OoT Link is the most powerful one of the bunch, defeated Ganon and the god Majora, saved two worlds, and was so good at swordsman ship that his techniques are passed on in two separate timelines. No other Link even comes close.

The problem is that they forgot the games before OoT existed. They had the dual timelines figured out as early as Wind Waker, because it shows a distinctly different future than ALttP/LoZ, and there were even interviews from the early 2000's where the creators mention the separate endings leading to two outcomes and thus two timelines. The problem came when they decided to make TP to show what happened in the child timeline, completely ignoring that the NES/SNES game were already a separate timeline from WW. Bow they had 3 continuations to OoT's story, but only 2 timelines, so they had to pull out the fallen hero timeline out of their asses, but to be fair, the idea of Ganon winning and thus obtaining the complete Triforce lines up better with ALttP's story better, so I actually see it as a positive.
