He's Okay. Arsene makes him have a good comeback mechanic if you goof like throwing a stock early.

I'm surprised no one else has said it (or maybe I just missed it) but I was SUPER disappointed that he only uses one Persona. On top of that it's one that most people ditch before the end of the first dungeon. I really hate the Persona trend of using the MCs special Persona in cross overs and promotional shit but then always making it trash in game. On top of that he could have been a cool fighter with a unique way of playing depending on if you called your Persona or not. Instead we got a reskin of Cloud's EX mechanic and even worse it relies on a counter to activate.

His Up smash covers 3/4ths of the battlefield platform, so he can cover just about any tech option someone does on it, it's also an extremely good anti air due to how to the ground Joker goes before attacking, allowing him to dodge someone doing an aggressive landing. It's also frame 10 which is fast as fuck, not every up smash has to be Fox or Mewtwo levels of braindead powerful to be useful.

If Arsene was good in-game you wouldn’t need to get other Personas.

His only flaw is that you only get the music change on his stage

Then why make it the one you start with? Why not at least do what they did in P4 and make a stronger late game version of it? Not that Izanagi red version has a good design but it was at least a step in the right direction.

That's a really shitty excuse to not make the MCs persona usable the whole game. I didn't even mention another solution is that you could make it actually good when it levels up instead of trash and it wouldn't make there no reason to get new Personas because one it has weaknesses and move set limitations and two you pretty much need fused Persons on harder difficulties or you won't have good enough Persona. Cloud doesn't use a selection of different swords for different situations throughout the game, you do use different Persona like that. There is absolutely room and reason for the MC to get other Persona even if there main one was usable the whole game. Usable also doesn't mean over powered.

well he should, it's simply an extention of joker. that said, it think just taking Cloud's limit mechanic and tacking it on joker so it's not a dumb comeback mechanic and giving arsene some hurtboxes to compensate for his size would have been so much better than copying every counter mechanic in the game.

You can say that if you want to but if you to hold a bottle cap or some other insignificant item for 70 hours and then were made to throw it away, you'd feel something at least, Even if you felt nothing, they were actual characters and were meant to evoke some feeling with their death. I don't think Shinjiro was a particular compelling character either but at least they killed him off instead of pretending to kill him off.

Nanako does die in the bad ending and she lives in the good ending. Just like in Nocturne how the best ending is the one where you bring everyone back to life (in the original game). There was no real reason to keep her dead besides appealing to edge lords so they wisely didn't.
