ITT: predict the gimmicks of the remaining dlc characters
ITT: predict the gimmicks of the remaining dlc characters
BODY SLAM
I think the dev team needs to realize that not every newcomer needs gimmicks to be fun to play
Investigation Mode/Trial Mode/Turnabout Mode
BASED AND WUMPAPILLED
> Byleth (FE): Switching characters on the fly, like Pokemon Trainer
> Sora (KH): Multiple Drive Forms, similar to Shulk
> Amateratsu: Paint Brush as attacks, not sure how it works though
> KOS-MOS: Hilbert Attack, Hilbert Effect, Arms change into Machine Guns & Rocket Launchers
it's all they have left
This desu, it feels like Sakurai needs every new character to stand out way too much.
It's nice that he's trying to make them as close to their original game as much as possible, but it's just really not needed in some cases, like Joker.
is legit realistic at this point.
>digivolves to greymon and then wargreymon as he deals out damage throughout the match
>final smash: digivolves to omegamon, who slashes his grey sword across the stage a couple times
I mean it worked in UMVC3, it was hype as shit.
banjo plays like how shovel knight does in rivals of aether.
collect eggs, jiggys and feathers that spawn on the map randomly/when you hit an opponent and it acts as ammo required to use his special moves.
I'll just put down some ideas I have, rather than characters I for sure think will get in.
>Steve: A crafting/inventory mechanic would be such a love letter to Minecraft. Some youtuber made an excellent moveset revolving around this mechanic and it could really do wonders.
>Cuphead: Use the card system for his specials, giving you the opportunity to either do multiple special attacks or one giant attack that can btlfo of anyone. You'd of course charge these moves by attacking, like in the game.
IDK, I don't think every character has to have some kind of special gauge or mechanic, but if it could be done, it should. I absolutely adore what they did with Joker and it only goes up from here.
poise
Final Smash is him jumping on one of those miniguns you find in Gangster TV or War Channel and shooting at the other players.
It's not even close to the original game. Persona never utilized a comeback meter.
Level up system
>"Generals"—long-term, recurring threads about a specific game—should be posted in /vg/.
>Sophia the III
>Jason can hop out and attack while Eve drives
>However Jason is extremely light and easily launched when out of SOPHIA
>Eve isnt as quick with attacks as when she and Jason are both piloting nor as accurate
>Depending on skin, Jason and Eve switch roles but have the same attacks
>Sophia is heavy but not super heavy
>Each special is a different sub weapon
>Side B Missiles
>Down B Drill
> Up B is Hover
>Final smash is Acceleration Blast
>Reimu
Majority of characters gimmicks aren’t new, it’s just their character and the series they come from
>literal who weebshit
Ew
Amatarasu is the only good character on this list
Limited supply of eggs and feathers, kind of like Robin's books.
He'll have moves that don't do damage if you're standing still
>how to make the meta revolve around a single character: the image
I like it. It has to reset upon losing a stock though.
Sans: Double the damage is done to Sans compared to other fighters, but most of his attacks deal longer lasting damage.
Doomguy: Rage meter up to eleven that makes him faster and makes his non-specials stronger at higher percentages.
Chosen Undead/Solaire: Estus Flask that can be used once a stock.
Leon Kennedy: Limited ammo and explosives.
>Leon being a version of Snake that has to keep a budget
This gauge has nothing to do with his series, his real gimmick would’ve been like rosalina’s
Technically his persona buffing him is something from his game since doing that is important, but there's certainly no charge meter you have to use there.
I would have rather had his Down special change between Arsene, Jack Frost and no persona. and doing so augments his other 3 special attacks for a limited amount of time before he reverts to Base Joker again.
Leon:
>Fuck My Sister (FMS): Chris Redfield will sometimes come onto the stage asking Leon to fuck his sister. The Meter It always stay at 0.
having a bird in their backpack
Characters i want
Travis Touchdown - preferably no gimmick, but maybe he'll have to keep his laser sword charged
Hatsune Miku - some kind of rhythm gimmick for attacks
Characters that are basically confirmed to be in
Frisk - some mercy mechanic where evading attacks while not dealing damages helps frisk in some way, preferably no gimmick
Steve - Can place blocks or something, not too different from Pac-Man's fire hydrant.
he became the most technical character that just can't really compete with the standards. his shit would just eat lasers.
>collectables on the battlefield to restock ammo
yes please.
It's been done. Why else would Ness be so floaty?
>MP
>MP is spent on special attacks, regenerates by shielding, perfect shield regenerates more
>Specials are powerful but cannot be used without sufficient MP
>Leveling Up
>Character gains exp by KOing opponents
>Gaining levels improves equipment and power, with each level granting one bonus like more speed, power, weight, etc
>Loses a level each time they are KO'd
>Link Specials
>Special attacks link into each other and change depending on the order they are used
he jumps with his brain, he only sells chickens to make a quick buck from his backpack.
>Any Undertale character
>basically confirmed to be in
I'm an Undertale fan and you're fucking crazy
Breast expansion based attacks, final smash is getting fucked in the ass by a horse and then squirts the semen all over the opponent
Banjo: Down B counter to build up the jiggy gauge and unlock Kazooie
Doom Guy: Down B counter to build up the slayer gauge and unlock the berserk pack
Crash Bandicoot: Down B counter to build up the woah gauge and unlock spinning
Erdrick: Down B counter to counter attacks with his sword
Here's a fix:
Hit towards anyone - 3%
Hit towards Reimu - Instant Death
Make the hitbox a little smaller too.
Chris and Jill will be able to shoot powerful and fast projectiles, but they'll aim really slowly and it'll be limited to an ammo counter next to their health
I'm really sick of the full on gimmick movesets.
Being able to summon Arsene is a kind of fun mechanic but I hate how you can't control it manually and that you lose it and the gauge when you lose a stock.
Joker without Arsene sucks to play and Joker with Arsene is annoying to fight. Would've been better if it was balanced to him always having him out, it's not like that wouldn't have been a unique character. Characters that have periods where they're unviable are just kind of lame. It's a similar problem with Robin, who I also wanted to main.
I could see the hitbox thing working for real if it was toggled by a specific move, sorta like this
>Reimu's up special
>she becomes translucent and her hitbox becomes visible
>works sorta like Lucas's PK Thunder but she IS the projectile
>she will auto dodge (graze) any small to medium projectiles while in this state
>takes extra damage from close ranged attacks and big projectiles (think Samus's full charged blast)
>can stay in the air for much longer by grazing
>can press B to cause a small explosion and end the attack on her current location (decent knockback)
It would reward evasion without making her flat out broken
They're black
>without making her flat out broken
Please never balance a game ever
Final smash reminds you of Halloween at Rip Taylor's
Damn, that's pretty sad how dedicated you've been to that character. Did everyone just filter his name?
>I could see the hitbox thing working for real
You haven't had to play against a lot of Pichus, have you?
Literally just have his down B summon him for a limited time, and have the gauge be replenished from him doing attacks. Down B while he's out sacrfices everything in the gauge for a powerful AOE explosion.
>Getting your persona is supposed to be your OH SHIT MOTHER FUCKER LETS GOOOO moment
>In reality you just burn it chasing the other guy around because they know you'll lose it a minute
What would make for a good Sora gimmick? A shared MP gauge for his specials like Robin's magic? Or a drive form gimmick like that of Shulk?
Yes, fuck counters. I don't know why they made his gauge mechanic involve a counter because as far as I remember the only counter mechanic in P5 is the passive skill and that doesn't even affect SP. And out of the vast array of spells Persona has, Tetrakarn and Makarakarn are maybe the least unique they could have chosen by far.
Joker's decently fast, and his attacks come out rather quickly, making run and dodge tactics iffy at best. Better to take him on, disable him through grabs, and keep the pressure on. Despite his speed, Joker's attacks are quite directional (except his up smash and using the Guncrobatics), meaning if you're quick you can punish him in relative safety.
I'm not the quickest player though, so I tend to get trounced.
If you are not gonna say anything meaningful them might as well not say anything.
I can't see how they are comparable. The recovery move would have predictable patterns and ultimately be a high risk high reward move, lot's of freedom to move around but at a price.
Seriously how has no one told Sakurai that the counters are way overboard? Just stop. JUST FUCKING STOP.
Shared MP with a quick spell change button. Super Smash Flash 2 got the right idea.
Banjo&Kazooie
>side smash attack involve Banjo punching, with Kazooie jabbing with her beak simultaneously. Kazooie's beak reaches farther than Banjo's fist, however does not deal knockback and does heavy shield damage with tipper effects
>make eggs side special, and give each egg different properties
>hold 'B' to cycle through eggs
>blue eggs have average properties, with fast fire rate
>fire eggs have slower fire rate, less knockback, obviously deal fire damage and goes through fire
>ice eggs similar fire rate to fire, have freeze mechanic
>grenade eggs have slowest fire rate, but deal most damage and highest knockback
>clockwork kazooie eggs dispatch the clockwork kazooie similar to bowser jr. down special
>you know which eggs you have equipped based on the sounds from banjo-tooie, the effect that shows on kazooie's beak during the attack animation, and possibly an indicator on the character icon at bottom of screen
>up special involves flight, with the option to perform beak bomb in a straight line
>final smash pays tribute to three Banjo-Kazooie games
>the due launches forward with kazooie striking with her magic wrench
>using the wrench, kazooie traps those caught in the attack in the Hag1, from banjo-tooie
>quickly after, the Hag1 is destroyed by being struck from the mighty jinjonator
>the scene is no longer than than joker's final smash
Dante: Down B counter to build up Devil Trigger gauge
They do it because it's literally the easiest thing to program. Notice that everyone who can counter are people who otherwise have limited movesets.
Joker is fun and i'm glad he's here but you can REALLY tell they struggled with making him.
Make Bond's smile wider
With all the "epic memes" about sans, it got me thinking about who would actually get in from Undertale and its Frisk 100%.
Had an idea where your choices in the stock determine if he;ll be. He starts off with a balance of attacks/dodges and the more you dodge the more dodge type moves you get, the more attacks the more attacks you get (losing dodges). If you dodge enough without attacking you can "spare" someone. The nitty gritty would have to be carefully balanced but I liked it.
The idea of a moveset that develops over time sounds neat but I fear that a pacifist moveset would just reward stalling.
I feel like he's been legitimately out of ideas since Smash 4. In Brawl there were only 4 characters with a counter, now it's like 17, nearly a quarter of the roster.
Counters are justified for a few characters but there's absolutely no reason why Ike, Corrin, Lucario, Greninja, Little Mac, Palutena, K. Rool and Joker should have counters.
Which is retarded because Joker has a treasure trove of moves to pull from. They didn't do him justice at all. They just gave him a super basic moveset where almost all of his moves seem directly poached from existing characters, then tacked on a gimmick gauge that has nothing to do with his own game. Anyone who has played Persona 5 could have designed a better moveset. Given how long they took to make him and how much effort was put into his non-moveset related stuff, It's hard to understand what the thought process was.
It basically is stalling, that's what you do in undertale. There's room to add layers, maybe you gotta stall while working a menu to choose the right options and it's high risk.high reward with the opponent being forced to chase hard.
>Faulty Programming - Claptrap's attacks have a random chance to glitch out. The more damage he's received, the more frequently these glitches happen, and they can have a randomly positive or negative effect on his attacks.
Holy shit, thanks for reminding me why I haven't bought the pass
I'd hypothetically just buy Ammy alone
Real talk fucking persona being reped was the biggest mistake they did with that shit. Since what they should have done instead was just put in an SMT rep from the mainline games. Since if they did they could have had another Pokemon trainer esqu character with the protags from the mainline games or even spin offs being shown as well as a small sampling of the most popular demons. Like hell they could have gone all out or lazy with that shit super hard with having different demons for each protag but all use the same move set or just be lazy and just put some jack family demons for all with final smash being some black frost shit.
Seriously such a lame as waste for the slot going to specifically a persona character instead of it being a SMT rep as a whole instead. Like really after trying joker for a tad he just so dang underwhelming and boring as shit all things considered with his lame as gimmick needing him to take some actual damage to use. Fucking lame
Whats SMT? Persona is hella popular, what does that have to do with some other series?
The pick wasn't their mistake, the design process was.
Arle does more damage for each additional combo she does to you
Modern smash is a cashgrab before anything. They put in a rep from the most recent game of the best selling series because $$$
Explain the plant.
Some kind of Down-B Counter or defensive maneuver that temporarily unlocks the character's gimmick pretty much like Joker. I'm so fucking tired of the Down-B Counters and other defensive techniques desu, majority of them are so bland and uninspired
Yeah, like Simon Belmont, Ridley, and King K. Rool. Just Zoomer picks.
Base roster and free DLC.
of the ultimate newcomers, only Joker, Inkling, and maaaaybe K. Rool have "gimmicks". I really don't mind 6 or 7 characters out of 80 having a special gauge or something.
Sword user of eastern origin that has a down b counter
>Edea (Bravely Default): Class change triggered by using certain moves, such as using ^+B recovery switching to Valkyrie which has strong mobility, holding B charging a spell attack and switches to Black Mage. All non-switching button combos are swapped during the change, so each class has differing normal attacks (Black Mage has ranged spells when using A button combos, other classes have applicable ones for their own). Classes have different speeds, weights, and resistance to attacks.
>Doomguy: Can pull out different weapons from his series as usable items. Weapons can be knocked out of his hands like normal items and used by others, and can run out of ammo.
I can't really think of any for Banjo.
Oh, so it's just the DLC that's a cash grab now?
whooaaaa
>DMC 1 Dante: Down special switches between alastor and ifrit which changes his moveset entirely, alternatively;
>DMC 4 Dante: Style switching to change specials
Make sure to give either a style meter even if it's only aesthetic
When doomguy gets damaged or does big damage his portrait animates
Jill will have the item screen UI appear above her and heal a little bit of damage with herbs. It will work kinda similarly to WFT deep breathing
Replace her shield with focus, where the hitbox shrinks and she performs extended airdodges that you can curve
I like this post have a (you)
Style switching
POISE BOIS
Motherfucking Max Payne activating Bullet Time like Bayonetta
>Doomguy
Rage meter like macs but itd with smash attacks
>Chosen undead
Rolls dont exhaust
Recharging his beam katana and/or Switching between Beam Katanas
>he changes style by taunting
Would they have the balls to use the charging animation from the games?
Quote can gain levels on their guns like in the game. Loses exp on hit, resets each stock. Include nemesis's reverse properties along with it
Steve can place blocks
Would he have a down+b counter that spawns resources
Down B is place block under yourself
