it's okay on nightmare difficulty, quite dull on anything else. Characters are barely memorable but the visuals are really nice.

It's taken me 155 hours to finish the game and all currently released dlc quests (although to be fair, a good chunk of that is me autistically travelling manually by horse or ship instead of fast travelling, so it's really more like 100+ hours). I personally like completionist RPG shit like that. It's really fun if you like games like New Vegas or Witcher, not so much if you preferred earlier Assassin's Creed games.
Personally I hated earlier Assassin's Creed games, so it's a huge improvement. The amount of present-day stuff pulling you out of the animus can be completed in about 20 minutes.
It's a lot less grindy than people make it out to be, and levelling up is rarely a problem as long as you actually do all the sidequests in an area (not counting the gay timed "emergent" randomized bounties) but don't get it if you're not willing to make a huge time investment in it.

I might actually wait then, I haven’t even beaten Witcher 3 yet even tho I own it. Not for disliking it or anything, I just never started it. Maybe it’d be a better idea to just dig into that and come back to Odyssey later, like when the Atlantis DLC is released.

Odyssey is like a downgrade to the witcher 3, play odyssey first for the optimal gaming experience

I don't necessarily fault you. Extremely long games are an acquired taste. It's easy to play a lil bit of Odyssey at a time, but you have to invest at least a good solid month of gaming at a few hours a day to get everything out of it.

It's not very good, worse than Origins and that was kind of mediocre-decent at best.
If you can get the Gold edition on sale then it's worth it. The upcoming Atlantis DLC episodes looks like they might be pretty fun and overall there's a lot of content in the game so it's great if you just want something to sit back and play while waiting for more interesting stuff.

The parkour in Odyssey is actual shit-tier. Unbelievable how far they regressed.

I honestly don't see how you could play the Witcher 3 and then go and play Odyssey and have a fun time. Witcher 3 is better in almost every way, and Odyssey (and Origins) have taken tons of inspiration from that game.

That's the only genuine criticism of the game. I keep seeing people complain about complete non-issues just because they're butthurt that the game is different, but the "parkour" in Odyssey (if you can call that fumbling parkour) is an absolute and undeniable disaster

Origins was far, far better despite Also having some fantasy shit. Mostly dream sequences or flaming swords, which are excusable. The world was also more realistic.

I really like them if you pace when you play them.
It's great if there's like 6+ months until the next game you really really really want to play and then in the meantime you can buy a game like Odyssey on sale and have like 150+ of fairly decent game with even more with the upcoming atlantis DLC.
I do wish AC would go back to how it were in the past, no heavy RPG stuff and actual decent free-running system and hopefully good story (2, Black Flag and so on)

Black Flag was a legitimate great game with a couple of flaws.

the islands to the east are 20 levels higher than you, in fact Lesbos, Thasos, Lemnos, and Chios are level 45 minimum and likely to be the last places you visit in the entire game, as the Medusa is the highest levelled enemy. There's simply not enough to do around those 3 regions to progress without discovering the cult.

Get the Gold Edition if it's on sale. Might as well get AC3 remastered plus all of the DLC. I personally haven't enjoyed an AC story since 4, but Odyssey is fun to play if you just want some mindless killing action. The abilities are totally unrealistic and downright broken when upgraded. But it is a really beautiful scenery. I am looking forward to seeing what the Atlantis DLC looks like.

I disagree. Black Flag is full of soul. Modern day segments were pretty much nothing, they were just pace breakers and boring. You don't go there every 90 minutes at all.
