You pick a team and play Turf War with them. You get Super Sea Snails based on your Splatfest Title which ranks up as you participate. The team with the most points at the end gets a few bonus snails. Those snails are used to unlock skill slots on clothing, or to reroll them for other skills.

I doubt they will, it would be way too many stages in rotation unless they want to adopt the 3 stage set up for regular Turf War and swap out a Shifty Station each time without replacing the regular stages. But once again, doubt it will happen.
I'm hoping for the final Splatfest to be all the Shifty's in rotation with no regular stages though

Gyro can be weird if you aren't used to it, but a play through of the single player campaign should be plenty for you to adjust to them. I recommend using separated joycon, as you only have to move the right joycon to aim.
Give it a try, it's a huge hit for a reason
