Basically yeah, grid, and autistic patience. When I need something to be symmetrical I count how many pixels on the x and y axis I need with the grid to place my lines on with the free hand tool. It takes a while but it's worth it for smoother stages

That's actually really good! they can come out still nice if you do them like that, but you run into problems if you draw the layer you actually walk on like that. My first two I made were like that and now when I play on them you constantly crash into the floor just trying to run on it when there are ledges or raises in height

I've made about 30 stages now with it and have learned a lot of things the game hides from you while doing so. First off, if you want smooth lines, don't draw it directly by dragging on your screen. Use the free hand tool, and drop points where you want the lines to be then let them fill. Think of it like connect the dots or constellations. It takes time, but the results are worth it.

If you want a platform that you can fall through, make it one 'pixel' thick, by using the free hand tool

If you want to change the layer that something is in, select it with the edit tool. Then press R or L, while holding that, you can shift their layer with the directional pad. This is a good way to make things that will be hidden behind other layers, by making them in the front layer how you want them, then put them where they belong after.

No problem, I hope they can help! That one really caught me by surprise, I couldn't believe they don't tell you about it, it's hidden and only says it's a thing you can do for a brief second if you are holding R / L, it's essential though. It's a godsend if you screw up and draw something on the wrong layer, which happens to me often

Another tip I can think of is, if you want to draw something on top of another object, in the SAME layer. You have to approach it in order. The objects you place will always cover the ones before them, no matter what. So this Phantoon for example, you would draw something like that by doing them in layers too. The main body was the yellow circle first, then another red circle, a white, then the black in that order to make the eyes. If I did that in any other order, it would not work.

I have not tried editing while docked yet so I am not sure if that works while using a controller or not. It may not, try it in handheld to see if that's why

It's way too limited, only letting you choose from a bunch of generic assets, that you can't even color while also only having like 10 backgrounds. That's a combination of using the free hand tool and having the grid turned on. If you want to make something parallel what I do is I draw one half first, then, when I have to draw the other half I count how many pixels I need to go in each direction to mirror the other side if that makes any sense. You do that and eventually the two halves connect again and it's a perfect symmetrical shape. One tip I can give you with that too, is if you need something to be symmetrical, build it on top of that grid line in the center or the sides of the stage that are colored so you have a guide-point to base off and not get lost counting the grid-boxes. Once it's done you can drag it to wherever you want it on the stage.

Good idea btw! I was wanting to make a Chibi Robo stage too at some point

It's really confusing. I posted that Wind Fish way up in the thread and I didn't learn until it was way too late that Player 2 always spawns in the tail at the bottom of the screen for some reason, even though Player 1 spawns on top like normal.

Then I have other stages where the characters spawn in grabbing distance of each other, then ones where they spawn on the roof of the stage, it's so hard to predict. I still can't figure out what is the cause of how it determines where the spawn points are. God knows what it's like in 8 player matches.

It's a purely non-meme non-gimmick design made to address what I think Final Destination lacks.

- Characters having wall jump suddenly matters at least a little bit.
- Gimp-kills are much less viable.
- A lot less time is spent recovering (And things that would've killed you on-hit, still do)
- The edge is a very dangerous place to camp, as it should be.
