Are other Tales of games like this? I usually love JRPG's (Ys, Xenoblade, Persona, Disgaea), but this one just never clicked.

I felt the same way. I trudged through Vesperia waiting for that amazing twist, the story to pick up or the characters to stop being shit but it just never happened. Phantasia and Abyss remain my favorite.

Berseria is a very good game at a very good price. Skip Zestiria and play Hearts R if you're ever in the mood for air combos and saturday morning cartoons. Hearts R (and Innocence R) have the best AI management in the entire series, you can micromanage the AI to hell and back, it's unfortunate that's not the case in the games that came out after.

Xillia isn't bad either but the writing goes from okay to good to dogshit, and XIllia 2 isn't worth playing.

Its the 360's generation's first Talea of game, so there's a lot of dicksucking involved and nostalgia. Prior to Vesperia, the most pooular Tales of game was Symphonia. There was Abyss, but Symphonia constantly had its dick sucked mainly by kids who grew up with a Gamecube, and that game aged badly in terms of gameplay.

I played both the original version and the PS2 one. Replayed the original through dolphin too. The combat is a slow crawl and felt like they were just transitioning from Eternia to Abyss (which it was). Abyss was unbalanced as fuck, and Vesperia felt ok but was hit stun city. The autorepositioning of the LMBS in Symphonia just felt a bit unnecessary.

Because character like Yuri isn't exactly common in JRPG. You may argue that he's a shit character but it's really easy to see why people are drawn to him.

Karol grows from a bratty child to a brave fighter and the growth is endearing. Patty just squeals "nanoja~" or makes pirate puns at every opportunity. Patty's cute, but like almost all the female characters in Vespy, physical appearance is all she has going for her.

I dunno why I kept hearing that Judith was some incredible air fighter. Fucking hell, Emil feels better than her. Judith is so floaty, and so many artes require use grinding just to enable decent chaining and aerial usage, not to mention that she devours her TP faster than a landwhale devours a hotdog. And even then, you have to get through a huge chunk of the game just to finally get skills that let you chain artes more freely.

Because the people who praised Vesperia all these years were 360kiddies with no other games to compare it with, that when challenged deflected to the PS3 version despite not having played it themselves. How did no one ever realize this?

Switch version was 100% stable for me all the way to clearing the postgame out outside of constant Keiv Moc crashes that made me rush through the dungeon. But they patched it after I played through that part and I don't know if that got fixed.

Out of the other 2 Hunting Blade members, she was the only one who started to question killing monsters and even tried to get them to stop trying to kill Gusios, and they even abandoned her as soon as she had doubts. She has a unique weapon type, would have fleshed out Karol some more with skit conversation, and the empty space next to Flynns portrait when your buying equipment is just burning my eyes.

Played this first in 360 and had the switch version on hold. I'm playing now and just finished arc 1. Does anyone else feels it's weird to have Flynn in your party? I mean, I like having him for gameplay's sake, but it's thematically jarring. The game always had this theme of duality with Yuri and Flynn taking different paths to achieve the same goals. Yuri was doing the things Flynn couldn't and vice-versa. Having Flynn there to fight Barbos didn't feel right.

It would have been some hard irony to see her get kicked out of her guild after the fact she kicked out Karol.
