Some of you may have seen that I was on Kinda Funny Games saying I didn't think Persona 5 was coming to Switch. I'm afraid to tell you all that, despite Best Buy (lol), I still feel that way. I think Persona 5 Royale is a PS4 game, and I'm pretty sure that P5S is something else entirely.

I guess it's possible that a P5 Switch port is coming separately, and it's also possible that the people I talk to aren't omniscient, which is why I don't like to definitely declare "Persona 5 is not coming to Switch," but, look, don't let these "insiders" get your hopes up too much is all I'm saying.

I'm very confident that P4 Royal is PS4-only and that P5S is something else entirely. (I've heard it's another genre but am not 100% sure. No idea what platforms.) I'm sharing this because I hate to see people getting their hopes up for something that I'm pretty sure isn't true, and it's frustrating to keep seeing "insiders" spread rumors that turn out to be false. It's possible that Persona 5 is coming to Switch separately, which would make me very happy, but it's not one of those two things, despite what Twitter insiders have been telling you.

how is persona 5 ive never played a game in the series and dont play many jrpgs but i have found that i enjoy jrpgs more on portable devices than home consoles
i like the artstyle and music but dont know much about the gameplay
the few jrpgs that i have played (mario and luigi and paper mario) i enjoy real time combat more

They modded the Persona 5 files on PC, used the PS3 emulator to record the video, and then used a hacked Switch to play the video, and signed the file as a game. The only hard part is modding the game, the other stuff is pretty easy.

Actually, if you look at how both Persona and SMT progressed, they've actually been following similar trends.
The first two games shared similarities with the original SMT games and even Devil Summoner in ways such as how you had 6 party members. Of course, them being people rather than demons is probably the first major difference between them.
Then once Persona 3 and Nocturne both came out, they both brought down the party count from 6 members to 4, as well as implementing their own take on the Press-turn system. Of course with P3 and 4, you weren't fighting demons anymore, but instead are fighting "shadows" and get "personas" by collecting cards. There's also of course the Social Link mechanic that sets them apart.
But once Persona 5 rolled around, it not only reintroduced demons as the enemies, it also brought back, albeit more streamlined, the negotiation mechanic. And also brought guns into the gameplay, almost similar to SMT.
Also I'd like to point out that the bosses of each castle in P5 transform into symbolic forms of their psyche, kind of like how in SMTIV people turned into demons by ingesting pills/fusing with demons/magic/etc.
So if anything, Persona 5, the most recent mainline entry in the Persona Series, is the most SMT it has been since the beginning.

I don't care much for RPGs, the only series from the genre I actually play and enjoy is Pokemon. But I see this series talked about frequently and with high praise, so it's made me curious.

It's a marmite game, either you love it or hate it.
While it is a part of a series of monster collecting games the collection aspect isn't like others in the genre with the monsters acting like equips for the main character.
Its also worth noting that it had a complete tonal shift with Persona 3 and became heavily reliant on VN elements.

I think it genuinely has a lot to do with the style and presentation of it.

Gameplay wise it's really not that different to your typical jrpg final fantasy type game, but the way Persona is presented appeals to a lot of people.

Seems like their design philosophy was "Anime but like, cool!"
