I'm really forcing myself through it at this point. I'm at the part where Solaris appears and I honestly just want to finish the game already so I can move on.

It has a lot of good things going for it but there's also quite some annoying anime mecha-story tropes I dislike. A bit of too much text at times explaining things unecessarily long, and sometimes the text feels like it's written for 5 year olds.
Good thing I can speed up the combat using an emulator because I really can't watch these 20 seconds long animations for certain attacks the 500th time again.

>Gazel Ministry tracks your party via save points

>A bit of too much text at times explaining things unecessarily long
Stop here before you reach Disk 2, because that's going to destroy you if this is the case.
For my taste, I really loved the plot, themes and characters, the gameplay was just stupid once you understand combos are really useless and you should just spam your highest level command

I'm too far in to stop. I don't mind text being long since I'm used to vns, and at the very least Xenogears gets shit to the point unlike Trails or something. But there are SOME cases where I thought "just get on with it, I know what's going to happen" and that was a minor annoyance.

I wonder how bad it can be in disc 2? As long as the story is good I won't mind. I thought disc 2 is where all the deep stuff happens.

I need to replay it sometime before I die.

Attached: xenogears.jpg (800x681, 120K)

It is but it's also the point where they didn't have anymore time so you have shit cut left and right and just told by Fei and Ellie, entire dungeons and bosses and what would've been reveals with a proper build-up just thrown out.

>"The one you call God is an intergalactic weapon system"

Attached: 1462067614093.jpg (398x356, 47K)

>I thought disc 2 is where all the deep stuff happens.
It is, but because they were out of budget by this point, the events aren't as fleshed out as they were likely supposed to and a large part of the disc is characters narrating stuff that would've normally been played through in the first disc. Personally, I don't even mind really the second disc as some people do, but it's clearly something they only managed to quickly put together under pressure.

So how long is Disc 2 exactly, compared to Disc 1? Half of Disc 1's length? More, less?

Much shorter. Like 20% or something at most including sidequests at the end.

>Deus is a big space weapon
>oh btw it also has the ability to seed an entire human civilization as a maintenance mechanism

Isn't this why Goyim exist exactly according to Talmud?

Way less. When I played it, I recall I started it somewhere in the afternoon and was done by nighttime. I didn't do any sidequests though.

There's always Xenosaga.

>tfw made it to the end with the same 3 deathblows cause too stupid to understand how they are unlocked

Depends on how fast you read.

In terms of actual word count disc 2 is 73.2% what disc 1 was. In terms of my hours played it's like 16% in my previous playthrough.

Emeralda's the only worthwhile sidequest, and only because of plot reasons really

Going to replay this game soon for the first time since 1999. Can't wait but also not looking forward to certain parts that I remember random encounters during platform sections that cause you not to jump

Just circle around until you get a random battle before important jumps.

Just make sure you use an emulator, playing any PS1 era JRPG legit these days is just mindnumbingly dull as you have to sit through that 15 second loading screen going into the random encounter, fight the same 3 enemies again you just fought watching the same three attack animations over and over, wait another 15 seconds leaving that random encounter and loading the level back in, and then falling back to the beginning because the random encounter hit mid jump and now you've got to climb the whole thing over again. Meanwhile on an emulator you can just make a savestate before the essential jumps and roll it back if you happen to hit a random encounter during one and you can also just fast forward through all the gratuitous PS1-era loadtimes.

Stand tall and shake the heavens.

Monolith should continue this instead of making waifu gacha simulators.

More or less. The Gazel Ministry are basically Jews because they believe they are Deus' chosen ones and it is their right to rule over the Lambs. The surface dwellers are goyim who exist solely as cattle and spare parts for Deus.

The gameplay is a bit too braindead for me.

Probably never.

It is SE's property afterall. And I don't expect much out of them.

hopefully never remasters suck ass

They can't even get around and remake FF7, Square Enix are fucking worse than EA

Just hop a couple worldlines over until you find the one where Xenogears was Final Fantasy VII and it's about to get a remake.

How are Xenogears, Xenosaga, and Xenoblade connected? I only remember the Zohar in gears and saga. Have never played XB.

Great ideas + Ambitious design goals + Low budget + Team of rookies = Xenogears.

They are only connected in themes, there's no plot connection

Same people worked on them, they kept wanted to go over their grand idea, and each game kinda works as a part of it. Think of them as spiritually related, not timelinewise.

Pyra also has split personalities like Fei and Ellie.
This and the mother thing comes from exploiting Jung and Froyd in his narration.
Aedipus complex is very powerful and is in everyone.

They're about as connected as your typical new mainline numbered Final Fantasy games are to eachother.

Xenosaga takes place before Xenogears starts.

Xenoblade's not really connected to Saga or Gears but the premise is pretty much the same, Zohar shenanigans.

Xenosaga is just a reimagined version of what Xenogears episode 1 would have been, but it's not a prequel, nor it can be as the lore is different

Well, that's disappointing. Thanks, guys.

XS before XG I kinda imagined it, especially with the way less advanced robots. Thanks, user.

but it is

Abel is literally in it

Man, I should really play this. I started with Xenosaga because I've never played a PSone title and wasn't sure I'd be able to handle the shittyness. But, man, Xenosaga was fucking amazing, it's one of those stories that will becomes a part of your psyche, I'll never forget it. then Xenoblade Chronicles was just ok. It's a shame we'll never get a dark and twisted story like Takahashi and Saga delivered in Saga and Gears again since Xenoblade is now a mainstream nintendo franchise made to be marketable.

The Zohar of Xenogears and Xenosaga are very different, they simply can't match

>Xenosaga takes place before Xenogears starts.
it doesn't, they aren't prequel/successors they are just spiritual succesors.

They are set in different time periods, of the same story kinda. Like if you look into it there was this massive planned story, and while not technically in a timeline together, they are each set in a different part of that original idea.

Going through Xenosaga Episode 1 at the moment and I'm really liking it. It's got everything I like in a vidya plot; lots of guessing that keeps you engaged with the plot, a protagonist that isn't what she appears to be, everyone trying to out-conspiracy each other, and lots of fun pseudo-intellectual shit in it. Even the gameplay is enjoyable and cozy once you get what it wants you to do.

Yeah, I'm thinking you're seeking and powerpilled

Nice wiki article.

>Though the development team is the same, they were previously working under Square for Xenogears, and now they have shifted to Monolith Software for Xenosaga. But with our relation between Square, I think it is difficult for us to say it is a direct sequel or prequel. It's probably more suitable to say that it follows the direction and style of Xenogears.
>its not a prequel because it was made by another company

nice wiki paraphrasing teebeeech

It's not a prequal because its literally not a prequel. I actually am actually confused how you expect me to argue against your head cannon when the creators have literally said it's not a prequel

Can't you just both agree that its meant as one, but it can't be since Square own the rights to it? Its pretty obvious its meant as one, but literally can't be it technically.

>>Though the development team is the same, they were previously working under Square for Xenogears, and now they have shifted to Monolith Software for Xenosaga. The dungeons can get gruesomely boring and the combat in turn, hopefully you can turbo it if you're playing on an emulator. Then get ready for a genre shift in Ep II, it's quite different from I. You get ninjas fighting ancient samurai with swords in the rain in some weird shonen anime shit just in the first 10 minutes.

Ep 1 is Star Trek, slow and philosophical and full of wonder
Ep 2 is Max Payne 3 a complete genre shift and trying to appeal to a different audience
Ep 3 is Star Wars, a bit more action but the best game as a sum of it parts

Jr. >>> Billy

This quote does not support you. This quote is them refusing to say it's a prequel which means you calling it a prequel is literally unofficial head cannon

It's not only that, they also changed some stuff which makes it not work as a prequel other than copyright, yes a prequel qould have been similar to this, but some lorepieces and characters have to be changed for it to work, as of now, it can be seen as Xenogears Episode 1 in a reimagined setting

How? The gameplay isn't even that good.

I've already gotten through the Cathedral Ship, which is apparently the worst the game has to offer in terms of dungeons.

turn based strategy games "aren't even that good" as far as games in general go. This very good as far as turn based strategy games go I hope you can at least admit though.

There's more to games than just gameplay. We've moved on from gameplay only games like Tetris and Pac-Man, you should too.

Nope. Even if you get to that scene without saving the game once, it's still the same. They are observing you; you don't necessarily have to interact with them.

Not if it gets remade with Armored Core-like gameplay

Is Xenosaga 2 the MOMO and Jr. Show, with Shion and KOS-MOS essentially doing nothing? I haven't played it.

>This very good as far as turn based strategy games go I hope you can at least admit though.
Not particularly? The character progression sucks. The Deathblow mechanics are half-assed. Even the Gear battles get old in the long run. There are much better games on that front.

I'd rather be playing Tetris for an hour than watching cutscenes for the same duration in what's supposed to be an interactive medium. Or better yet, a game with more fleshed out and involved gameplay from generations later. It's almost as if plenty of those exist.

Yeah, but that ain't gonna happen.

>I'd rather be playing Tetris for an hour than watching cutscenes for the same duration in what's supposed to be an interactive medium.
then why the fuck are you in a playstation 1 jrpg thread. Jesus Christ I don't understand you niggers.

>fights your Gears with his bare hands
>If you have Elly in your party and the other two characters are defeated, the fight ends because Grahf won't attack Elly

does xenosaga work on pcsx2 now? before save points were broken and I'm too afraid of accidentally overwriting hours of progress only using save states.

That's because bullying Elly is wrong.

>then why the fuck are you in a playstation 1 jrpg thread.
Most good PS1 JRPGs have much better pacing and gameplay-to-story ratios than Xenogears does. Kindly refrain from being disingenuous on that front. You know better.

Attached: SunsetLucia.gif (640x480, 19K)

They're all connected thematically and through a device called the Zohar.

The Xenoblade series as a whole is actually turning out to be really good. Xenoblade 1 is just ok as a game, but with Xenoblade X and 2 it's becoming clear they're pursuing the original vision of a six part epic.

Xenoblade 3 is going to be exactly what happens after the ending of Xenoblade 1 and 2 and it'll lead into setting up the world of X, then X-2 and X-3 will be pure unadulturated KINO.

Attached: 1449253574874.jpg (346x450, 41K)

Yeah, mainly. Jr. is treated as a second protagonist and the story goes into the origins of Rubedo, Albedo and Nigredo but there's still plenty of stuff with Shion and KOS-MOS.

Takahashi obviously didn't like that direction since when they remade Episode I & II for DS the story in II was completely from Shion's perspective again.

Holy fuck, my world has been rocked. The pic on the right is litterally what I always saw

Will there ever be an RPG that has such realistic, believable, and developed side characters as Xenosaga?

Attached: Love_compressed.gif (480x360, 2.69M)

Cherenkov needed a hug.

Cherenkov's plot was a pointless diversion. The idea of personality rewrites was cool, but to have his arc be nothing but a lead-in to the true nature of the Gnosis was totally worthless. They were already foreshadowed to be remnants of humans pretty hard.

I agree with here, just sounds like you don't like the game user. I had frustrations with it but still enjoyed it more or less consistently starting at the Aveh rescue mission sequence.

I played Chrono Cross first and kinda preferred how it presented that same thing with FATE. In reality it might just be nostalgia talking though. Xenogears definitely had the better plot overall, but there are some things I prefer in CC.

I'd say its pretty much obligatory. The flashback sequence was one of my favorite parts of the game, and the shop there sells items that make the final boss and dungeon ez mode.

How far are you user? I'm also playing it for the first time and I'm pretty split. Story definitely has potential though.
I'm pretty sure I'm at the tail end of the Kukai foundation segment, how much more do I have left of Episode I? Also is it worth buying/using AGWS for other characters? I've literally used them maybe once the entire game so far.

Attached: 1528026295427.jpg (450x600, 101K)

Attached: download.png (360x360, 220K)

There's a fair bit left. At least three "dungeons" I can remember.

I completely disagree, his plot builds up the world a lot. It introduces the concept of designer children, the life recycling act, and the process of what it takes for a human to literally turn into a Gnosis while being alive. Even if the nature of the Gnosis were already foreshadowed, which they weren't since it's not till after the Cathedral Ship that the Durandal rescues them and Jr. shows them his room of half-gnosis-half-humans, it's still an important piece of world building and development.

It'd have been stupid if they mention the life recycling act, like Ziggy for example, but then go onto never really bring it up again. Cherenkov is just another example of the life recycling act and like I said brings into play important parts of the world.

So much for all that world building when the plot devolves into an overworld soap opera by the time episode III rolls around. And that's if you ignore all the stilted conversations and technobabble of the first two games.

>tfw boob knife turned out to be canon
My mind was blown when I saw that, I had seen this gif and just thought it was some retarded fan art. Takahashi, you did it again.

Attached: 1lNP6p4.gif (400x240, 716K)

The story is very consistently character driven throughout the trilogy. I'm not sure what you're on about. Because the characters have been through hell and are emotional wrecks in Episode III?

I meant "overblown soap opera". Brain fart.

Well, I don't consider it particularly good writing when you spend all this time on the world and various plot diversions only to have the overarching narrative veer hard into character drama and never quite resolve itself. You could partially blame it on Namco, but I think Takahashi overshooting the scope of the plot is also to blame. Monolith Soft seemed to have learned nothing from Xenogears' failings and only exacerbated its faults in the long run.

GET OUWTAMY WAY, OR ELWSE!

Attached: Shion1Con.png (792x2851, 3.17M)

When Nintendo buys the xeno series in its entirety and gives it to monolithsoft.

I don't think that the world building got too consumed by the plot. Xenosaga II has a LOT to do with the designer children / life recycling with everything about the Yuriev Institute, the URTV, the psychology of the remaining four URTV, their rights as people and it carries onto Xenosaga III where characters are still influenced by all this. Everything with the designer children and life recycling act also parallels the Realians, and their being used as weapons during the Miltian conflict (which ties back into the URTV and Yuriev Institute).

It's difficult to make clear concise thoughts about this because it's all interconnected and relevant to the plot and world, without the world building a lot in Xenosaga III straightup wouldn't make sense or would feel like it needs to be elaborated on more.

What a lovely duo! The human with the heart and body of a robot and the robot with a bigger heart than a human.
