I loved the game but starting and finishing on GMGOW gave me newfound appreciation for harder difficulties locked behind completion of previous ones.

Wonderful 101 is stylized to fit the tone of the shows it is aping. The only one that legitimately looks like shit is Bayo 1.

There's also this really terrible part around 29:00 where he says the scope of the video can't include every minute detail of the gameplay (no shit) and that he isn't the end all be all authority on DMC while encouraging others to make videos in such a tone that implies he is the end all be all of informative DMC videos. What was the point of this? Was he trying to come off cheeky like he's some sort of Jordan Belfort player? This section makes him look like an asshole, a pussy, and the entire thing could be removed and it wouldn't change the rest of the video in the slightest.

How did you guys miss the point this hard? I thought it was pretty clear that the point was accepting that these games have to be somewhat budget games is a lie we've been fed for too long. They aren't a niche genre with small appeal, but the industry have pushed them into being seen as such a thing.

Not that they need to be photo realistic, or that the style they had is bad. But the general quality of the graphics can be higher (which doesn't mean realistic). A similar comparison would be Guilty Gear Xrd/DBFZ proves that a fighter on a small budget can still look really good. And that all this bullshit saying fighters have a small appeal is wrong when we can see DBFZ's sales.

The only good part of that video was the things-that-happened-while-waiting-for-sequel recap. And fuck this meme that a game has to look cutting-edge or it's somehow less of a good game. A game will only look as good as projected sales figures, that does not inform the quality of the game. In fact often wanting to sell more leads to streamlining and dumbing down.

They never had to be budget games. DMC series sold millions, Automata sold millions, KH sold millions. There's plenty of precedent for action games being AAA experiences (DMC 3+4 at the top of my head). The graphics aren't because of industry perception, they're because the only company that consistently makes these titles is Platinum, who are shitters.

Lots of games have crippled themselves by striving for photo realistic graphics (e.g. lower frame rates). That doesn't mean the games don't look good, it just means the high definition graphical style clashes with the gameplay. DMC games are almost pure gameplay games so this is a much bigger issue than it would be in a Sony walking simulator or a David Cage game or w/e.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with devil may cry but a lot of the games (99%) take place in dark areas, cathedrals, ruins and gore / intestine hallways

I already fought Vergil. A total of six times, actually, if you wanna count it that way. I would like to fight new things. Maybe a new final boss that could be cooler than Vergil 3, if Itsuno got off his laurels and stopped recycling shit. Hell, he could even leave Vergil 3 in there as some kind of secret optional boss or maybe in the bloody palace or something. But it's worthless to retread the same shit again with a new coat of paint unless you're literally a screen clapper.

Bayonetta 2, MGR, Vanquish, and especially W101 all look good to amazing. Bayonetta 1 as well but it's harmed by the washed out visuals and color palette.

Well then I'll just say 1 is a shitty game because it only has 1 playable character and fewer enemies than 5 has in a single mission. Not to mention how many times they reuse bosses instead of providing new and interesting ones.
In that sense 5 would clearly be the overall greater game don't you think?
Unless you forgot, Vergil isn't in 4 which means he hasn't been a boss since 3 which is a long fucking time ago and the game has evolved significantly since then. Its a perfect fit and if they redid him there would be a shitload more bitching overall than one fringe Yea Forums contrarian meming about how Vergil is a bad DMC boss

They looked great in action while playing it.

You see, the thing is that these sort of gimmicks in previous games in the series only lasted few minutes. Like the underwater segments in DMC1. People love to complain about them, but you can beat them in less than a minute, even if you don't really know what to do. DMC3 had the platforming with the blocks that is fucking atrocious (especially with Vergil) but it's only one room.

In DMC4, (aside from the dice mini-game) these gimmicks often take up the entire missions, as seen with the god awful M13, the one with the red portals. Or M14, where Faults constantly appear to annoy the fuck out of you. Admittedly, the campaign isn't completely filled with these gimmicks, thank god. But the general level design itself is still lackluster in comparison to previous games, especially DMC1. There's no "return to the castle" moment, where it's night time and the enviroment slowly changes into a demonic hellscape. No, it's the same old lab, forest, castle and city, in that order.

I prefer the level design of DMC5 to this, since at least every area/mission, as samey as they look sometimes, are different. If they were going to do the semi-connected world stuff that the previous games did but then completely half ass it, then what's the point? (Yes, I know is unfinished, but that's just how it is.) DMC3 kinda has the same issue, but at least it's just the last third instead of the entire second half of the game.

Too bad these gimmicks aren't fun or engaging at all. I'd rather have DMC1's frankly easy but charming puzzles as opposed to the shit DMC4 has to offer. Hell, with DMC5's less stiff jumping mechanics, I wouldn't even mind some more platforming spliced inbetween levels.
