>My mistake was thinking that video games are art: I wanted to make this game about a guy who's a piece of shit unlikable character who by the end of the game has to transform. But too many gamers when they look at this-when they play a game-they're so used to having to identify with the character, that if they play a game where the main character's unlikable or has to do some bad stuff, they immediately get triggered by it. So the thing is, games aren't art; they're toys for children and it's considered in bad form to talk about anything meaningful or thought provoking.
After all the reception and the obvious criticism from the internet, he blames the gamers for not thinking it’s art instead of his pretentious writing. The nerve of this man is maddening
Dylan Rodriguez
The game looked like shit to play so I don't think story was an issue. It would be like saying music is not an art because people didn't like listening to recording of farts.
Angel Reyes
Don't start making this thread every week, I'll fucking kill you.
David Martinez
this was already done before there are alerady games where the protagonist is clearly made to be somebody you don't want to be, some of which are I believe are available for free.
Parker Moore
5th day in a row with this thread. When a 50 Metacritic game creator is mad and lashes out, sounds like that guy who made Too Human on the Xbox 360 and quit the game industry.

Gavin Evans
why is he so upset bros?
Aaron Howard
It's been awhile since I saw a game developer get this salty. What a pretentious fuck thinking he's above the industry. He's basically saying his writing was just too good for video games.
He's not right at all. First of all, it's fucking juvenile to change what your view of art is because you've failed to reach the right people with your work. Second, his game is a piece of shit.
Aiden Thompson
Yeah no one has ever liked a terrible playable character in a video game before.
>thought provoking like a murakami novel >everyone in literature thinks murakami novels, as great and as they are, are entry level novels His writing is so simplistic and they’re really not that thought provoking, everything is so obvious. Murakami is a hardcore leftist and that shows in all of his novels
Jason Adams
But it's clearly the gamers being triggered at this work of art it couldn't be that the game is trash.
Easton Morris
Toby Fox is the best game developer in the world right now dude.
Christopher Lewis
lol what a douche. You still have to provide some sort of hook so that people are willing to sit through your 20+ hour long story. Dante starts off DMC3 as a dorky loser who acts purely out of a personal vendetta against his brother with no regard for humanity or the responsibility of his legacy, only to wake up to what he has to do due to his interactions with Lady and his experiences in the tower. Of course, we can stomach this journey because Dante also has some redeemable features that get us invested in him (such as being competent in the face of danger, not being completely callous) so that we don't drop the game after the first few missions. In YIIk Alex is clearly trying to save the girl because he has a hero complex and it gives him a selfish sense of purpose. This is a pretty good plot thread to follow, and could lead to some good character-heavy moments. Unfortunately, Alex is totally insufferable and does not improve much over the course of the story. The plot of him getting better as a person is less of a narrative arc and more of a cherry on top of the shit sundae that is YIIK. The game is like following my dormate from freshman year around, it's excruciating.
Eli Russell
>Yeah no one has ever liked a terrible playable character in a video game before.
Yeah, the following games had unlikeable main characters and they actually grew to be a decent person by the end: No More Heroes The World Ends With You .hack GU Metal Gear Solid 2 (granted it took sequels to make Raiden not shit)
Landon Lopez
I thought the framerate was garbage from other videos, but it's decent in this one. I still won't play it, though, because of
Isaiah Martinez
YIIK is like Scott Pilgrim except it's made by someone that still acts and thinks like Scott Pilgrim did before the books started.
Blake Wood
Neku is one of my fave examples of the jackass who learns to become a better person trope. He starts off the game willing to murder his own partner if it meant only he can survive but over the course of the game he gradually becomes less selfish and self-centered and actually becomes a total bro.
Robert Butler
>My mistake was thinking that video games are art Implying Yiikes is anything close to art >I wanted to make this game about a guy who's a piece of shit unlikable character who by the end of the game has to transform. so people should suffer the entire game with a unlikable, uncharismatic piece of shit MC so at the END he "transforms" and that somehow is "art"? >if they play a game where the main character's unlikable or has to do some bad stuff a lot of villains are popular, maybe it's because they are actually well written instead of "a piece of shit unlikable character who by the end of the game has to transform", there is something called "love to hate" you know. >they're toys for children and it's considered in bad form to talk about anything meaningful or thought provoking what a pretentious piece of shit, Yiikes is a shitty ripoff with idiotic writing, garbage gameplay and looks like shit but people don't like it because they are not as "mature" and superior as the almighty Yiikes dev.
Nigga you don't gotta like Undertale but acting like Toby Fox isn't the modern equivalent to Pixel amongst normalfags that pretend to care about the indie scene is just straight up lying to yourself.
Zachary Anderson
If this game didn't have so many black people in it, I'd actually be interested in playing it
Nolan Ross
Holy shit
John Green
I agree with you, but Dante in DMC3 is a terrible example. He is goofy and silly but kickass right in the opening segment, which makes him a fun character to follow through. He evolves from a character you like because of his antics to a character you actually like because he grows into a better person while still kicking ass. Neku is truly the best character for this comparison.
Brody Smith
Name one time this has happened in an actually good show / game He could have made his character a sherlock holmes and the game would still have sucked and people would have still called it bad
Nathan Roberts
Let me understand this right, help me if you can. For him, an unlikeable character is art????? That’s really what he is saying?
Jack Diaz
>webm.red/NmGo.webm Nobody is going to want to go through a game where they have to put in a bit of effort to get through mediocre game play if the story payoff isn't there. I can't hate him for trying to break the standard but it's fairly well understood in the industry that subtle story telling doesn't work when game play distracts the player.
Brayden Robinson
In a serious artistic medium, main characters are allowed to be unlikable, that's his point
Blake Parker
>Blaming consumers for not understanding your work
Among creative people this is a major red flag that this guy is a pretentious twat.
Samuel Foster
His writing is simplistic because anglos couldn’t translate jap to so save their lives. Half the time they’re just describing the writing instead of translating and the other half is dissecting the complex, never-ending Japanese sentences into retarded simple 3 word sentences that sound like a child wrote them. Also, one of the big Japanese writers “translated” his own work in a way reminiscent of a first grader’s essay on the plot of green eggs and ham, can’t remember if it was Murakami. I mean don’t get me wrong, Japanese literature is pretty bad, but it’s not as bad as EOPs think.
William Bailey
He tried to make a story about a piece of shit becoming a better person. Since the game he made completely failed at everything, now gamers are to blame for not getting it, not him for failing as an artist
John Edwards
>Name one time this has happened in an actually good show / game
What happened?
Hudson White
What's with these losers who can't take an ounce of criticism and expects success to be handed to them?
Ayden Lee
Main characters are allowed to be unlikable in games, what's not allowed is for games to be boring pretentious pieces of shit
John James
He's saying "the protagonist is unlikable" is not a criticism you would normally hear in the context of literary analysis, and the fact that it was a common criticism means his video game was consumed as a video game and not as literature. So he's upset about that.
William Ross
Name one time people reacted negatively to an unlikable main character in a good game / show to the point where it significantly affected the game's / show's sales.
Michael Thomas
Blowing his argument out of the water with a picture of a good protagonist who starts out unlikeable. Nice.

THEY HAVE NO VISION ;_; >my writing and taste is horseshit and I'm clearly biased, but if someone hates it, it's not MY FAULT! >I'm not an artist or a writer, and my game clearly shows it, but it's only fair that I get to judge an entire industry to be "toys for children" because I can't convey a story or a message without being blatant >REEEE FUCKING GAMERS
Isn't that the case with squall? He starts like a fucking emo kid straight out of hot topic. Ends up actually caring for the people, specially rinoa
Ryder Sanders
To be fair, in spite of the game being shit, he is correct. Games aren't art, they're toys and gamers are manbabies.
William Richardson
Well the point in regards to video games is that there are NO unlikable main characters in video games
Hell, video games have a hard enough time giving characters personality as it is when you have retarded nerds complimenting garbo like HL2 which has a protagonist without a personality because THEY want to be the ones getting that Alyx Vance blasian pussy
It's the best "game" example I had since I replayed recently. Can't really speak on TWEWY since since it's been a good 10 years, but I do recall Neku being really man to Shiki but still taking steps to move the plot forward.
Brody Taylor
The World Ends With You is, amongst people that actually give a shit about games beyond their pretentious need to prove their hobby isn't for children, well regarded as not only one of the best DS games but just a great game in general.
Just because he can't write a good unlikable protagonist doesn't mean people are inherently against unlikable protagonists.
Tyler Long
There are games where the main character starts unlikeable and gradually becomes a more complete person. The World Ends With You, Tales of the Abyss, Final Fantasy 7 / 8... People are not resilient to a good character arc if it's presented well, the problem is YIIK is a piece of shit.
Hudson Wright
>it's not that my work sucks >it was just too art for these plebs beneath me fucking lmao what an unlikable douche. Maybe it's him who should consider transforming into a better person.
Also in regards to unlikable protagonists, BrBad Walter White, and because TV allows for deeper characters than guy that goes "...", people loved WW

Jose Turner
Here’s the thing that good artists understand: you can’t just make your “art” and expect everyone to “get it.” You need to effectively communicate your vision and message. Some people will always misunderstand, but if nearly everyone does, then you did a bad job.
Nathaniel Jenkins
I can't stand the music alone, holy shit that's bad.

>I wanted to make this game about a guy who's a piece of shit unlikable character who by the end of the game has to transform. That seems to be the premise behind quite a few JRPGs. I mean, it certainly seems like Squeenix was thinking somewhat like that with FFXIII, although I didn't endure that game long enough to see if that rotten cast transformed into something less intolerable.
Lincoln Johnson
So the creator of the game is throwing a hissy fit that no one likes his shitty self insert character in his shitty mess of a game so he's pretending that it was all some big joke now?
Fuck off with that shit. Games can be art. No one wants to play your shitty game that can't even present a consistent UI design.
David Rodriguez
Yeah Dante was complete filth. Fun movie

I'm of the school of thought that they're their own entity and they keep getting wrong peg wrong hole'd. When a game becomes too movie or walk through like it's trended towards the movie format, but a true "Video Game" is a interactive mixed media medium, it can tell an artistic story or a endearing one but it is a product that has to take full advantage of its medium and not just slap you with cutscenes or pretentious bullshit.
With that logic I also consider something like DMCV "art" moreso than Last of Us. DMCV is a perfect symbioses of gameplay, art direction, player feedback, interactivity, and player motivation. And in indie rpgs like YIIK, LISA is also a much better example of what a game as a medium can be, since once again it synergizes the aspects of the mixed media format that it is. This is why people fucking get emotional at the end of a arcade game and you see Thank you to the Player or And You at the end, or the big Double Dragon player vs player twist (which was repeated in Splinter Cell Conviction's Coop finale really well) can have more emotional impact than some failed lib arts story.
So yes, I'd lean towards them being more toys than literature but they're not nearly low class of a product usually, till mobile gaming gacha shit hit anyway and the fun being gambling or content service delivery.
Austin Butler
4 minutes and 30 seconds for a single battle against fodder. Jesus christ

Yes, totally we criticized God of War for how bad Kratos was and didn't give the game a chance.
Or wait, we actually fucking did because the game was good and the story wasn't as important as gameplay.

I am pretty sure Bushido means Way of the Warrior other than that. I agree this looked awful and had no depth to it.
Asher Garcia
>sjws dont believe in forgiveness they don't believe in change either there are numerous cases of "feminist dykes" coming to their senses, only to be called traitorous backstabbing whores. SJW are (not surprisingly) extremely intolerant.
WE had a small discussion the last time this article was posted about why Neku works but Alex doesn’t. It was nice
Cameron Thomas
His entire argument falls so flat on its face if you just point out that the main character is a literal shameless self-insert, and the real reason that he's so upset about people not liking his character is because he views that as a personal attack.
imgur.com/a/wmYHCTx You can't look at something like this imgur album and try to defend the game as a work of art.
Yeah, Neku works because of how much the game shows him gradually changing. >Week 1 has him learning to let people in and to realize that Shiki has her own problems and issues, just like he does >Week 2 has him seeing a reflection of his old self in Joshua and realizing just how flawed his past views were and recognizing that other people have just as much value as he does >Week 3 has him putting his newfound beliefs into practice and generally being a bro towards Beat that encourages to achieve the best for himself
Mason Torres
Oh shut the fuck up you pretentious prick. You made a game and failed. Nobody cares about your sob story.
Jace White
The only thing that seemed even remotely interesting is the item caddy (I think) chick.
Characters that use items alongside their skills is kinda neat
Noah Hughes
I respect your opinion and agree they might be toys trying to step up, but will never quite be Art. Videogames are to Art what a hambeast is to a beautiful woman.
Nathan Thomas
Agreed. I think the Persona series shows the opposite ends of this spectrum well. 3 stars a cast of damaged, self-interested people who eventually gain the resolve to resist the apparent death of the human race even if it leads to their suffering. Even the protag has dialogue choices that gradually shift from being depressive to proactive (though I don't pay much attention to his character compared to the others). While flawed, the game succeeds in taking a cast where many of the party members are assholes/selfish/tools and turns them into heroes. 5, on the other hand, totally fucks this up. The entire narrative of the game is the characters hyper-focusing on their phantom thieves work with a side of sucking the protag's dick. This breeds an avenue for downfall, as the thieves are shifting over to doing things for fame rather than for the greater good. This, as well as other personal problems, results in Morgana falling out with the group. I was inititaly pretty excited for this as it was the first real shot of character the game had shown in quite a while and was addressing an issue that had been sitting in the back of my head for a couple dozen hours at this point. Unfortunately, Atlus opted to present this topic by having Morgana and Ryuji act like retards and used the the scenario to kite dungeon progress and onboard Haru, making it time wasting distraction from the main plot rather than a thoughtful upheaval of the group's dynamics. This is a clear example of how trying means jack shit, you actually have to execute, and apparently the YIIK is too butthurt to acknowledge this.
Angel Reed
For reference to everyone, here's the main character alongside a photo of the developer in question.
Jesus christ. What the fuck is wrong with the writer? What “”””””””deeper””””””” meaning was he trying to say with this?
Jacob White
Yes but they still need to be written well Alex in Yiik isn’t He’s attributing the game’s bad reception to the fact that people “didn’t get” that Alex is meant to be unlikeable but that’s not true Most people got that, they just didn’t like how he was written since he shows no signs of redeeming qualities early on. There’s a difference between the type of character who is depicted as unlikeable but with the potential to be better and a character who is hopeless. Alex is depicted as a hopeless manchild and it takes extra-ordinary, reality bending bullshit to provide him to opportunity and impetus to become a better person by FORCE. Compare that to Neku (who becomes likeable) or Joel from TLOU (whose unlikeable status is maintained for the whole game) and you can see it’s not just a matter of Alex being meant to be unlikeable by the writer
Brody Morales
He forgot to make him interesting and the game was a piece of shit. It's not that games aren't art, he's not an artist
Luis Sanchez
Well and the actions that change him aren’t that extraordinary The context around them might be but the actual events that make Neku open up are things like talking with other people for once in his life*, working together with people towards a shared goal, but also being able to just observe other people and their lives (specifically the fledgling business man comes to mind and the whole ramen shop arc)
Sebastian Scott
While this is correct, the dev is also right in denouncing the "unlikable main character" criticism as immature. An unlikable main character isn't necessarily a flaw and people default to saying this because they can't properly articulate what's wrong with YIIK's writing because they're not used to doing so (because they don't normally engage with more intellectually demanding media than games).
It's like, if I had to guess what this guy looks like WITHOUT ever even seeing that character, I would've expected these exact traits. He's a wallking stereotype
>i wanted to make the main character unlikable >100% self-insert Seems legit
Eli Peterson
5 minutes for just one encounter Jesus
Eli Young
Least the track's groovy at least, when comparing other shit in the game >all these minigames and inputs >attacks do pisspoor damage why
Oliver James
Is the entire game like this? full of some shitty inner dialogue?
I honestly wouldn't even bat an eye at that tragedy reference/mockery, but that stupid fucking brain diarrhea is just obnoxious and not even book writers go in to such "specifics" when describing thought
Lucas Richardson
But most reviews didn’t say Alex being unlikeable was the issue After all, these are the same types of reviews that likely give TLOU a pretty high score for its protagonist’s writing The issue is that all of Alex’s character development (at least the obvious stuff) comes at the end of the game with the bullshit with Proto Alex and alternate dimension Alex It’s that Alex remains pretty unlikeable until all of a sudden he learns his lesson at the end. Put another way, at least in formal reviews, most reviewers state that their issue with the protagonist’s personality isn’t that he’s unlikeable but he only learns his lesson at the end of the game and very quickly. There’s bits here and there like when they go searching for one of their dead friends’ sister In the sewers and then Alex sees some dead girls ghost later where he’s a little more compassionate but the issue is that the way Alex’s development comes about feels very unnatural cause it doesn’t actually seem like he’s internalizing anything he’s experiencing, again, until the very end
Brandon Brooks
>tries to add a little comical moment about what his friend has sent to him (because the curiousness about porn is soooooo funny xD right?) >instead uses Elisa Lam’s death to pull off the “comic” effect An actual self proclaimed writer wrote this. Someone who should know the basics of morality
Benjamin Rodriguez
What's actually offensive to me is that he's defending his game as a deep work of art when there's an entire segment of him literally getting his self insert to live out his weird waifu savior fantasy.
Cause he played games like Persona and Mother, thought they were artistic but they could be better by being tailored more to his specific and exact life experience and then gets mad when he can’t follow up the shit he admired
Gabriel Fisher
Scott Pilgrim had two complete assholes as main characters that had to change and the whole franchise was a hit
William Harris
>Toby Fox >On par with Pixel Kill yourself
Ian Davis
That's not the dev though.
Owen Reyes
Instead of getting mad, he should explain the meanings and why this game is particular is supposed to be art. Maybe people can appreciate it more. But no. It can never be art. It’s a popular thing to say but applies to this game and the writer correctly, it’s pretentious. The noise production is so bad, it makes me think the voice actors didnt redo any lines after they were done in 2014. Which makes me think they didnt have an editor to change the writing. Even the best novelists in the world still have editors, every writer does.
Gabriel Ward
Comparing Toby Fox to Pixel is a bit of a stretch, but he's certainly on the level of ZUN.
Jason Nelson
>and the whole franchise was a hit
Scott Pilgrim's box office
Isaac Russell
Why are you shilling the dick show that barely get 2000 people watching his shit videos? That dude is a cuck anyway, he used to be alright when he was the bald dude with the glasses but when I saw this cringelord sucking up to Camwhore tradthots the cringe was too much.
Aaron Powell
Always putting the blame on others, never admitting your faults. The real problem is people encourage this behavior hard now
Comparing yourself to novels that you liked don't make your work automatically as good and humility is a necessary quality for people that aren't extremely gifted. He sounds insufferable and full of himself.
Kevin Williams
What was the host supposed to do? Disagree with him, get into an argument and ultimately have to cancel the show? He did the right thing.
Jaxson Richardson
>make an unlikeable character >no one likes them >"wow i guess videogames aren't art" Your supposed to make a deeply flawed character, retard; someone with some sort of redeeming quality that endeers him to your audience. If you set off to make them "unlikable" people are just going to find them unbearable in the same way they do with irl people they dislike.
Noah James
>20 seconds for a single attack that does 18 damage
No doubt. Also, >at least Yea Forums liked the game Does he actually say that shit? If he did, this man is actually retarded.
Josiah Clark
Well and if you don’t pace out their character development well and punctuate it with key moments of progression, then people will get the impression this character is shit this shutter should read Letters from the Underground if he wants to make an unlikeable protagonist who stays unlikeable for that long
Angel Perry
If he's comparing his work to novels, then Holden Caufield was a more interesting arsehole character than Alex, even if people overfellate/hate the book
Ayden Lopez
Because he worked on something for years either in an echo chamber where nobody told him that his work was subpar or worse even, people told him and he thought he knew better. On release reality hit him like a brickwall and he can't deny it anymore because everybody and their mom know that what he made isn't special. It's tough realizing that you're nothing special.
>no one bought my horrible clusterfuck of trash >hurf durf gamers aren't my audience
Jonathan Reyes
>he's literally coping
Alexander Morales
Holden actually had a sort of reason for having arrested development and being too much of a coward to commit to anything. And he was 15-16 or some shit The issue with Alex is he’s 21-22, still acting like a child for no clear reason and it takes literal super natural shit to push him out of his funk by the end.
Andrew Harris
Amnesia's protagonist is a piece of shit. A selfish, cowardly murderer and torturer. I don't remember anyone ever being """triggered""" by him. Maybe this assclown should try making a better game instead of going >oops it's actually a medium that's shit not my game
Jose White
I think it's clear the Main character was meant to be obnoxious and pretentious, the problem is that by the end the character is almost the same pretentious retard we meet at the start, and honestly, the story wasn't that big of a problem, if you remove the constant pop gamer references, shitty memes and SJW pandering (and he tried to go neutral in some issues, but really, really soft, so he ended up with nothing) you still have a below-average story, but at least the effort shows
the problem is the actual game, without mentioning the awful artstyle in the game, the graphics are absolutely shit, there's nothing pleasing about it, it hurts my eyes, the colors are too bright, and the "pixel retro thing does not mesh well with 3D
now, the gameplay is absolute horrid, he tried to mesh so many system together that ended up with an abomination, attacks take too long, enemies have too much health, bosses are unoriginal, music is forgettable, if you have epilepsy you can say goodbye, as there are constant flashes everywhere, the minigames are not fun nor requiere skill, they are mindless task that artificially pander the game
you should all pirate and play this piece of garbage to get an example of what a real bad videogame is
What truly makes a character or story good and stand out from the masses?

I didn't play this game so I thought the whole thing was just the writer being a pretentious dick but this is disgusting. I mean yeah yeah I know this is Yea Forums but we don't pretend to be profound writers creating art when we use someone's suicide as a joke you know?
I don't much mind that he copy pasted the edgy video (even though it already shows a lack of creativity) but goddamn, that's some serious uninspired prose and comparing that to chuck palahniuk's works is comical.

I'll take making 2k a month and not being cuck who self-inserted into his game and got destroyed by anons in the internet

Is he forgetting the game itself is shit and the gameplay is atrocious? you literally spend 15 minutes with random encounters and 30 with boss fights And don't forget that tasteless "Iwata tribute"
Brandon Campbell
He has made 2 fucking games. That's what's wrong with his generation, they expect to be able to perform at the same level as people who has being working in the industry for years. The participation trophy culture destroyed their brain
>the way Alex’s development comes about feels very unnatural cause it doesn’t actually seem like he’s internalizing anything he’s experiencing, again, until the very end
Alex's character development is extremely realistic, the reason it feels "wrong" to you is because video games have given you low standards of what realistic character development actually is. Nobody is going to do a full 180 on personality ever, and Alex has lots more little moments than just the ghost girl etc.
Ian Moore

I don't understand how people can actually be mad about that, Nintendo loved it and it's on an unmarked optional grave. It's meant to be respectful while also referencing those "here lies Link" graves Nintendo liked to put in their old games, it's very cute.

He made his money back in the first week but probably didn't sell much beyond that, I'd guess the game wasn't a failure but he's pretty much back to square one in that he can't just stop making games now.
Oliver Ortiz
>he's just a retard who made a shitty game and now he's crying because no one liked it
First post gets it right yet again. This guys fucking EGO and PRIDE are completely out of hand. I don't understand why these sort of people can't just admit they made a bad game and move on? They think they have to justify their work no matter what and in this case that means he has to literally shit on every other game.
He's ironically acting like a literal fucking child.
It's not about morality it's about being creatively bankrupt and literally using your self insert videogame as a medium to live out your 'rescue the poor damsel' fantasies.
Jackson Wood
Games are already an Art form, the difference is that he's making a pretentious, stereotypical idea of an "Art Form."
He could have taken all the things that defined the 90's, but not force it in aesthetic and design.
Jaxon Perry
A Confederacy of Dunces
Blake Wright
he deleted it because they didn't pay him

I ain't pirating that shit nigga.

>I wanted to make this game about a guy who's a piece of shit unlikable character
So it WAS a self-insert
Hunter Powell
The fuck are you talking about? The issue is that Alex’s development DOES seem to be a 180 >had lots more little moments The issue with the little shit like that is that it could just as easily be a part of his core character Alex’s issue is arrested development, he’s incapable of handling the responsibilities of being an adult, both to his friends and family as well as to the world at large. The biggest issue with the little moments is they’re ambiguous enough that they could just as easily be a part of his default personality. He’s not a sociopath in the beginning, just childish. Very few of the bits before the end feel like they contradict that childishness
>WAAH WHY DID THEY NOT TREAT ME LIKE A SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE Based retard
Parker Turner
You're forced to make Alex apply for jobs as part of the plot and near mid/end game he admits he's not actually good at anything useful. I'm not sure how else you'd want the game to communicate he's growing up while also keeping its theme, because him being childish is the entire point of the game.
Yes but then the progression would be that he becomes less childish over the course of the game He gets better at the end but that’s the issue everyone complains about: he only get better and develops Very quickly at the end. Put another way, it would be that hard to have him slowly edge into being more mature by having him do the job applications at the 1/3 or 2/3 point At the point where he admits he’s not good at anything should have been the point where he starts trying to change that
Kevin Powell
Raiden in MGS2 was built from the ground up to trigger and emasculate Snake fanboys.
Michael Roberts
>I wanted to make a Chuck Palahniuk or Haruki Murakami novel as a videogame Holy shit, and the best he could come up with is the superficial trappings of "bruh it's like real life but like everything's weird and supernatural but nobody talks about it"? What a pathetic excuse of a pseud, neither of those writers have literally any works where a dick has to learn to be nice. His shit's on the level of a gag-a-week manga and he has the audacity to call it "deep" because there's allegedly a "be nice to your friends" message. Has he ever actually substantiated any of these literature comparisons he keeps namedropping?
Mason Butler
It’s a lot like a lot of games that want to be philosophical: take the ideas of someone else and just adapt them.
Jaxson Flores
The job applications are at roughly the 1/3 point, admitting he's not good at things is at the 2/3 or so and there's stuff between that. I haven't really played the game since it came out but it's pretty clear you guys haven't seen any of the game besides the very end/golden alpaca. Also keep in mind the Panda is his conscious, so whenever the Panda is shit talking him that's how he really feels about himself.
Jaxon Lopez
Only sociopaths can empathize with piece of shit characters who go unpunished.
Brody Gray
I thought the job application stuff at the 1/3 point was the bit where he freaks at his mom and then the bit at the end is him doing it on his own?
Henry Perry
Gundam is full of evil pilots that arent punished and people fucking love that franchise
Joshua Williams
He doesn't freak out on his Mom, he gets his shit together internally to stop himself from doing that and goes to apply for some jobs. Nothing ever comes of it though because his Mom randomly disappears and appears as an indicator something is off.
Samuel Williams
lol what a baby, also I'm pretty sure Luke fon Fabre is exactly what he's describing yet he's one of the most loved characters in the jrpg genre, his game just sucked and he's crying about it
Imagine having this much of an ego, I wish california would just leave the union
Benjamin Young
I loved Haseo, guy was hilarious
David Jackson
>violent in general >kills several supporting characters >lives an gets a cushy job bodyguarding a loli at somepoint Based aussiebro
This game is the typical product of some self-absorbed douche who hates videogames.
Lucas Baker
Is this what hell looks like?
Luis Baker
he'd have an argument if the character wasn't an unlikeable piece of shit even at the end
Ayden Thomas
>I wanted to make this game about a guy who's a piece of shit unlikable character who by the end of the game has to transform. Chaos;head?
Robert Martinez
This. Game’s shit.
Mason Hernandez
i can give LiS a pass since the main character is literally a 16 year old girl the yiik protag is a mid 20something. He's supposed to be an adult
Ryan Fisher
>i can give LiS a pass since the main character is literally a 16 year old girl Does her age even matter if the character never develops at all?
Asher Gray
REPLICAAAAAAAAAAA
Camden King
>make game trying to please trannies and faggots >end up get shit on by everyone including trannies and faggots >"i disavow white ethnostates" Guess what?If you hadn't you would at least have one side not shitting on your crappy game
The whole game felt like white video gaming groups that are obsessed with Doctor Who, browsing Reddit, and watch reruns of The Office on repeat. Not my type of group, and definitely not my type of game.
Ryder Fisher
>I-I made the protag a piece of shit on purpose so he could develop >even though no one ever confronts him about it >or he ever evolves as person >watch me namedrop books because I'm smart, everyone else is stupid and doesn't GET it >ugh GAYMERS amirite >BUY MY GAME
Games are a form of art, in the same sense that any sort of media is. We know this already. Is YIIK art? That's subjective. It's also irrelevant.
The problem this guy has is that he seems to be under the impression that as long as it ticked the big 'Is Art' box then that is all it needed to be to be successful.
But it wasn't and now he's sour grapes over the whole medium because nobody understood his genius.
It's nobody's fault but your own that you weren't able to realise your vision, Andrew. It's not doing you any favors to throw a tantrum about it.
Kayden Moore
oh for sure i remember being exactly like him and just as worthless that's exactly why i hate his guts He's everything i worked very hard NOT to be and spent years and years trying the argument that he grows or changes in any way is fucking laughable just because he gained a small sense of humility at the end. He's still a narcissistic, selfish, unfunny, meddling douchebag, now he just feels a bit bad about it
Liam Murphy
i mean i would argue max does grow a bit but yeah if you personally didn't see the growth that's fine
Jason Morris
What did she learn, other than yurishit?
Xavier Wilson
I actually prefer having unlikable protags if they're done in an interesting way. One of my favorite movies is the original Bad Lieutenant for cripe's sake but you know what I hate niggers so fuck this thread and the jannies *dabs on nigger jannies and op and reddit and hiro and 9gag and trump and hillary and muller or whatever the fuck his name is and his gay report and obama and america and europe and china and video games and twitter and elon musk and weebs and you and me and dupreee and sjws and altright and altleft and libtards and repoopicans and niggers again really hate niggers and god and jesus and f is for family and bojack horseman and lol so randumb xd and 2008 and niggers*
William Powell
her actions have consequences and she can't be a passive observer
Elijah Morales
This is true. Just look at all the incels ITT getting triggered.
Andrew Turner
no he isn't there are plenty of games where the protagonist is unlikeable but gets better over time. Tales of the Abyss is one of many
this dipshit is just so stuck up his own ass that he can't accept that his game is complete and utter shit from both a "fun" perspective and an "art" perspective
Not being a passive observer and abusing her powers are exactly what caused everything.
Owen Perez
Teen Titans Go
Luis Barnes
This game was nothing but a modern art version of a video game. It was shittly written, badly produced and devoid of meaning. Just like this "beautiful" modern art picture i found. He is only trying to play the angle that we "don't get it" because all it is when you boil it all down is a bag of fucking trash.
What a petty asshole throwing a tantrum at us because he failed to do what he intended. Fuck you too, buddy.
Jace Campbell
>Both endings involve her passively observing
Lol
Jordan Richardson
>Travis >Badass
???
Hunter Martinez
>Godzilla Which one? The original, 1985, the 1998 one, or 2014?
Austin Johnson
He is that but there is a grain of truth to it too. It's not just about games but people seem to be completely incapable of distancing themselves from the protagonists in media in many cases. Like how those retarded college students got triggered by Seinfeld being too problematic because the main characters were assholes even though that;s the whole point of the premise.
Cameron Sanchez
Cry harder incel
Ethan Long
The original Bad Lieutenant. The whole movie is taking the loose cannon cop on the edge archetype and shoving it in your face on how much of a despicable piece of shit they'd be in real life.
Zachary Morgan
Scott pilgrim was 2008~2010. It was a very different cultural era as ridiculous as that sounds
Jose Powell
The worst part is he just steals from so many games while trying to pass as a meaningful artist. Kinda like the TLJ of videogames.
Dylan King
He has a point, and it's the only point he has, that people tend to place too much weight in characters being likeable. That's how you get nothing but bland self inserts.
