It isn't
I agree, but let’s be real here P3P is the best way to play the game
The cast is more likeable.
I love P3 but no.
Because you were younger when you played it.
It had soul.
challenging enemy encounters and a story that builds up on its thematic introductions
It's amazing to me we've gone full circle like this
I remember back in the day where bringing up P3 on Yea Forums would get you instantly dogpiled by P2 and P4 fans
Anyway P4 and P5 are soulless rehashed cash-ins while P3 was an actual evolution of the series into something that was more mechanically engaging than trying to coax retarded demons into being your pokeymans
Also P3 had no qualms about doing whacky retarded shit while P4 and P5 are too self-conscious to be daring
+wholly unique when it came out (novelty is important to me)
+soul
+great atmosphere
+battle system is about half a step above average jrpg of the time
+last couple months and ending are fantastic
-story is bad overall
-repetitive dungeoning
-grindy at times
-completely and utterly BTFO by Persona 5 which is a gameplay improvement in every way
P5 >>>> P3 >>>>>>>>> P4
>completely and utterly BTFO by Persona 5 which is a gameplay improvement in every way
P5 dumbed down the gameplay immensely, not to mention how shitty the game was aside from dungeoning with zero events. P5 has the worst story too
>-completely and utterly BTFO by Persona 5 which is a gameplay improvement in every way
I really hope you don't actually believe this, P3's story is better than P5's on every metric.
Zoomers feeling nostalgia for their first JRPG
>gameplay improvement
glad you almost understood what it means
It's a JRPG you stupid nigger, if the story isn't better, regardless of the ""gameplay"", it's not better.
It really fucking isn't and I hope this is truly some contrarian meme. P3 does good things and has great elements but holy fuck the sum of its parts is messy
better characters and theme.
I love Fuuka!
>P5 dumbed down the gameplay immensely
persona 3 and 4 barely even have dungeons
dungeons in 5 are almost as uninvolved (they just have visual designs), but I was referring to the combat system being braindead in 5
It's not really better than 5 (and that comes from someone that still likes 3 more), but as far as the comparison with 4 goes:
>P3 treats the player less like an idiot - that means that when the cast points something out, it's usually not obvious to the player already - as opposed to P4 where the characters would act like complete fucking morons, with Naoto pointing out shit that everyone should've realized immediately
>some plot-threads in P4 are straight up retarded when in P3 the worst you could really give it is being generic
>P3's gameplay loop is more bearable
>Tartarus is better both on the level of gameplay (shut the fuck up, it is - I can explain this further if someone wants so don't bother frothing at the mouth) and as a mysterious, narrative construct, it's more menacing than the fucking TV realm being a reflection of some dude worried he's gay because he likes knitting
>calming, soothing blue > piss fucking yellow
>jazzy hip-hop with electronic influences > whatever the fuck the singer was doing in P4 (with the sole exception of Heaven, that one's pretty good)
>Elizabeth > Margaret
>the Dark Hour is a cooler concept than a bunch of chucklefucks who honestly should've died on their first voyage into the TV, the SEES are at least shown to be more professional in their approach and backed by some sort of a large lab/financial institution
It also doesn't help that I finished P3P first, with all of its improvements (inb4 muh Fes, I played that later) and then bit the bullet and bought the original P4 on the PS2 immediately. The game's way harder and filled with bullshit decisions that would take Atlus until Golden to finally fix.
P3: The Edgy boy
P4: The Normies
P5: Try Hards.
Prove me wrong.
>shit pacing
>autistic characters
>overly edgy tryhard bullshit
>greasy emo protag
>manchild wish fulfillment character links
>retarded skin deep story framed as 2deep4u
>waifus
these games only appeal to anime loving teens and anime loving pathetic 20-somethings, kill yourself.
>JRPG
>Good story
Choose one
Slightly better story
Most memorable OST
Less troubled development cycle AFAIK
Haven't played P5 yet but P4's dungeons are really no better than Tartarus and the story is inferior in every way. They went way overboard with party meetup events. I'd rather hang out with Pikachu than sit through another "haha chie can't cook!!!!" segment.
P3: Emos
P4: Loser weebs with no friends
P5: Normalfags
Fixed it faggot
lol look at this dumbass
if you want a story read a VN
>read a VN
Are you forgetting what 85% of Persona is?
You got 1 out of 3 right.
>Loser weebs with no friends
Nigga that's all of them, try again.
not a VN? mementos and palaces took like at least 50% of the time
Please tell me how anyone other than mitsuru and akihiko are anything but useless and annoying
lol okay p5babby, the adults are talking
This.
None of the cast are likeable, you play through 4 and 5 and the cast in those two > then 3.
Tartarus took up the vast majority of the playtime in P3 as well, you dipshit. And that's if you didn't play the Answer.
>not liking da man Jumpei, Agies and revolver Jesus.
there also some of the social links that are nice.
The characters are better.
Junpei was a jealous prick who turned into a bro after realizing he was being a dick. Was a dude who joked through his negative emotions for the most part. Yukari is a love or hate character. She was honestly the most realistic character (ignoring The Answer) in terms of how people act irl. Shinjiro was what Kanji tried to flesh out; a "dirtbag" character who hid their "feminine" traits through hyper masculinity. Also had the backstory of killing Kens mom and carrying that guilt alone, trying to deal with that and the fact that his Persona was slowly killing him. Koromaru was the best mascot of the 3 date-sim-sonas. Ken and Aegis were trash, I'll give you that. Otherwise, overall I think the cast was still the best out of 3, 4 and 5. 4 has the worst cast by fucking far.
>the sun
I was expecting an ass-pull recovery. Didn't care for the character but was sorta surprised he wasn't actually around by SL10.
>99% of Yea Forums has never played the best Persona game
Reminder that P3's entire story is extremely backloaded like IS and the only things of relevance happening before September are Junpei's jealousy arc, Strega's introduction, and the info dump during summer vacation.
Reminder that letting you save characters from their redeeming deaths where the entire plot is about living your life to the fullest in light of your mortality is really dumb, optional or otherwise.
Reminder that P4's murder mystery, the entire hook of the game's story, has a character go "oh wait, I just conveniently remembered this person who was with the first victim 8 months ago".
Reminder that the Mitsuo arc is complete filler that successfully distracted most players into noticing the story completely losing all steam until Naoto joins to regurgitate things you already know at you because that's the easiest way to write "smart" characters.
Reminder that showing Goro killing Okumura should be shown in writing 101 for why dramatic irony isn't always a good thing.
Reminder that having the social link development be independent from the main story is even more jarring in P5 than in P4, as characters like Ryuji directly contradict their growth rather than just awkwardly ignoring it.
The only relevant party members in P1 are Nanjo, Maki, Masao, and Reiji. The other half literally only have 2-3 lines of backstory and nothing resembling character arcs, this is not an exaggeration. Brown shit his pants in class once so he decided to become the class clown, that is his entire character and story.
Eikichi's moral of "I love you no matter what you look like" rings completely hollow when his girlfriend becomes pretty again anyways, even after the new world of EP is made. Lisa's shadow brings up drug usage and pleasuring old men for money and this is never, ever brought up again by anyone, but IS is still trying to cram half its plot into the final dungeon so go figure.
Probably because it's combat and pacing are total trash. I've tried playing the A0 translation like 3 times and I've never made it past like 10 hours of the game. Too boring.
/thread
I love Makoto!
>Good tone and atmosphere which permeates the entire game
>mascot that doesn't talk
>good characterization instead of just dicking sucking anime tropes as characters
>a mascot that doesn't talk.
>amazing soundtrack including a mascot that doesn't talk.
It took the overall melancholy that attracted me to SMT games and gave it some actual teeth to the story. I honestly just can't get into the stories of the other series as they seem to care more about anime tropes and wish fullfillment then proper characterization.
It has a better theme and atmosphere. P5 has a great theme/atmosphere, but Persona 3's ambient music is slightly better/ more moody.
Most of your points are decent. Props for not shitting on Tatsuya. The dude had a hard life.
Akihiko and Mitsuru aren't interesting or likable, they just have great designs. Junpei carries the game as far as characters go.
Because it has interesting, relevant, highschool age appropriate themes, and they're executed very well in the main game. The Answer is trash that shouldn't exist. P3 has the best message out of any of the persona games and it brings the main cast together very well.
Are we really pretending that 5 doesn't have the best OST?
youtube.com

youtube.com
Well, it has better music, for starters.
>you actually meet his ghost/spirit by SL10
>you meet his mother afterwards and thanks you for keeping him company
>you hear in persona 4 that his book became very popular.
I disagree that it shouldn't have happened, but you touched on the issue. Main game characters are well established and The Answer fucked up most of their personalities. The overall message was good and it was a worthy continuation, but it would have been WAY better had the characters acted as they did by the end of main game.
>you hear in persona 4 that his book became very popular.
[citation needed]
His book gets mentioned in a Social Link, I want to say it's either Temperance or Death.
>The Answer
>Canon
despite being mediocre it's still better than shit
Better mood, better music, some very likable characters (Though some really shitty ones, too.)
Honestly, P3 remade with the P5 engine would be the best of the three. P4 is only as popular as it is because it has a charismatic cast.
Pretty sure it's mentioned by Kanji when he's asking what book Nanako wants to read, and he says something about a pink alligator.
Yeah none of those are really doing it for me user sorry.
it was Kanjis SL i think. either him or a kid in his SL mentions it.
It's not, but it feels very experimental which I appreciate a lot even though I don't think it executes a lot of its interesting ideas very well at all and it all amounts to a game that is a bit of a chore to play. Some of the experimental things about it carried over to 4 and 5 but were handled a bit better which I was happy to see, but some were ditched entirely which I think is a shame.
I love 5 and think it has a great OST, but I don't think it has the best one just for not being as varied as 3's and 4's. They had different songs for different seasons and it gave the different parts of the game a different mood which was really nice, but the most change you see like that in 5 is just Beneath the Mask getting vocals a bit into the game. I think 4G probably has the best soundtrack because the music in all three games is around the same quality, but 4G keeps bringing up new tracks right to the end where 3 sticks with the Tartarus theme the whole way through which I hate, even if it changes overtime, and 5 never changes Tokyo Daylight or Beneath the Mask, and while I like those songs, changing at least Tokyo Daylight halfway through would have been nice.
That's it, it was his link. It's either about Nanako or the one kid he knits for mentions it.
Everything is better except the gameplay
P3 is the best one because it gives you the most free time to just do whatever you want. Very few days are wasted on plot bullshit. No one forces you to go to bed.
the OST was good but nowhere as memorable as 3 or 4.
I think spelling out exactly what happened to the layman and treating the main cast like babies is completely uneeded and that the theme is more the point than what actually happens.
As much as people like to meme MARIN FUCKING KARIN having your party members pick their own skills making them feel like real entities was a good idea.
>5 never changes Tokyo Daylight or Beneath the Mask
Patently false. Tokyo Emergency plays everytime you start a new mission. Not to mention several places all have unique tracks (Tae's clinic, Iwai's shop, etc.)
i like the freedom it gives letting you explore places like the mall or inner train station.
Because the year system, the social links and the end segment were all based around P3's story and themes. P4 and P5 improved it mechanically, but they can't resonate thenatically as strong as P3 because they are copying it and their themes are inferior. Everything in P3 is enhaced by the fact that you died at the end of this cherished year, P4 and P5 can't pull that emotion and atacchment off.
The Taturus gives you a sense of progression through the environment and not just the story.
Thematically*
Attachment*
Yeah, but I'm talking about seasonal changes. The music obviously chnages for the different scenarios, but no song ever gets swapped out for another one because you've progressed a certain amount into the game, you just got certain songs for where you are and what time of day it is and those songs will be assigned to those times/places the whole game. Those songs are still good, and it's nice that more places have unique tracks, though I think it's in large part because there are just more places in 5, but it would have been nice for some songs to change overtime.
People will probably hate my opinion but I think the tired/sick status system in Tartarus was actually a good thing. It kept you from clearing the entire block of Tartarus on the first day its available and actually forced you to break up the grind a bit.
I didnt really enjoy clearing P4’s and P5’s dungeons in like 1-2 days and then dicking around for a month waiting for the plot to progress
The ultimate refill right here
Wish they'd remake Persona 1 and 2:IE/EP in the gameplay style of 3-5.
Better OST
Actually challenging bosses
FemC route on Portable
Teammates that are actually cool
Best track, coming through.

That's Innocent Sin, retard. But you're right. Persona 2 and Persona 3 are the best games.
Post the one of MC shit talking the dude with the nose piercing
I like the idea behind it, but I'd prefer having managing your SP just be more difficult than bringing it back. Kamoshida's Palace was almost perfectly balanced for me, because it was easy to get through it without dying but it could be a bit tough to get through it one day because it felt designed to drain you of all your SP before the end of it if you weren't actively running away from encounters. I like that because the game's don't feel like having grueling difficulty would fit them, but having you be punished by not being able to complete a dungeon in one day and having less free time as a result feels like an appropriate punishment that keeps the player from being stuck but makes it so that they're not in as a good a situation as they would have been if they could have gotten through in one go. My only issues with it is that the boss of the dungeon should be harder, especially since you're guaranteed to go in with all your SP in P5 and there should be some unavoidable challenge at the end that's pretty tough without SP, to be the last mile in getting through it all in one day. The rest of the game doesn't handle this as well just because SP becomes so plentiful as you progress certain Confidants, but I liked how it was balanced in the early game moreso than previous games in the series.
Got you senpai
The movies were fucking excellent
I had some fun zoning out in Tartarus during P3 but I was not once engaged emotionally.
The P5 anime is pretty good, too.
It had soul
make tartarus a unique dungeon instead of 200 floors of RNG and you would have a masterpiece
jesus christ what were they thinking
Don't remind us
Even smash is more fucking faithful
And people whine about OPM season 2...
This, P3 remake when?
Never
Ever
Hopefully never.
The only reason to play a persona game is the cast and soundtrack
P3 has the best of both
They know they can pull P3 remake any time and people would jump on it first chance
>Best sold game in Atlus history
>Give it a minimal budget
What did Atlus mean by this ?
Atlus is too lazy for that and if they just make HD Tartarus it will not be good
That is how japanese animation works
>Is the source material popular?
Give it a cheap animation
>Is the source material some obscure weird shit like Boogiepop?
Give it decent animation
cringe
P3 is forgotten, though. 4 and 5 are the only ones normies care about.
Nips are funny
It is worse than 4 and 5 in pretty every single way.
Why did the later games lack kino moments like this?
>Sobbing for 2 mins
Nanako 'dying' was more emotional
Because anime trends changed a lot since the early 00s.
Since anime is a declining media over in japan, they are pandering more and more to the otaku that still buy shit.
Back then you had people that cared about telling a good story, nowadays its just a matter of filling as many cliches as possible
I got secondhand embarrassment from this scene, almost as bad as the anime cutscene where he dies.
But user that scene is a cliche
>Back then you had people that cared about telling a good story, nowadays its just a matter of filling as many cliches as possible
This issue is universal to all media in the last few years.
Fuck off
Shinji's death was emotional if you were into P3's story
Because the retarded decision to lock any and all character development behind social links. Now characters are completely 100% incapable of growing without (you) helping them.
3 is cared about just as much those too, 1 and 2 are the ones people don't care about. If people cared about 3 less than 4 and 5 then it wouldn't have gotten movies in the past few years, it wouldn't have gotten a dancing spinoff alongside 5 and a remake wouldn't be so highly requested. I don't even want a remake of it, but you're delusional if you think people wouldn't be all over it.
reminder
Shinji's death was pathetic, it was the epitome of cut scene power and everyone acting dumb
>want to replay P3
>don't want to replay Social Links and half the other school bullshit
>realise I only want to play 12% of P3
Sooner replay it than 4 or 5 though.
God I miss character development outside of social links so fucking bad
It was so good to see SEES development during P3 story
March 5th
The problem is by around August you can clear half a block in a single day anyway so it ends up not mattering.
>What are Fuuka, Mitsuru, Aigis and Yukari slinks
If you go to P3P you can count everyone
P3 is almost as relevant as the other two. It got three movies, half of PQ, most of the cast got put in P4AU, and it even just got a dancing game alongside P5.
That wasn't "kino" it was just the start and end of Akihiko's fairly insignificant character development and all it was was him giving a melodramatic soliloquy. The only notable thing about is that its pretty much the last scene about his and Shinjiro's relationship, and that relationship, along with most of the relationships in P3, is handled pretty well.
I want to punch anyone that says P3 wasn't emotional
The end is emotional, but that's it.
The final months of P3 were the kinoest shit
>I want to get physically violent with people who disagree with my opinions over toys
3fags everyone
The ending punched me very hard on my 17 year old stomach that marathoned P3 over an entire weekend non-stop.
I genuinelly felt bad

>>Mitsuru dealing with her dad's death
Yukari just talked to her for some mins the it was done
it's pretty bad that I can recognize every single individual frame in this.
The actual most depressing thing in 3 is hidden in an NPC. There's a guy who loses his job but tries desperately to pretend for his wife and daughter that he still has it. Eventually he begins to resent his wife and daughter for being dependents but realizes that's just his self hatred turned outward. He continues to struggle finding a job and finding it hard even outside of the search because he doesn't want to put his heart into something only to have it ripped away by circumstances beyond his control. During the final months, he contemplates killing himself so at least his family can collect the life insurance money.
The last two are fine. Shinji was a plot device and the Sun is far too heavy handed and melodramatic. It only gets good at the end just like P3 as a whole loool
I just thought it was a nice bittersweet moment, but if you're going to get really emotional over anything in P3, that'd be the moment to do it. Even not really caring about many of the characters in the game it just wraps up the theme of the game nicely, it's clear what happens without being too heavy handed about it, it transitions into the credits nicely, and Aigis seeming fulfilled and Kimi no Kioku both give it enough positivity that it leaves you with a bittersweet feeling rather than feeling like it's just being depressing for the sake of it. It's really well handled.
I'll give you the Sun Link on second thought, but the rest of that didn't stir me in the slightest, the notion that someone would even get emotional over anything to do with Yukari or Mitsuru is surprising.
We need another sad ending on Persona.
Persona 1, 2 and 3 had bittersweet endings, then came Yu faggotry and everything changed
I don't want happy endings for P6
But I fully expect it to have a happy ending
>P1 and 2
>Bittersweet ends
?, i can give you P2 IS but not EP
1 didn't have a bittersweet ending at all what the hell are you talking about?
3's is more bittersweet than anything.
>Character we barely get to know over MANY months of random cutscenes finally joins
>Dies in like 1 or 2 full moons after joining the party so you barely got any time with him
at least you can go to the movies with him once, if you even did that over doing social links.
It's not like I wanted to know him more or anything, thank god for P3P at least fixing that.
4 had a bittersweet ending, it was just kind of forced. I think it works from a thematic perspective still though, at least if you ignore all the spinoffs, but it doesn't make much sense in the game itself.
P3 would have been one of the greatest games of all time if Tartarus wasn't shit.
People who cry about 4 are huge posers, imagine my shock
This.
Also P3 was unique when it came out, P5 just improve in normie aspects like graphics and casualized gameplay.
>worse story and characters than 1 and 2
>worse gameplay than 4 and 5
>got three versions in four years and still never rose above mediocrity
how the fuck do people keep sucking p3's dick like it isn't the worst game in the series? i'm convinced most of these people haven't actually slogged through p3 and are just saying it's the best to be contrarian.
But Fuuka and everyone else also had their development outside S.Links as well as in them.
People can grow and develop in more than one aspect you know? it's not like growth is lineal and a one time only thing.
No, 80% of the plot is character development, Dark hour and Tartarus were badly used along with Strega
Everyone in P4 and 5 had that too, strange ins't ?
>P3 story

>People can grow and develop in more than one aspect you know? it's not like growth is lineal and a one time only thing.
That's ironic coming from a 3fag.
You never fight all the 3 together, they don't do anything important at all, and their last fights are separated for whatever in god's reason
But they don't, at least not in the same sense as in 3
Persona evolution and character resolution after 3 are all tied to S.Links.
P5 had a small in the velvet room that showed some resolution from the PT but P4 had nothing like that.
Remove strega from the plot and nothing would change
P4 literally had a dungeon for each one, you can count P5 dungeons too
>then came Yu faggotry and everything changed
What's that? Sorry I couldn't hear you over these friends I can still talk to after my game ended.
Still has the best ending credit song to this date.

Based
They play a big part in the final months by creating a cult around Nyx and Chidori is an important part of Junpei's arc.
The resolution at the end of dungeons and the one(1) scene most of the 3 party members get are the same, just spaced out more. You let yourself be tricked into thinking they're different.
Coping nostalgiafag
No, they just played it when they were 17 between My Chemical Romance listens and writing blog entries with Mood: melancholy :(
They'd sooner remake 4 to continue the milking.
Is that why p4fags cry every thread about missing their "friends"? Lmao
Considering that Morgana came back from dead, it's a sad ending for the player who expected something from the ending.
The cult isn't important in the slightest and Nyx would have descended regardless.
>They play a big part in the final months by creating a cult around Nyx
NOTHING comes out of that cult, i give you Chidori but she is in strega for like 5 mins, then just for the last fight
>nerd can't cope with the fact that Chads have amazing and fulfilling lives.
Sorry about your chin and poor chest definition.
Is this true? Starting to get into the series and I'd prefer to play it on my Vita
Shitpost 2
P4 started the trend of
>One dungeon for each character
>They all gain powers the same way ("YOU ARE NOT ME" / "THIS IS ME!"), the only difference is that in p5 they have the decency of granting you the party member at the start of the dungeon.
I believe that separating character introduction and development from dungeons and social links would improve the plot by a lot
This
>4 movies
>3 fighting games
>2 Etrian Odyssey Spinoffs
>Dancing Game
>Drama CDs
>Stageplays
>2 remakes
When will the 4 milking end
Persona 3 would be the perfect game but I have to ask... WHY DID THEY GET RID OF DEMONS? The horror setting was perfect, with bad shit happening at midnight and people becoming SOULLESS just like in P2, but Shadows are stupidly boring and offer little satisfaction as enemies. P3 would have been perfect if it was the exact same but using the demons we've always seen in SMT.
>played p1, p2, p3, p4 and p5
>p4 i still top kino
>p4 is goty all year every year.
3 gets milked to this day as well, it's even been more recently milked with DMN, so I don't think that's a factor.
That is better than someone ass pulling a persona and getting in the team, also P3 arcs are a mess they happen at almost random times

>p4fags here to ruin persona thread
Some things never change.
5 was superior in every way.
You're the only one shitposting here friend. Grow up.
Seriously, P3 is, for the most part, on par with 4 and 5.
To me, what elevates P3 over the other 2 is the ending. Those last months were peak bittersweet.
The P4 dungeons aren't really resolutions, they're accepting their problems instead of actually being growing past them.
Cope P3fag
I still want to know how Haru is barely a character when she joins at the same Naoto does in 4.
They're getting ready to start changing and moving on. Just like in 3. Ken saying "mom I'm going to put the past behind me and move forward with the future" isn't actually doing it.
Accepting is kinda of a resolution, then they move on on their slinks

I'll give you Ken, but everyone else actually does show that growth.
Dunno if it counts but by Arena Ken does appear to have grown but that's a spinoff and I don't like to lean on those.
Right, which again are optional and if you don't do them their development is non existent.
Isn't an emulator technically the best way to play it?
Cordial reminder that no one has been able to refute this.
>Right, which again are optional and if you don't do them their development is non existent.
Aigis, Yukari, Fuuka and Mitsuru developments are non existent too, if you count P3P then you can count everyone
No, it's really not. You want P3FES for the PS2.
Shitpost 3
But they aren't, because they happen outside of S.Links, as well as inside S.Links
P4's development is S.Link only
>Their development is non existent
Yukiko is less of a wallflower, Kanji is less abrasive, Rise is happier with her life, Teddie does actually mature a bit, Naoto becomes more outgoing.
The answer adds nothing fuck off
P3P undub and P4 undub is what you want
Depends. P3P has a bunch of extra features added (including the choice of the gender for the MC which is great for a second run,) and allows you to control your party members as the PS2 versions didn't. Some people are still loyal to FES though, citing it being more 'immersive' as it still has 3d models outside of the battle area and anime cutscenes, along with some feeling the game isn't balanced around being able to control your party members.
YIKES
>P4's development is S.Link only
We just talked about the dungeon ones also
Wrong.
Right.
Likeable characters =/= Good characters
The cast of P4 are more immediately likeable (and thus marketable) but they sacrifice depth and believability for this.
No, it's a butchered port with bugs, spelling mistakes and many features missing
Emulate P3FES
For the fifth time now, they don't need to refute his rambling because they were going to bring him in for the murder of two people and the attempted murder of another. His self serving tirade wouldn't change that.
I'll just play P4G instead lol
>The answer
I don't give a shit about that. But he shouldn't have the gimped PSP version with no cutscenes and broken gameplay for his first playthrough.
Based
It's true, but it also doesn't really matter because he's a murderer and that's why they're bringing him in. Still a very strange choice to have the antagonist prepare a speech on how he views the world that goes against what the main characters believe and then not have them refute it in any way at all. It's not that big a deal though, because the IT still have a completely sensible response to it, but it is a bit strange.
Okay?
Emulate P3 after then. don't miss out.
I wasn't crazy about this when I first heard it, but it has grown on me a lot overtime.
I've played it and left incredibly underwhelmed. Only IS holds a candle to the later games in terms of story. EP spends its time trying to get the player to care about these older characters and everyone praises it because everyone except one character is an adult. It doesn't really make them more interesting though. Ulala is just kinda there after a while and while Katsuya has some good scenes with Baofu and Tatsuya, his own character is kinda flat. No one talks about the story because its kinda boring with Hitler replaced with some nobody and the New World Order.
At least it played better than IS.
Because you encounter and interact with Naoto long before she joins as a party member while Haru only gets 2 cameos. And the moment she joins she instantly proves herself to be an asset to the team by calling for hospital visits and aids in the future investigations.
It's really not
Story is extremely convoluted and most of the plot points don't really hit home because most of the main characters are completely unengaged with them
Gameplay is the worst Persona has ever seen and the worst it'll ever see
Bosses are fucking chairs and tables
They kind of do refute it though. Adachi didn't even try to connect with others and his speech is mostly whining about how the IT won't let him fuse the two worlds together and force everyone to become shadows because he can't get laid. The fact that he's whining about not having the magic ticket called talent to Yosuke of all people is mindboggling. Yosuke spends every day around Chad Thundercock and isn't a misanthropic loser and uses his friend as motivation to improve his own life.
I like Haru just fine, she only gets to shine in her Confidant though, and I know a lot of people dislike only being able to get invested in a character if you do their S. Link/Confidant but it's not something that bothers me. Some more scenes in the story before she joins the PTs would do her no harm though.
Adachi is an egotistic underachiever that blamed all his problems on other people
There, that wasn't so hard
The Mc, he was a guy that came to fucking nowhere and made friends with +20 people and solved a mystery
They refute it with how they live their lives and through their actions, but there's no big speech presenting the IT's perspective on the matter which is just a bit odd to me considering Adachi has a big speech presenting his stance on the matter, and you don't get such a straightforward presentation of the point of view the game actually wants you to side with to go against it, which is a large part, I think, of why so many people think Adachi is right, at least in his ideas, to begin with. It's not so much that the game as a whole doesn't present the IT's beliefs fine, it's just that there isn't any one clear moment where it's just put plainly like that where it is for the opposing point of view.
I don't know, but Devil Survivor is a better Persona than any of those games, and also a better SMT than mainline.
Aren't P3 and 4 the same on that regard?
>The people crying about Persona being a dating sim are from Resetera
Oh baby.
crypto is soooooo freakin groovy and based
There's really nothing to refute in Adachi's tantrum. He's being a giant baby and babies get spanked, you don't argue with babies.
he is right tho
>Desu fag
Fuck off with your delusion
I guess they considered the refutation to be self evident. Oops.
Name any relevant flaw in DeSu. You can focus on whatever characters you care about like any Persona and even affect the ending by following their route, the voice acting is god tier, the story too has good dialogue and an apocalyptic setting, it has highschoolers if that's your thing but adults too, the SMT demon and fusion system and even the press turn shit where you get a free move after hitting a weakness.
It does play like a tactical rpg with grids, but once you battle the enemy it's the same shit as any other SMT/Persona.
Devil Survivor isn't either of those things because it's not Persona or SMT so it can't be a better Persona or SMT. I'd agree it does some things better than either of them, but it's not strictly better than either of them.
That's reasonable, and why I say the IT have a completely sensible response to his rant, it's just strange that they don't try to refute them because it feels like a moment where the writers would have it that way, considering they have Adachi a platform to speak his mind on the subject, you'd expect they'd give the IT one as well. Again though, their response to his rant makes sense, it's just not what I expected when playing the game. Also, I always find it dumb how the comment that pushes Adachi over the edge is "I'm just going to come out and say it, you're nothing bout a lousy criminal!" It doesn't really sound like a comment that would bother him so much, but he's very insulted.
The lousy criminal part makes sense too. He's already really agitated for one, but the thing that makes it really makes sense is this. He's been taunting you over the intercom ever since he retreated into the TV world, creating clones specifically to gloat about his master plan, trying to poke holes in your reasoning, sending minions after you, he styles himself as a mastermind basically. But when Yosuke correctly points out he's nothing but a crazy serial killer that really gets to him. He's not smart, he's not a mastermind. He just got lucky repeatedly (despite complaining about other people getting lucky) and nobody's buying his bullshit and they don't care about his sob story. They're not afraid of him, intimidated by him, he's just another boss to fight and that makes him seethe.
gimped how exactly?
This isn't inaba, the overworld in 3 is fucking barren.
Also who the fuck plays 60+ hour RPGs on a fucking computer?
Well, I don't think anybody's gonna argue against the fact that the writing in persona games isn't the best, and I agree that this interaction could have been much more. The main point of importance is that Adachi is not arguing in good faith : he's making excuses and trying to justify his behavior post hoc. In a game all about reaching for the truth and dispelling the mist of doubt, thematically it makes perfect sense to have such an antagonist and I agree it's a missed opportunity to not have lampshaded it a bit more - but on the other hand, the pieces are all there, so there's no big harm done.
Plus, these kids ain't the brightest, so they probably would have not been able to articulate why Adachi is wrong.
character development without social links, nice ending, nice ost, strega was a good plot point even if they were fucking horrible gameplay-wise, party members get their personas without crying about their issues, and with shinji we get to see the consecuences of almost everybody being able (in theory) of summoning a persona.
but the afterschool time was horribly managed. hermit shouldn't waste the entire day, police station shouldn't be closed at night, you can't do shit on vacations, a lot of the non SEES school social links are useless in character development, and since your male party members aren't SL's, you don't get the extra character development from them, unlike the female SL's.
I wonder if they remake the game in the future if they would add the missing month like in P4G, at least until valentine's
>character development without social links,
4 and 5 had that
>nice ending
Had that too
> nice ost
Same
> strega was a good plot point
Haha
> party members get their personas without crying about their issues,
Say that to their ultimates
> with shinji we get to see the consecuences of almost everybody being able (in theory) of summoning a persona.
We see that with Adachi and Akechi too
>Party members don't cry about their issues
Yukari, Akihiko, Junpei, and Mitsuru all get their Personas while crying funnily enough.
That's a fair way to see it, I suppose I always just got caught up on the criminal part of it and overlooked the lousy part of it that comes off as more of Yosuke belittling him. It's just the way Yosuke says it is as if it's the worst thing he could possible say and setting up with "I'm just going to come out and say it" and then he just calls him a criminal, which is what he is and he knows that as well as the rest of them, so I always focused in on that and found it a bit silly.
I'm going to assume it was an error with the translation. Probably was more scathing in the original language
>Character development without social links
NO IT DOESN'T COUNT! EVERY CHARACTER NEEDS TO HAVE THEIR ARC ARTIFICIALLY STRETCHED OUT TO COUNT!!!!
>Junpei arc duration is like 1/4 of the game
That shit was ridiculous
well, he is the main character
I like Junpei, but him gaining new found determination because of pussy isn't some 10/10 character arc really.
>likes p4
>likes rick & morty
>want to date children
>has the most cakes in the series
Geez, what did trannyera mean by this?
I see you used reddit as an image, that must mean you like reddit
This is unironically how a 3fag's brainworks.
It's not about the fucking overworld you chimp, the presentation of every single scene is straight up objectively worse.
He's right. I am a brainlet so take what I see with a grain of salt but it wasn't always clear what was happening in the P3 cutscenes and having the Koromaru rescue be described to you through text kind of ruins that scene.
How is that sequel going?
Oh wait...
all that time wasted on someone who's just the homeless man's eikichi. yikes!
I'd say that him being fulfilled and finding a purpose are more the point, and I don't think it's that unreasonable for him to find that through a relationship.
It was kinda strange
kino art direction and characters
4 and 5 feel like typical anime romps
>kino art direction
P4 dungeons visuals > the shit that was tartarus
>characters
They are the same shit
This. Come talking girl robot and dog, let's go fight in the dark world by night and get to school on time! I sure hope Yukari-san and Mitsuru-senpai don't catch us peeping in the hot springs!
I just wish Chidori was a better character is all.
>I sure hope Yukari-san and Mitsuru-senpai don't catch us peeping in the hot springs!
even that shit was a million times better in 3 than in 4
>gets roped into peeping the girls by junpei and ryoji, however you must take charge and hide from them
>literally does nothing wrong and gets called a pervert
Hell no, the P4 one was an accident instead of faggot Mc that goes with the others
>Literally does nothing wrong and gets called a pervert
Same thing happens in 3, they just make you play a REALLY shitty minigame first.
It kept the "something wrong/big bad is going on" atmosphere we had in P1/2 in daytime unlike P4/5.
I mean, in P1/2 demons were in the real world and your life was always at risk, in 3 death was kind of omnipresent with Apathy Syndrome.
In 4/5 it's just "double life: cool student in daytime and hero when I'm in TV/a thieve"
The Dark Hour and Tartarus is a cooler concept than the TV world and Mementos
>Smash took the original Mass Descruction instead of the FES version
Not mad, just disappointed
youtube.com
P4 fog days was cooler than some zombies
Hell no
>Refusing
Based
based
Yeah and having an empty overworld brilliantly plays into the themes of death and nihilism.
Thanks for the upvotes guys.
>Empty over world
Of all the things to think you have a point, you use the one thing all the games are exactly the same in?
>P5 has the most S.Links with actual adults, no kids aside from the gun kid
>P3 lets you date an actual 8yo who wants to marry you at the end of it
P4 and 5 had countless things to do compared to P3
>Exactly the same in
Delusional.
>Smash didnt use the mix of both like in the Dancing game
you don't date her
She kisses you
?
That doesn't mean you're dating her
The outside of Tartarus looks pretty cool at least
the inside though
Like what was up with that weird ice/crystal area at the top?
>tfw thought he was actually just falling asleep
>didn't realise he died until i looked up discussion about the game later
P3P does all these scenes so much better holy shit
>youtube.com
The movie was the best version anyway
youtube.com
except after listening to it enough I don't like the train horn that pops up like twice
The movie version is my favorite
Works with the VN format better
BABY BABY BABY BABY BABY BA BABY BABY BABY BABY BABY
YEAAAAAAAAAAAH
ITS A BATTLEGROUND RIGHT HERE
FPBP
They're the same drink just in different flavors
>Same drink just in different flavors
If the drinks have different flavors then they're not the same. Shit analogy, retard.
>Um actually having party members that you can't directly control is a brilliant metaphor and you need to get good if you can't use it. No I don't care you unlock all the tactics before the half way point or that you barely ever use them outside of bosses. IT'S DEEP
FeMC must be great for trannies huh
They could just imagine that picking the skills is actually the teammate thinking, then it its the same analogy
Literally nothing happens in the story for 3/4th of the game
Speak for yourself, I had the laugh attack of my life with that one gay kid pretending to like our teacher when he obviously has the hots for me
>H-heh.. I wouldn't be able to be friends with you if you never kisssed a girl, honest! Hahah, I too enjoy kissing chicks
>250 floors of the same randomized pattern
>same music the entire time
>combat plays itself
>plays itself really badly as well
>garbage story where characters tell you to literally grind for the next moon boss
>shoot yourself in the head emo shit only a try hard could think is cool
>30 hour game stretched to 80 hours because boring SOAP OPERA LINKS
Persona 3 is fucking AWFUL and one of the worst jrpgs I've played.
Persona 4 is a slight improvement, but still a below average game with most of the same flaws except you can actually play it.
Never played Persona 5 and don't want to. The series sucks.
Where is SMTV and the RE Fantasy game? Fucks sake Atlus.
it's a sad ending because the cat should've stayed dead but i guess we should've known atlus would never kill their mascot
Nostalgia. I played 1-5 for the first time all in the same year and Persona 3 was easily the one that interested me the least.
Persona 5's the best of the modern Personas, but it's still not exactly great. The only ones I really like are 1 and 2, but the dungeons and encounter rate are fucking awful in 2. I know people hate 1's dungeons too, but they don't really bother me.
4 improves on 3 a lot mechanically. The QoL changes in Golden especially are hard to go back on.
>my subjective taste is universal
Fuck off retard, that pretty much invalidates everything you said automatically. I did the same thing and 3 ended up as my favorite.
> Being this contrarian
I bet your favorite Final Fantasy is 5
Have you considered the new PC game Watching Paint Dry? You'd probably like it.
>I bet your favorite Final Fantasy is 5
Correct.
I didn't really enjoy Persona 4 as much as I did 3 or 5, and moreover I didn't really enjoy its spinoffs that much, but there was really something about the P4G:A Adachi episodes that hit the exact right chords. I'd even go as far as to say it's the definitive version of Adachi, rather than what was shown in the actual canon.
I love the overall message in 3 way more than I do 4 or 5. What was 4s? Search for the truth or something. And 5s? Adults bad!
t. brainlet
You ever look up what she's actually saying? It's the saddest shit once you you add it to the scene.
This.
4's is pretty simple. It's about not letting others define who you are whether that be your personality or your beliefs.
I mean I'm down for that, but if that's what they where going for they didn't to it very well.
>All slinks about that
>All dungeons about that
>Final boss keeps preaching about that
What more did you want ?
hoy
4 was about accepting yourself for all that you are and facing everything you are instead of running away from it. Rise actually shows it best in my opinion because she has a pretty clear divide between her two personas of Rise and Risette, but it's mostly just in her S. Link that it's handled well. P5 is about not letting people or systems keep you from living your life the way you feel you should and being who you are. The only person who keeps bringing up adults is Ryuji and its obvious that he doesn't mean "people over 18" but the kind of people who control and oppress those beneath them because they have the power to.
>What was 4s?
do you not remember literally every character going "NO YOU'RE NOT ME" and then fighting their shadow
When did SMT IV get accepted by fans?
On release.
1 > EP > 3 > IS > 5 > 4
Daily reminder
This.
Nothing exists before 3.
> 1 and 2 > anything at all
>get accepted
>by fans
Fans aren't a single entity. Most of them were always satisfied with the game.
>t. hasn't played them
Which did you like better, the Mikage Ruins or Devil's Peak and why?
Just by the fact that you put EP above IS already proves you did not played them
Yuko is best girl
>making the gameplay better and having a higher-stakes plot isn't better because m-muh waifu
>Dodging the question
>having a higher-stakes plot
>Higher stakes plot means better
Fuck off
>Higher stakes plot means better
But he's right.
Why?
Higher stakes in the sense that the characters are actually taking shit seriously and understand the weight of their actions, dumbo.
But that is not what happens at EP at all ?
>Still dodging the question because he just watched a cutscene compilation on youtube
Lol
No it wasn't hence why it was changed.
>. If people cared about 3 less than 4 and 5 then it wouldn't have gotten movies in the past few years,
Are you retarded? 3 only got movies due to the success of the P4 anime before that it had not been revant for years.
Is the femC route interesting compared to the normal one like with the field trip for example?
No, Femc route just makes things retarded
Yes. She has a completely different set of social links, including male party members.
>3 gets milked to this day as well,
Nope. Hell the P3 Dancing game bombed.
Not contarian, man. I just liked the darker, more dungeon crawly classic JRPG feel of the older ones. I gave the social stuff a chance in the others, but it's not done too well and the calander system just drags shit out.
Those two statements don't contradict each other
I wanted to give 1 a chance, but the terrible dungeons and persona creation ruined it for me.
>terrible dungeons
You mean like the entire series?
>persona creation
Look up a few basic guidelines and it's not complex unless you want to get into the deeper aspects or do a reverse run of SQQ
Just cheat, fuck the gameplay
It still got movies, it got spinoff games, it got to be in PQ, just because they did it with P4 first in some cases doesn't mean they didn't do it with P3 and they did it with P3 because they knew there was an audience for it, unlike 1 and 2 where they don't bother because the audience isn't there because fans of 4 often care about 3 as well but fans of 3 and 4 don't often care about 1 and 2.
It didn't, don't tell me you are a retard who only looked at the individual sales and didn't take into account that the vast majority of them were sold through the double packs, because it sounds like that's what you're saying.
Even if you count all that shit it + P5D did not pass 100k
You aren't accounting for the fact that those bundles were overpriced as fuck
So they more than made up the cost of making them.
Notice how P3fags never bring up Strega in any of these threads.
I'd say 1 > IS > EP > 5 > 4 > 3. I think half the reason I liked the first game is the music (not the PSP music, I played the Nip PSX version). Also liked the whole reality breaking and demons invading thing. It was... sorta like that in 2? But at the same time, not really. 2 was weird in that you ran into demons everywhere, but there was no real explanation for it as far as I can recall, and no one reacted. Unlike the first game, no one seemed to notice the demons crawling around the schools an music shops.
P3fags never bring anything, they just say story and characters were good then they fuck off
There's nothing wrong with Strega.
If you ignore everything about them that is fine
>You mean like the entire series?
3-5 didn't have random encounters and random chances for back attacks.
>Look up a few basic guidelines and it's not complex unless you want to get into the deeper aspects or do a reverse run of SQQ
The more annoying part was getting moves and the UI for it was all shit. Plus I stopped midway through the fifth dungeon and have no idea how to get persona materials.
I used habitual save states and it didn't help very much, if I cheat entirely, I may as well just watch the game.
So it ruins the main story but offers nice links?
>I may as well watch the game
Hey that's what half of 1 and 2's fans did anyway.
I don't usually bring up the bad parts of games I really like either so I understand.
It hasnt lol
Specially not when IVA completely surpasses it in the gameplay aspect
Reminds me of P2fags
Depends, Shinji one is amazing cause it expands him, Junpei and Akihiko ones were meh, Ken one was regular
To be fair, Kenji and Mamoru weren't that great either. The only downgrade is Hermit.
>60+ bucks for that shitty dancing rhythm game that doesn't even follow the rhythm.
Jew Atlus
So femC route is decent at best?
I find it bad cause Femc but it its cool
The S. Links are better and, in my opinion, the music is better outside of Wiping All Out. It's worthwhile for a replay I'd say, but not I would recommend for the first time through.
It's honestly not THAT much different than the norm. It's perfectly fine if you want to replay the game but want to change it up a bit.
I'm just saying that the success of the P4 anime us what prompted them to do P3 as well.
Would you guys have preferred P3 protagonist in smash instead of Joket
No
Yes, but Demi-fiend would've been the best.
>Demi Jobber fiend
Lol no
I'm thinking about replaying it, I just want to know if it's worth my time or if FES is nicer between the visual quality and party control.
For a replay her route is perfect
I personally would have rather had doomguy or Raidou but I'm fine with what we got.
Joker's my second favourite MegaTen protagonist, Raidou stood no chance of getting in, and I don't like P3MC very much at all, so no.
I understand ppls hate for post answer yukari, but it's fallacy to call her "unrealistic". She is highly dependent on Door-kun, going as far to say in the ending that she is rash and wouldn't know how live without him. Here inability to cope with his death is perfectly understandable for someone who needed that moral support.
