but the game is made entirely around high level players, the game is an absolute cakewalk on normal and nightmare and then when you get to hell you'll suddenly start getting your ass kicked and have to reconfigure your whole character (which you can do)

i hate to say it but a lot of stuff *does* get gimmiky near the end

Depends on what you're trying to do. Normal is easily beatable just with pre-req skills, though it's more of a pain the ass for some classes over others. If you're trying to do an enchant build or something like that and insisting on using it to go toe to toe with Duriel after putting your first point in it you're probably going to have a real bad time though.

Just use a hunter's bow with some gems socketed in it. Duriel isn't that strong, especially if you chug thawing potions.

I've had literally no trouble trouble at all running D2 on W10. Just use the client you get from bnet or some d2se bundle from some shady forum.

Masteries and shouts. 1 point in double swing is all you need and it is your best attacks until level 24.

Depends on what era you are talking about for this one. Pre-immunes, you could freely upgrade the early spells since you only needed one maxed out skill of your element of choice. Later on it still wasn't an issue, since the worst case is cold, which would invest starting at 18, but fire and lightning both start having good investment at level 12, which is achieved late act 1.

Worst case, you want to be a holy shocker, but not really a problem since zeal is level 12. You have so many excess points anyways that you could max out might and you wouldn't be at a disadvantage.

Critical strike at level 1, multiple shot at level 6. Why the fuck would you be holding off on spending points?

Corpse explosion is level 6 and there is no reason not to invest in corpse explosion. Only early problem would be Duriel, but you should have blood golem by then. Even if you are going for poison nova you are fine, you have 80 fucking excess points to fiddle around with.

I still have the original CDs. Why would I use anything else?

You are saving up 10 points for nothing. Builds didn't really exist pre-synergies because everyone could casually max out all their best skills along with whatever garbage they needed to reach the upper levels. A sorceress that spends 11 points in frost bolt, then the rest in nova, lightning mastery, cold mastery and frozen orb is just as good as one that didn't.
