and surplus and break the shit down at a bench, then remake it all into AP

The only thing I had to actively be careful with were pulse slugs in OWB, since you can't craft them or buy them

My rule of thumb is to get the Jury Rigging perk by level 14, then do the DLC from there. DM has some fairly high skill checks, but otherwise you should be fine at level 15 or so.

It's not like you even need to carry ANY other weapon save for maybe a couple of grenades. There's also the fact that it can be obtained much much earlier than either the Holorifle or LAER.
Also, it's more accurate. The Holorifle's shots are quite erratic.

You can make AP's without the mod, you just need that one for the stranger types of ammo as mentioned. Also Jury Rigging is the worst perk in the game because the stuff to make repair kits are abundant within the game world and circumvent the need to have jury rigging in the first place.

You can't bring any items to Dead Money, aside from quest ones that are mostly useless.
The optimal level you need highly depends on your build.
- Having Light Step (level 14, PER 6, AGI 6) and 50 Repair (to craft weapon repair kits) makes your life way easier
- Having Silent Running (level 12, AGI 6, Sneak 50) allows you to just walk past most enemies
- Sneak plus high Energy Weapons plus being at level

Once you get the level 35+ everyone's dropping 8k caps worth in loot, you don't _need_ jury rigging to condense generic loot with other generic loot, you only need jury rigging to repair uniques, which, as I mentioned, is circumvented with the use of repair kits.

The fully modded stock laser rifle is one of the absolute best workhorses with a crit build.

That's what the Cowboy perk is for, making low end revolvers and repeaters viable for at least midgame minimum, although Lucky is already that good. I personally go with Grunt because I pic related is one of my favorite guns in and out of game and I hate that 9mm becomes obsolete immediately upon starting the game because you get the weathered 10mm with the DLC.

Depending on your perspective of things, passing some skillchecks can actually lock you into a slightly worse ending so you need to be more careful than usual about dialogue choices in this expansion.

It works on absolutely everything, including all bosses who are normally immune to knockdown, and it's affected by Laser Commander, meaning that getting >25% crit chance is trivial. The only thing more broken vs bosses is a maxed Implant GRX build.

My mistake. I was probably thinking of the shotgun perk, I know Ulysses is specifically immune to some knockdown perks.

I remember switching between weapons a lot especially in the beginning, honestly the service rifle, 10mm and 9mm pistols, and the hunting rifle were always there for me

The STR requirement is bullshit and even when meeting it it can get pretty inaccurate. Usually can get it for less than a thousand caps even on a low-ish barter build though, and its ammo variety is great. On a high crit character it's a good standby.

Ratslayer's crit multiplier is x5, meaning that you can have a 100% crit chance with it as long as your base crit chance is 20% or higher which you can easily achieve.
You have a ton of good handgun options for this as well, and no matter what you pick you should be getting The Professional since (contrary to the perk description) it affects all crits, not just sneak crits.

Better criticals is the other big crit perk. It's the sole reason people put points into perception

The only other case I know of where the description is wrong is with Heave Ho, which affects the arc on all projectiles whether they're thrown or not.
There's no list of it that I know of, it's just stuff I've picked up from the wiki while coming up with builds. I've spent an unhealthy portion of my life just coming up with builds for New Vegas.

Not damage, but the thing that isnt told to you is that Light Touch, Set Lasers For Fun, and Laser Commander's crit chance bonuses is that they're all totally flat.

While this means they dont benefit from crit multipliers, they also take no loss from crit losses like on full autos. You could have no luck and with all those, still have roughly 20% crit chance with a Laser RCW.

You're speaking generally, but New Vegas didn't have auto (or even assisted (unless you count VATS)) aim on consoles.

It is possible to do well in shooters with a controller with no assistance at all.
It's just that causal players make up the majority of the console market, so developers just add it by default.

Holorifle is just the best. It is unique in multiple ways: it's not merely the only weapon in the game that uses Sierra Madre's hologram tech, it's also the only pump-action energy weapon in the entire series, I believe.
The thing also has rich lore and meaning tied to it. It's the thing that the technological savant Elijah cobbled together from Sierra Madre's tech: it's what allowed him to survive the Ghost People and the Holograms.

And mechanically, it's similar enough to YCS/186 so it's a certified beast of a gun. Certainly more satisfying than that Gauss turd.

The hunting rifle is probably my number one choice for New Vegas. Taking aimed, purposeful shots that tend to be 1-2 shot kills on everything is really satisfying, and bolt action rifles in general are really cool.

I just like it because it fits my playstyle well. Namely - I or Boone spot a bunch of legionaire soldiers in a far-off city, which is also burning. Upon closer inspection we come upon a fucking dude wearing a fox' head who starts running his mouth off about crucifying people.

So I just point the weapon at the dude's head, squeeze the trigger - and BANG. No more dude. No more problem. I didn't bother approaching Legion gus after that point, I just fired whenever I saw one (or more) on the horizon. Fixing the wasteland one insect at a time. I recommend doing this, it's the thinking man's playstyle.

Have you updated Asurah recently? Mod author says that the meshes and textures don't match up anymore so they get all fucky. There's some compabilities mods out there for some of the weapons though, I always use the AK reloads for example.
