What's so good about it?
All I ever hear about it from anyone who uses it is what features they wish it had.

Attached: image.jpg (498x280, 226K)

What well-known games use this engine?

gt6

It's defining feature is that's it's pretty fucking good for an open source and free engine but it's not nearly as good as already long established engines who have teams working on them 24/7.

That's just what I've read though. Still, no reason it couldn't become de facto with some time and effort. Especially with Unity not being as good as UE and UE becoming a Chinese arm into the US.

is growing fast, and is free

good for making 2d indieshit and thats about it i think

*cares about some nerd shit* just kidding i would never

Fucking based i almost popped a boner to this one. what a fucking post.

Fuck thats based.

*doesn't silently kill geometry that is occluded* Huge progress has been made with it though. Looking forward to more updates.

Got really horny over this, if I was a hot 10/10 model I would have asked you out for this post

ywn make a good game anons, just stop wasting your time, even some above average games get completely overlooked and make 0 profit

the are millions of easier jobs to make money

it will kill them once community stops making fucking pixelized platformers and builds something that looks like it was made after 2005

I would love to see /agdg/ get together and make a game that blows all the current Godot prototype games the fuck out of the water.

Attached: red capsuled.jpg (320x180, 35K)

Still unusable for 3D.
2D is finally good with proper tileset editor.

will it go to shit like unity did once it gets good, i wonder

Can games running in this engine work in the Nintendo Switch?

yes

post best games made with Godot engine then if it's so great

Attached: 1488456668636.png (303x566, 163K)

Attached: Star Citizen.jpg (600x800, 130K)

Just like Ogre, which has actually been used in successful games?

but star citizen uses amazon lumberwood, which is just a fork of unreal engine 3

It's pretty damn impressive. I'm still hoping for the 3d renderer to mature, maybe with the vulkan backend.

Did they remove the bitcoin miner?

Why do they name it after a Phoenix Wright character?

It is actually free and open-source.

It would once it'll get:
>good user interface
>good documentation
As it is, its still a meme.

>you share a board with people dumb enough to download open source software from a 3rd party download site
you deserve it

>mit license
Its going closed source when it gets big enough
Dont use this engine

youtube.com/watch?v=NlKEO1N8wMM
Now, give me a good shmup on emulators.

>mit
They are just asking to get cucked by some greedy corporation with actually competent people

Actually one of my fears, but I doubt it will happen, at worst scenario will be the purchase by some big company, trying to profit on console ports.
>Wanna port your game to console/streaming service
>Get the paid version or do it yourself

Attached: 1532892883744.png (465x357, 160K)

>become a big engine to rival UE and others
>get bought by Epic

CryEngine, not Unreal.

>>get bought by Epic

Attached: 1540601936978.png (540x298, 325K)

It's gonna need 5-10 more years before it can seriously compete but so far it's pretty promising

Still waiting for this shit to come out

>deponia isn't successful

name ONE thing that's good about godot except being muh open source meme / asking no licensing costs ever.

there's no way a slight financial advantage (if any - you don't pay a penny for Unity unless you make over 100k a year off it or something) can make up for the shitty work flow, inferior performance and general bugginess.

Superior 2D environment compared to Unity and GM.

Attached: 1515753384319.gif (128x128, 10K)

It's literally RPG Maker. You don't need too learn lame nerd programming shit to make games

you'll be stuck making extremely simple shit but if you're fine with that enjoy.

>2D
Go back to sleep, grandpa

Why can't Godotfags even attempt making a Quake 3 clone?
How the fuck can Godot be praised so much if everything made with it is barely even a game.

>Not making 2D a game

Attached: 1555274455146.gif (350x196, 1.61M)

because it's a 2D only engine and the 3D features are purely experimental. the creator isn't interested in making a usable 3D engine.

> the creator isn't interested in making a usable 3D engine.
Actually, godotengine.org/article/atlas-support-returns-godot-3-2, he is implementing Vulkan for the next version, 4.0 will be focused on the 3D.

Attached: 1540370479503.gif (400x300, 3.77M)

wrong

It's basicly:
If you want to go 2D get with Godot.
If you want to go 3D get UE4.

>literal who engine killing AAA well known and already used engines
in what world OP?

>flooding the market with more shovelware
kys

>being underage

Ah finally, I've been waiting

Einhander

Want to know who is going to silently die? OP because he's a social outcast with nobody that gives a shit about him

seething epicuck.

If I make a porn game on Unity or Unreal, they will ban the game.
Not gonna happens with Godot!

That totally not a bestiality game because they are bipedal is being made in unity.

>silently reposts the same thread again

like I know the difference between Unreal and Godot lmao I was just shitting on your social-pariah ass thanks for opening the salt mines #rekt

?

I make pet projects as a hobby. Are you retarded user? Why do you think you have to make commercial games for profit? Is this why you are unhappy?

Next time, put on the subject
>Where is your game Yea Forums ?

having vulkan support won't make the tools any better.

why do you have to make everything a competition?
so a new engine is out, that means more options
but you prefer making it a rival
kill yourselves this is one of the things that is killing videogames

Attached: 4.0.jpg (626x771, 106K)

>UE becoming a Chinese arm into the US
I seriously hope you are a tranny so you will kill yourself soon

They are nodevs, they want to make a game, but they prefer to shitpost about engines, tools, licenses or gameplay concepts.

If I wanted to make a game in the vein of Suikoden or Breath of Fire, would this be good for that?

Yes.

Theoretically, but there's no official Switch support built into the engine like with Unreal or Unity. Nintendo doesn't want that FOSS'd

I'm still waiting for It.

almost all graphics stuff

Explain, i thought it was open source forever.

It is, but they can close everything and force people to buy their new version, pay licenses, etc.

Open source can become closed source. The versions that were open source stay open source, but then later updates are closed off unless the open source version gets forked. And then the closed source version can just cop improvements and not put any of their own back. It's a real problem with open source software with few maintainers (who were bought out)

>he no rike china
>he tranny hohohoho
wow

The true patricians choice is urho3d

Are there any other good games being made with it besides mine?

Attached: Alphaman_Highway_Stage.png (1080x810, 34K)

That's a concern for a project like an OS, where the end goal is the open product.

Game engines are more like media codecs where the end goal is universal adoption of a standard.
For that type of use a permissive license is the correct choice because you want it to be used.
There is very little risk that Godot will be taken and closed away from the community because the only unique value that it has as an engine is the community and its free nature.
Once you take it and close it you lose the benefits of the open community and have to incur more expense to support it yourself, and you'll invariably fall behind the main project.

Like what happened to Apple's Webkit after they lost control of the core group of developers.

What games are made in Godot? Genuine question, since I wanna know whether or not I should swap my project over to Godot or just stick with CrashMaker.

which programming language I'm supposed to learn if I want to be proficient with Godot?

I don't see a lot of high profile games being made. Gotta be the change you want to see, I guess

python, but you can just learn gdscript as you're learning Godot and be just as proficient.

Attached: firebot_stage_intro.png (1080x810, 23K)

is there a good newbee tutorial to go from 0 to hero using 2d Godot?

>mega man clone that looks worse than the original from 30 years ago

mega yikes

if I make a 100% free game, I can use copyrighted music tracks and pictures of celebrities?

Like how is that a game about american president Donald Trump is sold on steam? I can make a fucking game about a celebrity and sell it?

youtube.com/watch?v=NlKEO1N8wMM

youtube.com/watch?v=ODn4oOqWGik

that
>third person shooter demo
why isn't that a full fucking game already, it's like all it needs is someone to buy enough assets or make them or steal them, and add some fucking npcs and you have a fucking steam indie game ready to sell. What is missing? what is stopping people from using the blueprint or whatever is included in the demo and turn it into a full game?

Could you point me to a tutorial to get started with godot? I've been using Gamemaker for a very long time and I need to de program myself.

Art isn't my strong-point, but I feel I have the gameplay down alright

I really just found any old tutorial on youtube and got started. Everyone learns differently, so what worked for me might not work for you.

Attached: chefbot_stage.gif (596x380, 2.16M)

Sort of. As long as you are not making a profit off it and clearly label it as a parody or whatever then free speech laws should protect you from copyright laws. But it has to be 100% free.

Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden was made with edited and ripped assets from basketball games combined with original assets and was released 100% free as a comedy thing. Fan games are also a thing and most are legal provided they aren't hindering the sales of similar projects from the company IIRC AM2R ggot shut down because Samus Returns was being released/developed at the same time it was finished

But I think my art is improving over time. I'd gladly welcome an artist on board if they were interested. I'm almost done with all the stages at this point.

Attached: chefBotStageGameplay.gif (620x435, 2.01M)

fuck off yomic you shill

and how does it work with Patreon involved? like you know there's people that make shit like MMD videos, and they're using ripped models, ripped assets, ripped music and all they do is put it together and they still charge people every month "donations", heck they even charge to see the "full uncensored" versions.

Why wouldn't that apply to a videogame?

>Can't render red on a white background
Hard pass.

It really killed Game Maker

It does the same Game Maker does, but it's free.

The gimmick is that everything is a scene and scenes are highly composable.

The other gimmick is that it has a simple pythonesque scripting language called gdscript with hardly any features (like no first class functions, which makes gdscript rather shit), although it does provide support for C#, or any other language with some additional effort.

It's a perfectly cromulent engine for making undertale or FTL but there's no way in hell it will any of the engines that OP named.

Patreon is different because you're not charging for the product, you're getting donations from people who support what you are doing.

There's a bunch of legal and wordy loopholes that allow people to get away with a bunch of shit by "accepting donations" compared to "selling a service/product". Any "bonuses" received after donating is just that, a bonus thing and not a sold product or service.

yeah so I make game with stolen assets like music from copyrighted musicians, put it on steam for free, and have patreon for donations, and I'm good? that's it?

can I make an mmo with Godot?

Don't make an MMO.

why not? they sell like hotcakes

Have any other adventure games used this engine? Been tempted to try making my own

No they don't.

Lol godot will never approach the techincal capability of Unreal and Unity as long as it is free. It could become the best for 2D for sure and kill gamemaker studio, but not for 3D.

If you don't know why, you're also probably not ready to make one.
They're one of the most expensive and difficult genres to develop for, those MMOs lost a lot of money before they started making it back.
Since 90% of anything won't blow up and make it big, the vast majority of MMOs that are made also become an criminal waste of time and money.

Atlas was just an ARK reskin and it was steam's most played game for like a week, pretty sure thye made the investment back in the first few days.
