I love speedruns. However I don't want to talk with the retards and contrarians of Yea Forums. So that's why.

There's threads here during GDQs but I haven't watched one in many years since they became more about money than about speedruns.

Because speedrunning is only done by autists.

The only fun speedruns to watch are TAS speedruns that break the game.

I watched them during the 2012-13 siglemic/cosmo era. Cosmo's wind waker and castlevania runs were peak comfy.
Now I just watch the marathons with my Yea Forums friends.

I've watched recent GDQs and they've had interesting runs. You don't have to donate, obviously. I never have.

Most normal speedrunning breaks the game too. Any% categories, where glitches are fully allowed, are usually the most popular categories.

Speedrunning seems like a waste to me. I play games to have fun, not rush through.

I think most of the speedrunners I have ever watched have been pretty normal people. It's only a tiny minority who are fucking weirdos. And therefore surely it is better to judge the weirdos individually, rather than speedrunning as a whole.

Yeah I don't rush through either, so I would probably never get into speedrunning myself, but it is still pretty cool watching a game that you know and like being completely broken and completed as quickly as possible. It shows you things that you never knew were possible. It usually shows you a lot about how the games are made too, and how they work internally.

I'm currently watching the Halo CE Legendary WR by GarishGoblin. I haven't watched any Halo 2 runs but maybe I will. I completed that game on legendary recently and I forgot how good it was. I think I prefer the campaign to Halo CE - obviously some people will disagree but I think I do. The story is pretty awesome. Halo CE's campaign drags in places.

I mainly watch ZFG (who holds the 100% record in OoT). Sometimes I watch other Zelda runners like EnNopp, Fuzzyness, RichardSage, Linkus, Gymnast, etc. And sometimes I watch Super Metroid runs done by Behemoth and Zoast.

I did two full playthroughs of Prey with only Human then Typhon powers but I couldn't be arsed doing a third no powers playthrough so I just copied some speedunning video and completed it in 20 minutes and got my platinum.

FrankerZFG is pretty cool, so is Daddy ennopp.
Zoast used to be good but he started falling for the "everyone who disagrees with me is trolling" meme.
Linkus is made of low audio levels.

Watching someone really good play through a game is fun, I've watched a guy do pointless stylish action in Dishonored and that was awesome.
When I watched people speedrun it's glitching through the walls to skip the game and that's just not interesting to me.

In programming you have to actually think and work out challenging problems. In speed running you're just trying to hit keys in the same order as precisely as you can. Why not learn an instrument instead is anyone's question but if they are happy living off twitch donations and dying homeless in 20 years when no one gives a fuck then it's their choice.
