duh. He's cool but the tech isn't there (yet) and a character's who side smash is his only redeeming quality elsewise? that gets hung up.

I felt that way with the entire game. Fighting games are boring and lack replayability.

Joker isn't a good character competitively at all so of course it'll end up this way. He's a shitty, easily-edgeguarded Sheik without Arsene and when he has Arsene you just play defensively until it fucks off.

Technically fighting games have infinite replayability, at least in online play as well as each person has different characters and playstyles. As you get into the more competitive scenes some of that is diminished with people gravitating towards the meta, but for the average player like myself that doesn't matter.

nobody in a competitive/multiplayer game can wrap their heads around the idea of "most new things will be harder to deal with because the methods of dealing with them haven't been figured out yet"

my personal favorite example is the paired ringed knight greatswords in Dark Souls 3, they have a three-hit wombo combo that you get just by mashing the left button
everybody was screaming about how it was broken, screaming for it to be nerfed, screaming about how Miyazaki and From were ignoring them
and one month later with no changes they suddenly weren't a problem anymore because SURPRISE, you can roll circles around them super fucking easy once you learn the timing

Ultimate is so well balanced, the only way people will play new characters now is if the meta evolves to favor them, and that's only happening for new characters if they're hilariously overpowered.
