Anyone know if there's a way to set resolution in an ini or something? If I try to set my res to 1920x1080 the option window breaks and won't close, the only way to get back to the login is to revert to the default low res

The black bars were always a thing on the static images at high resolution, loading screens and the like.

I remember changing resolution breaking windows and sometimes UI positioning without a restart but I don't remember where the game stores your settings.

It's an old Superhero-based MMORPG. Make heroes, beat up badguys. Lots of customizations not only with appearances, but also with your abilities.

You unlock stronger powers in your main two sets, you unlock a few ancillary sets like travel powers and leadership, and you keep customizing and enhancing powers with drops.

Physically you get a cape at 20 and auras at 30

If it wasn't just a test server I would do that. Doesn't help that everything like capes and auras and shit are all unlocked from the start so that kind of appearance progression is already there.

I can't remember if there are raids at the end game but theres a giant fucking boss called Hamidon in one zone that takes a ton of people forever to kill. There are PvP zones but I hardly remember how those were.

I just played fucking CoH. I made a dude who kinda sucks, but I entered the tutorial, started a group and killed a couple random outbreak thugs. I lost connection immediately after that, and I saw my dude folding his arms while "LOST CONNECTION TO MAPSERVER" sat in the center of the screen.

I didn't think it would ever happen again. I never understood the need for game preservation on a personal level until now, but as of that moment, I get it. I am excited to see what comes out of this.

Extreme customization in every aspect of your character, cool classes and specs, instead of mounts you get "travel powers", interesting story and instanced maps, you can create a custom hideout with your clan and raid other people's hideouts to steal shit and they can raid YOUR hideout to steal shit (which you have to fight/defend) essentially having clan vs clan battles, etc.

It was a great theme, yeah it still boiled down to generic "auto-attack with mapped specials and cooldowns" like all MMO combat but it was great fun.

This feels like a dream. A few days ago I never thought this day would ever come.

If you'd prefer, you could make your character using Paragon Chat's offline mode instead and then just import the costume once you log into the game proper.

Since you're immobilized during cast times, animation quality was very well mocap'd for each attack, especially melee attacks. Between you swinging your weapon, the weapon connecting with the enemy, and the response time of it all it makes the game feel very satisfying. It's also very well balanced, there's not a single class in the game that's considered "so weak that it's denied from teams". Trinity exists but it's not shoved down your throat, gear doesn't fuck with your cosmetics, and loot is personalized so there isn't fighting/ninja-ing over a loot drop. Since it's personalized, people actually tend to give away free gear if it doesn't fit their character.

Do I need to restart my client? I'm not getting the firewall message, I'm just getting the same "unable to connect to the login server" that everyone else was before.

Brute does less damage, but gets fury so with lots of agro can do more

Brute is a bit squishier and takes time to build up power but deals a lot more damage than scrappers given enough time.

Scrappers are good when you want something dead now, Brutes are good if you can chain pull and/or fight archvillains/elites.

Nah, they usually locked cool customization options like capes and special effect etc. on your character until you reach certain level and then you had to do a quest to unlock them.

It kinda sucked because you didn't have ALL the options to customize a character at first but it was great because you could tell the more powerful characters from other by the visual upgrades they got from leveling up and doing quests. Made the grind that much better knowing you were going to get cool visual enhancements and customization options on your character.

A couple were things you could buy from doing activities.
All the Vanguard and Impervium costume pieces and weapons could be bought using Vanguard Merits you earned from doing missions and fighting in the Rikti War Zone.
Some weapons could be earned from earning badges (cheevos) in the game.
Others were things you could craft to unlock on your account and a couple more from trading in end game tokens or Task Forces.
Capes and Auras came from short mission arcs.

Yes and no. To both, not individually.
The version of the NPC/Mission data made public, Issue 25, is by default incompatible with the version of the source code made public, Issue 24. A team of coders has spent the day fixing it so that the two versions can play nice together. As far as I know, this fixed version is not yet public, though they intend to make it so.
However, worst-case scenario, we still have both sets of code, so they can be fixed again if necessary.

No lie, the races were legit. So cool in fact that I got 3 characters with different travel powers to max so I could platinum all the races. The flying ones at the end were fucking rough.

I really hate to be that user but I created the account (both of them) and I've got that tequilla downloading and the paragon chat downloaded. What do I have to do exactly in order to download the game itself and get into this server? I feel like a 10 year old right now.

Pretty slow past the first few story arcs, actually. Leveling took a LONG time until you could be carried by super powerful people and grind specific content for it.

What's the end game in this? Raids?

DCUO's combat design is better, but CoH's overall gameplay is leagues ahead of DCUO.

DCUO suffers from an issue where all of the power sets are very same-y and you don't have the same level of power customization/combinations as you do in CoH.

Make sure you save it locally. The server is not saving the characters I've made. They end up getting corrupted.

Don't act like Leo is the hero who stole the game away from NCSoft. This power was dropped into his lap and he chose to keep it for himself like an asshole.

It was a superhero MMO that was shut down years ago and was known for having a lot of options on how you wanted your character to look and play. A few days ago it got revealed some Argentinean was given the source code to host the game and sat on it for years, running a server for a select few and running disinformation campaigns so nobody would think having a private server was possible. He also ran something called Paragon Chat, which was the game gutted of everything but the character creator and some maps. Once the existence of said server got leaked, he got pressganged into releasing the code. People are testing out a public server now.

I got to play this game for AN HOUR TOPS when I was extremely young. I'm just hitting 20 now and this'll be the first time I've essentially ever played the game - how does it fare with Champions and in general what am I in for - barring all the login issues I'm sure it's having right now? Is it a game that was worth the wait? I don't know a single thing about it and yet all of the things I have heard about but never got to experience has made me genuinely excited to play.
