Destruction magic is literally useless in vanilla because it doesn't scale at all. Stealth archer is a meme because it's basically always valid even if you've fucked your character right up at first. If you want real power, you need to indulge in the feedback loop of smithing/enchanting/alchemy, like they intend.

Even with a bunch of difficulty mods the shit is broken. There needed to be some kind of hard cap on how many talent points you could put into a single spell.

As I said before, whatever you do don't play it vanilla. Just mod this shit to play like Dark Souls with a Berserk skin. I had dozens of combined mods, but you gotta tweak and see what works without clashing with the rest.

It's possible to add more weight and poise to characters and stamina so attacking and defending has an impact and you need to get your timings right and roll away to dodge or block, shit like that was possible 2 years ago and there's probably even better mods by now.
I haven't played in a while.
And of course add body damage mods. My way of playing Skyrim was cutting people in half with my giant greatsword and cinematic deaths and limbs flying everywhere, it slows down and you get a dramatic finish whenever you attack an enemy with low health. I could have even added custom music, probably, never tried it.

I would recommend checking out tesgeneral.com to get an idea of what mods you should get. There's youtube videos around for how to step it up properly but a lot of those people have horrible voices that will make you want to start cutting yourself. There's also the general thread of /vg/.

Did you try playing it with some of those mods? You'd be surprised how much simple combo consisting of Ultimate Combat + TK Dodge + Attack Commitment + Souls Quick Menu + SkySouls + Potions Animated Fix + Hunter's Essence + Critical Hit - Backstab and Parry + Revenge of the Enemies can make a world of difference.

You fail to see the whole package. The vanilla game had a non-existant combat system and was already loved because of the lore and setting and options, using mods to get a decent system coupled with the vast world of Skyrim and quests and characters with a world decorated to your liking...
Yeah it gets pretty fun if you can customize it into your dream game. That's its strenght, there are plenty options to transform Skyrim into your favorite game.

I made Archer's armor from Fate into Skyrim for example. Then I customized the magic swords spell to summon his blades from the anime, and a cool ass bow with the Archery overhaul.
And this fucking UBW spell that, after chanting, teleports everyone into an epic arena full of swords.
Then I just spend hours hunting villains down and exploring for rare artifacts and no other game offers me that.

Yes that's one of the best spell packs. I also recommend Forgotten Magic Redone and Lost Grimoire of Skyrim. Those three are the tried and true trinity for spell packs. Tame and relatively balanced.
Some others that are also nice are: Arcanum - A New Age of Magic, Elemental Destruction Magic, Ace Blood Magic and Shadow Spell Package. I recommend getting ASIS which will allow enemies to use modded perks from things like Ordinator as well as modded spells from these mods.

If you're playing with things like Revenge of the Enemies, High Level Enemies, Immersive Creatures, Ultimate Dragons, Ultimate Combat, Diverse Dragons Collection etc. that makes the enemies harder then you could also check out Colorful Magic. It's pretty animu though.

I fucking hate the leveling system in Skyrim, you will not get any crafting skills to 100 without doing some form of exploit. And if you don’t use smithing and enchanting you will never do actually decent damage at higher levels. And why the fuck is magic so shit, garbage damage and the drain on Magicka is worse than the drain of American medical bills, then it also regens slower in combat. Fuck this game man. And fuck radiant quests for ruining the quests like getting the vampire rings and curing werewolf shit being blocked by random garbage shit like the thieves guild.

At some point I noticed crafting and leveling it was a grind so stupidly big the devs must have expected me to use cheats, and so I used the console to give myself tons of money and craft shit. Then I realized that was the long way of simply giving myself lvl 100 smith and I stopped playing because I felt dirty.

I got into mods after coming back and that's much better.

As limited as it is compared to it's predecessors, Skyrim really does feel like it was meant to be a platform for mods, it's all left unfinished and open-ended in obnoxious, indecisive ways.

I do play other games. But I always come back to modding Skyrim. Nothing can even come close to scratching the customizability/freedom itch that modded Skyrim/Oblivion/Morrowind can provide. Won't work. Trust me, I already tried it. You'll just fuck up entire head mesh for your character then.
Best you could do is import it for other elven race (dark elf or wood elf), but it still doesn't work properly for anything outside high elf.

Well no but that's a different genre of a game though. It's a straight forward action game. This is like wanting to turn Skyrim into a DMC clone.
To allow you the freedom of (modded) builds the combat needs to be more grounded in DPS racing instead of action/physics based corridor interactivity like Dark Messiah. This allows for varied classes that rely on role play gimmicks to exist. Just because these games have swords and magic doesn't make them comparable.

And Skyrim isn't all about the combat. It's an immersive fantasy sim. I use the basic Souslike setup most of the time instead of Enhanced Vanilla loadout and it's honestly the most exciting way to spice up/quicken the basic combat mechanics, especially in melee.
However I also play with Roguelike elements that'll permanently kill off my character if I die twice in a short period of time as well as increase the amount of randomized encounters/loot that can happen. Combine this with survival mods as well as mods that make the leveling and hybrid building harder and you have yourself a unique experience that no other open world 3D RPG can provide. Mods like these discourage you from mindlessly grinding at every enemy that spawns. It makes the whole thing more riskier and rewards preparation.

Making the environment/enemy/spawn rate more dangerous and using party mods such as EFF, Volatile Followers, Aggro Management and Be With Healer will turn the adventuring/dungeoneering section of the game into a mini real-time party management RPG.

And DMC3 is even more impressive compared to Dark Messiah. Yet these comparison are retarded and irrelevant. I feel like you're missing the point a bit.

Updates not optional for anyone who owns the non-pirated game, and it's mostly the mods that make extensive use of SKSE that suffer. It's a whole extra dynamic to the situation from Oldrim, on top of there being things people actually haven't figured out how to do on SE yet. The upside is that you CAN do mods that would break Oldrim though, and it runs and looks better. But that's the price you have to pay, because Todd needs more shekels.

SE not only has both Oldrim bugs but it also has some bugs of its own. They pretty much even out.
USLEEP, USMP, Bugfixes/Crashfixes, Precache Killer, SKSE (and Falls Creators Update if you're willing to bother) and you're good to go. It's up to you to use LOOT for your load order, Mod Organizer instead of NMM, manual saving instead of quick/auto saving, restarting your game after installing large overhauls, cleaning your save bloat occasionally and to avoid dangerous mods like Footprints.

No the ENB for SE is inferior due to Boris not giving a shit anymore, meaning it'll never look better than modded Oldrim.

The reason why "heavily modded" SE generally appears more stable than heavily modded Oldrim is because SKSE for SE is incomplete and lacks a bunch of scripts meaning all the script heavy mods for it aren't nearly as intensive as their Oldrim counterparts since they all lack all the in-depth features that might clog up your game. Basically less complicated mods, less features, less apparent crashes.
