PS3 or Wii version? Which one is better?
Unfortunately, i do not have a 360 anymore
360
Wii shit
PS3 almost good
PC PORT WHEN
The Sonic Generations mod
Xbox one BC
The Wii/PS2 version has a shorter werehog and a separated eggmanland which is good, but the PS3/360 version has better visuals and gameplay, I recommend you to play the Xbox 360 which is the one that runs better (or play in the Xbox one)
Rarely gets mentioned but the wii/ps2 version has the gaia temples
They're both good
i think sega lost the code of the boost formula (that's why for example forces has a very weird controls) but now in ps3 emulator runs pretty well at constant 60fps
Batteborn isn't great but it's criminally underrated since everyone wrote it off because muh randy and the designs in favor of Overwatch
Gameplay is fun with each character feeling unique with their kits, even the 2 literal clone characters feel different enough in the roles they play with their respective Helix Trees
Transformers Devastation is one of the best hack and slash/crazy games to come out in recent years.
They didn't lose the code. They just decided to build Forces off of Lost World. Which was more realisable for the small team that Sonic Team has had ever since after Generations
>Replace Werehog shit with Knuckles shit
>Change up that godawful night music every once in a while
>Remove shitty medals
>Call it Sonic & Knuckles 2 or something
Just fixed it, the day levels are already solid, they just needed to unfuck the rest of it
It's more like the "open source" data is gone because they rewrote it for Lost World and they don't keep backups of older engines and have to redo anything they want to bring back. Most companies still do this, but not all of them anymore now with modern day data storage.
They could port Unleashed by tweaking the existing data via modding, but it's not the same as open source data.
but forces was maked in 4 years because they were makinjg the hedgehog engine 2, a new motor for sonic games
It was just a lighting engine. They did work on Hedgehog Engine 2 yes. But idk if that is really the reason why development on the actual game started late
The Hedgehog Engine IS NOT a gameplay engine, I wish this was more understood. It's purely a lighting engine for Sonic games, nothing related to gameplay. Sonic runs on the Havok engine used since Sonic 06. The only excepts are Colors, which used a upgraded PhysicX engine used in the storybook era games.
And no, Forces had one year of game development, the HE2 was worked on since Lost World and first tested in Mario and Sonic and the Rio Olympic games. Forces used the finished version.
That game is shit. At least 06 wasn’t boost to win. 06 was actually fun if you skipped the cutscenes (who watches them in a sonic game anyway)
for me the werehog makes sense in the history, and the daytime levels needs to change the hooming attack action into the jump button
If you're going to play Sonic for non story, then play the classic/advance if you want raw gameplay, GOOD gameplay. Having shit taste for 06 should be a sin.
the ''press boost to win'' joke can apply to forces or colors which they have a weak level desing, but for unleashed is not the case, and it's good to know that someone is defending 06
hey at least 06 was the most accurate thing to adventure 3 that we haved (anyways sonic heroes or unleashed can be counted also as adventure games)
The battle music at night needs change. The rest is perfect :youtube.com
Half-Life 1
Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2 Episode 1
Half-Life 2 Episode 2
Git exists since 2001, I'm pretty sure even indies use proper branching for different builds of the engine and game.
that games aren't underrated are they?
You mean Github? I never understood what it really was, how does it work?
Minecraft
Colors has a lot of 2D levels with semi puzzle elements. Remember the blue block wisps? You dont boost to win through that.
i talk about the 3d sections that are simply holding boost in rails or in quickstep sections, and the 2d parts i think they could be better with the level desing, the DS version is way better than the wii one
Github is just a host for source control repositories. A really good one but you can run your own git server. The engine itself is git, and it takes care of having multiple copies of the same code across multiple users with a server copy as the central version. That way you avoid overwriting any kind of code you might need later.
Interesting. Thanks user.
But that begs the question, does AAA companies like SEGA (at the time anyways) would use such a thing? I get the impression Japanese studios don't like to use non in house software. Havok was like the first think as a kit for SEGA to use, that Havok existed ways before they started using it.
Source control is like one of the pillars of software dev in general including game dev. But If Sega lose their code this often then most likely they use their own stuff. I've never heard of other companies like Square or Capcom losing their code. So it must be a Sega thing.
Well actually Square said before they lost the source code to the first Kingdom Hearts years ago, but that was due to a fire I think. But it did happen. But I guess under normal conditions, they don't lose their work.
I think it's because "Sonic Team" is never the same group of people per game, so whoever works on what just takes their code to themselves. I heard something like this happened to Yuji Naka's code of NiGHTS into Dreams.
