Will they make it?
>be young me
>playing myst
>find the metal sheet in the fireplace
>making patterns
>accidentally get the right one and skip 90% of the game on my first playthrough
I have nostalgia for these games but i don't actually think they were good, a new one seems a little pointless.
No, the money already went to their head. They're probably planning a half year vacation.
>2019
>1m for a mist like adventure game
How ?
They don't need that much for an adventure game
Theyll just remake it with a lower goal once they realize they can't just expect people to pay for their entire retirement with one kickstarter
They won't get ANY money if it falls short of the goal and doesn't reach it in the next 6 days though.
>Myst
I never got the appeal of point and click shit
80% of that is to buy the rights to the engine they want, i bet.
>Mystlike
Literally a product of it's time.
I can't be assed to play these PaC adventure mystery games anymore. It was cool when there was literally nothing better to play/do. Now there's so much more fun for your buck to be had out there. I tried playing Abe's Odyssey the other day and couldn't believe I put up with that much monotony back in the day.
It's not that there's anything wrong with challenging your brain to a good puzzle, it's that these games solely relying on doing so just don't hold a candle to bigger, more versatile products out now.
Aren't they using Unreal Engine 4, like Obduction?
How underage are you?
It costs anywhere from 60-100k to employ a competent dev for a single year.
And that doesn't include basic business overheads, it doesn't include office space, it doesn't include hardware, licensing fees, utilities, legal fees, accounting fees, business fees, superannuation, healthcare, tax etc
1 million will get you *maybe* ten competent developers for a year.
>What are contractors
>Move the office to a cheaper location
>but i don't actually think they were good
The puzzle design of both myst and riven is near flawless.
>>Move the office to a cheaper location
Their offices are already in Spokane, Washington. They're not a Cali company in San Francisco.
Contractors and freelancers are even more expensive than full time employees dipshit, especially if you need someone full time, which they will.
>Move the office to a cheaper location
Are you offering to move them into your basement so they can get in on your sweet living at home rent free with added hotpockets deal?
>flawless.
>but a 12 year old kid can speedrun the game on a blind playthrough by randomly making patterns on one of the endgame puzzles 10 minutes in
OK
if you played obduction you might understand.
>Not using the power of USD to hire a cheap labor outside of US
Foreigner contractors are cheaper than a full time american employee.
Kickstarter is still a thing? I better get to work on my solo project then.
>Loved Myst and Obduction
>Might finally jump on the VR train with the Index
Please don't fail
VR is a meme gimmick fad that is already over, they will not make it.
>Kickstarter is still a thing?
surprisingly there are projects other than games that can be kickstarters. i know a shit ton of popular boardgames are kickstarted these days
They had real actors for the characters, kind useless in my opinion.
>Kickstarter is still a thing? I better get to work on my solo project then.
As long as it's something people really want and you have a good presentation for it you can still have a lot of success on it. There's a lot of shitty products though.
Stick to puzzles in skyrim fgt
not useless when you remember the first 3 myst games had fmv cutscenes with real actors, the real actors are part of the charm of these kind of games and a lot of people were excited to see rand miller in another game
>that is already over
>Valve of all companies is about to reveal their own headset that will come with their own controllers that can mimic your finger movements
>Riven
still remember "playing" that game with my sis, which was basically just walking around, looking at stuff and driving those rollercoasters
how do I play this game nowadays?
so then you hire a pajeet and get a game written by a pajeet?
should have made porn
You can play it in pancake mode just fine if you don't like VR.
>how do I play this game nowadays?
They released a 25th Anniversary Collection of their Early games on Steam: store.steampowered.com
This was their previous KickStarter, Riven is one of them: store.steampowered.com
As long is not programming related, if they can deliver the music/3D model/animation that you want, I don't see the problem. It is like voice acting, you don't need to hire expensive studios when you can freelancer VAs.
>As long is not programming related, if they can deliver the music/3D model/animation that you want, I don't see the problem.
As if that is going to produce the same quality as full on-site staff actually developing a game.
This game will never take off because the name is absolute shit.
might as well name it BananaDookie
I didn't like obduction that much, I don't know if they still got it
the name is bad?
there are way more games with shitty names dude, and firmament is a pretty good name because it implies the kind of astrological mysticism a person might enjoy in an adventure game
I don't support Kickstarter cancer.
You have no idea how marketing works my man.
>hey bro whatchu playin
>uhh "firmament"
>oh okay, hey dont come to my birthday party
>This game will never take off because the name is absolute shit.
>>uhh "firmament"
You know that "Firmament" is an actual word, right?
merriam-webster.com
not really an argument when games like minecraft and fornite are smash hits
You know firmament is the most boring sounding word in existence for a video game right?
You can keep trying to detract as if I don't know what a word is, or you can accept it sounds like your grandpas stool softening medicine.
A Name like "myst" gives you something to imagine.
This seems interesting and I'm pretty sure the claims about it having ntr aren't realy true but the way the devs use the word waifu bothers me.
>shitty products
pic related?
Are you Todd?
>You know firmament is the most boring sounding word in existence
>A Name like "myst" gives you something to imagine.
I'm sorry you're 10 and have never read a book, user.
Wow what cool video games you posted bro!
My opinion has totally made a 360!
Based title. Fools still think we can go in space haha
>Another scam kickstarter
Why are people even kickstarting anything at all? Just wait for the game and if it's good buy it.
There is literally no reason to waste money for this. You aren't an investor, you are literally just a cuck who has no right to get anything at all. If the dev doesn't deliver, you are out of luck and your money is gone.
Also reasons why this kickstarter will be a scam:
>useless merchandise
Sure, merchandise can be nice, but not as fucking stretch goal. Do you want to game or just some useless merchandise? This also means that a lot of money won't be used for the game.
>Welcome to an all-new, enigmatic narrative adventure
it's shit. There are so many adventures out, just play one of those
>some guy is talking in the trailer
Why are retards still do this? Are we funding this guy to hold a speech, or do we want a fucking game? Just show how far your game is without trying to "fill the gaps" with the normal scam.
Kickstarter was a mistake. The only "good" game right now on kickstarter is
kickstarter.com
But even a game which seems to be perfect has flaws. I wouldn't even pleadge for this, because Kickstarter is a scam and you aren't an investor.
Remember Star Citizen? If you haven't learned after this, I would advice your parents to hide their money from you, because no one has a job who is too stupid to understand that you never "donate" to kickstarter. Just wait for the finished game.
Also
>Will they make it?
Of course. A few hours before it over they will just pledge the last amount of money themselves. Kickstarter is such a scam because no one know if there is really hype or if the devs just fake hype. Also 5 % is so little, that most devs can just "complete" the kickstarter, because if 1000 retards paid money, they would be stupid to not just pledge money themselves to get the project over the 100 %.
Just another $380k to go so we can a free 3.5 million from Epic.
:^)
does epic store even support vr games?
>Why are people even kickstarting anything at all? Just wait for the game and if it's good buy it.
Because they want games they like to exist? Without funding this will likely never get developed. Also, they already delivered two successful KickStarters before, Obduction and Myst 25th Anniversary Collection to get all their old games working on modern systems.
>useless merchandise
There's only any "merchandise" in the $120 tiers or above, and it's well within limits.
>it's shit. There are so many adventures out, just play one of those
None of their older games were really shit.
>Remember Star Citizen?
What the fuck does Star Citizen and a bunch of idiots paying thousands of $'s for .jpg's have to do with crowdfunding overall? I backed ~10 games on KickStarter and have always gotten a working product. Some ended up being a bit disappointing, but that can happen to any normal game you buy too.
>because no one has a job who is too stupid to understand that you never "donate" to kickstarter. Just wait for the finished game.
I guess not everyone has your galactic intellect and some people may believe it's worth supporting some devs up front for a game they might like seeing and actually getting it made. A shitload of games wouldn't even exist without KickStarter, whether that's all the Isometric RPGs, Kingdom Come or some of the Adventures.
I think they already confirmed they want to release the game on Steam, GOG, Viveport and the Oculus Store.
wtf that's a nice place
absolute savage
>Now there's so much more fun for your buck than exploring mysterious, enchanted, never seen before worlds filled to the brim with interesting puzzles, art and concepts
not much to be honest
50k people can speedrun Pokemon together via chat-commands even though half of those people do nothing but fuck with the rest of the people
nice, thank you very much
