Yeah this shit's not working anytime soon. Still though. This is basically a dream scenario. Full code for the game as it was when it died. I don't even care how long it took to get here. I believe they made a mission later in the game with those guys, just for the badge hunters. I still remember farming the one that spawns in the high level pvp zone though.
He's released everything except the client file because it still has shit that ties back to the dev that gave him to it but he's working to scrub it all out and get it to us. At the same time, community devs are just bruteforcing the i24 client to run it.
Achievements, basically. There are a zillion of them, and some of them are incredibly rare. Accomplished players on the main game could have spent half a decade hunting badges and still not have some of the rarer ones.
As soon as he releases the rest of the files, you can live happy knowing that the servers will never completely die out again.

Cheevos basically, that let you equip titles under your name. There are many different types, exploration badges you get for finding specific areas, badges for beating a certain amount of certain types of enemies, badges for completing certain challenges, etc.
There are meta badges that involve earning multiple other badges that, when acquired, provide permanent bonuses to your character, or even give you a new power to use. Some of them are absolute nightmares to acquire.

Test server capped at 200 players, pretty unstable. Unless you want the authentic MMO-on-launch-day experience where you constantly battle the login servers instead of actual enemies in-game, you're probably better off waiting a month or two for an actual server.

City of Heroes was the base game. You are correct, City of Villains was eventually released as a standalone expansion. However it was all part of the same game. Villains played on the same servers as heroes and fought each other in pvp areas. Then when the Going Rogue expansion hit they introduced the morality system and you were able to go back and forth between hero and villain and play all the content instead of just your side. Despite CoV being standalone, it was all a part of the same game.

You can play both. A later expansion added the ability to change your character's alignment, or become a "Vigilante" or "Rogue" which are essentially Heroes that have access to Villain zones and can join teams doing Villain content, or vice versa. Changing your alignment requires you to purposefully pursue alignment-changing missions and do a bunch of them before unlocking a chance to change your alignment.
Current private server is up to date to the last patch, which was in beta and never hit live, as well as tons of content that was in development that the host got a hold of when he was given the assets (new archetype, powers, etc)

With proper slotting you could permahover with movement speed that was decent enough to move around any map and reduced the endurance cost to almost nothing. It gave a little boost to your evasion rate too, so putting slots in it was actually worthwhile once you could get the endgame dual enhancements and optimize it to increase its defense as well.

Just had a solid 1.5 hour game sesh with this. It’s nigh near perfect. Some of the spawn rates for some mission mobs take a long time, and the task forces/LFG strike missions don’t queue up for some reason.
Overall, it’s back. It’s fucking back. It’s so fucking fun to play and puppeteer my minions as a master mind. I remembered all the commands and glitches from when I first played and it’s all still there. I never thought I’d see the day. Just keep mashin the login button, you’ll get in eventually. Just remember this is a big test. It’ll most likely wipe until we get something more stable to take on more ppl.

Harder to balance I guess. The difference between teams having them and not having them can be night and day. Plus its easier to fit in slots for pure supports like that when group sizes are larger by default. Most MMOs these days have group sizes of 5 or so which limits the amount of roles.
Heard empathy is shit and buffing is way more important than healing as a healing specialist isn't much better than consumables
CO is legitimately the ugliest game I have ever played.
Sure the graphics are better than CoH, but there's fucking like 0 art cohesion, model quality all over the place, and godawful map design.

mmos used to be about not getting everyone killed and now they are about dps races
for example it used to be easy for dps to pull agro off of tanks, the mark of a good dps was his ability to not do this, to sense when he needed to pull back. Now the mark of a good dps is how high he can make his damage meter go.
CC classess are no longer needed when the challenge is simply beating an enrage timer in a scripted fight.
It's not shit per-se. It just got heavily powercreeped by a combination of better tools in other sets, and the tools unique to emp(like the aura powers) becoming less and less valuable.
If you really have to have a "pure" healer for concept though, it's still the best one for that.

For reference, running the Sewers with a group was/is one of the fastest ways up to level 10 or so from level 1.
Praetoria is an AU with a storyline that ties together with the shit going on between them and Primal Earth.
It's basically an alt start for roughly the first twenty levels or so(you can stay longer, but that's around when the storylines let you head over to primal as well.)

You can go in at lvl 1 although I'd wait until lvl 2 so you can go in with an additonal power because you'll be in there until like lvl 10 without being able to train, and it's probably the fastest way to lvl 10ish.

Yes. It'd be difficult but definitely not impossible for damn sure. We've enough at this point to bust our backs for it if absolutely necessary. Doubtful it will get that bad but it'll be possible. In the very least, this puts SEGS lightyears ahead of where they were, as they had the ability for functioning NPCs and the like already anyways. Then again, they're purists for their emulation and won't be using the source directly, but analyzing it should give them exactly the sort of ideas they need to create their ideal emulation. It's distinctly possible that we may have two to three types of servers in the future: Emulations, Sources and Modified Sources (SEGS, i24 and i25).

Yeah no it isn't.
Hover is still really good for "combat flight", if you give it a couple slots for speed and endurance reduc, since fly proper is an end hog and nerfed heavily when in combat.
Combat jump was always a staple more for its +def(and for ATs without stat protection, immob resistance). Lots of melee builds use it to help top off their defenses.

But I can tell you about the other one I want to use if I can't get the first right. His name is The Nippler. A demon, about eight feet tall that sort of resembles a Japanese Oni in a tiger stripe loin clothe. He has bright red nipples that shoot fire (in the old high school comic I made him for years ago anyway, don't know if nipple flames are possible.) and has red horns and yellowish skin with shark teeth and a big tengu nose and mega chin.
I used to draw him with purple Vegeta hair because he was partially based on a treasure troll toy I had. His appearance is an inside joke between my cousin and I.

There's lots of weird things to see if you hunt around. Exploring's actually encouraged by badge collection, since each zone has a bunch of "landmark" badges to find and collect.
Exploring can also land you face-first in a giant monster mess you weren't planning for too though, so even overleveled it's not neccesarily safe when you're unfamiliar with what may or may not be fucking around that zone.
when you start, run over this this girl and pick up all the free stuff you can get. the inherent fight powers really help if you're a class that can skip those for better powers.
Couple people mentioned invisible pool had a 30 sec nothing can touch you including healing which would work. Was definitely gonna run teleport and unsure if intangibility is what they were talking about but I intend to try.

People are trying to upgrade the code to work better with modern tools and such, and the test server that everyone is playing on is the testing grounds for it. Give it some time.
It's not as easy as you just open the folder and double click some exes on your desktop. The game is massive spaghetti code and requires two physical servers and a fuckton of setup. It's possible someday but it'd take someone with a lot of know how. Also I don't think the mission and NPC database is public yet. You can build that with the source but that'd take months and even more know-how required.

You can custom color powers, but not change the actual FX(so if you're blasting flame you can't blast hearts or some shit instead, though you can throw green or purple fire or whatever the fuck.)
There's a ton of powersets for all the different archetypes though, so you either gotta be more specific, or go hit up paragon wiki.

There's no beast transformation powers but there's a Alien transforming race. Although on this server there's a new set of powers called Savage Melee and Savage Armor. You could make a beast humanoid character with those, and just costume swap to "transform." There's also a beast summoning set. And also I think there might be some cosmetic beast form travel powers.
You are limited to two colours per power but you could make them all different colours to look rainbowy

It's based from primary and secondary color blending, so you can make two-tone stuff, but not rainbow, no(maybe someone'll mod it in the future to expand options).

It's not an impossibility, but the primary goal of a lot of people working on the server right now is to get a "vanilla" i24 client up and running and stable. After that, who knows. This scene could balloon into many different servers with different custom content.

You can always go to the paragon chat server to make costumes and save them to copy over when you finally log in to SCORE. Those costumes are saved in your user's roaming appdata folder under paragon chat.

There's a class called Tanker, Rock Armor is the most superfluous defense set in the game with Granite Armor. Provided you don't come across the few enemies that do psychic damage.

If you get the Disconnected From Map Server glitch after zoning into Atlas, your character will not be able to be saved unless you can get them to switch Atlases. A zone copy number closing when it becomes full leads to corrupted character connections when attempting to zone back in.

I had pretty much every badge in the game before closing. Just needed some of the "Master of -" ones which are extremely difficult
once you get to level 50 farming badges is pretty easy and if you keep some missions you can set the difficulty to include bosses and usually farm them that way

You can once you hit I think level 20. Heroes can become Vigilante's and choose to either go full Villain or stay Vigilante. Same with Villains who can go Rogue and either stay that way or become a Hero. Can only happen once every 5 days though.
