I absolutely ADORE the original Team-Silent's games. Played SH1 alone some 40+ times by now.

Here's the DL & tutorial links for the PC ports and fan patches (can't post pics 'cos of Hiro's EU range ban):

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
DON'T use W10's own virtual disc app! Don't install under C:\Program Files\ !
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.

Follow the SH2 widescreen fix site's instructions to the teeth, and you should be fine.
For 3 & 4, check the Guide.

>Protips:
Play the games in release order, and don't play on Easy mode.
Multiple playthroughs per game is very recommended.
Lower the in-game Brightness, crank up volume.
Turning OFF flashlight helps a ton!

>Play the games in release order, and don't play on Easy mode.

You can ignore this part for SH4.
SH 1, 2 and 3 are fine on standard difficulty, but 4 second half is so frustratingly shitty i highly recommend just playing it on the easiest difficulty.

I personally never had problems with 4's last half.
I'd say it's BETTER than the 1st half, since shit gets really spooky.

inb4 for that pseudo intellectual post about gameplay in dissonance with narrative

Nigga the second half of 4 is one long, terrible escort mission.
And you don't get to experience the best ending if you don't pay EXTREME CARE to your escort.
And your escort takes PERMANENT DAMAGE, your "healing" isn't permanent healing, there's a hidden counter that is calculating the overall damage regardless.

This sucks any enjoyment out of the changes in the envroinment.
And on top of that you're backtracking trough the entire game pretty much.
I love SH4 for what it is, but let's not kid ourselves, the second half of that game is designed exceptionally poorly.

>Nigga the second half of 4 is one long, terrible escort mission.
it's perhaps THE easiest "escort" there has ever been. Never understood why people bitch about it; she can't die, can protect herself if needed, and you can easily leave her back into safe rooms if needed.

Not to mention part 2 is where the real meat of the show, the hauntings at the room and everything Walter, show up and take the center piece.

All that said, I do not claim 4 to be perfect on any meter, and it is far from being my favorite. Still, I vividly recall thinking to myself "Damn, this is yet another great game on PS2!" back in the days, and I've finished the game a handful of times later on as well; all endings + one full "blind" replay a decade later.

>Never understood why people bitch about it
Because, as i just said and you're ignoring for some reason:

-you don't get to experience the best ending if you don't pay EXTREME CARE to your escort
-your escort takes PERMANENT DAMAGE, your "healing" isn't permanent healing, there's a hidden counter that is calculating the overall damage regardless

This is horrible design.
If you just had to escort here it would be unfun, but whatever.
It's the fact that her hp decides if you get the ending that you want or not that's the problem, and she can't be permanently healed (and the game tricks you into thinking you can).

SH1 is the scariest SH game.

Good taste.

3 gameplay over 2? When Konami stepped in and said add more guns and enemies and instant deaths? You liked that? And the rehashed locations? really? Idk dude.

>ywn have a full recreated silent hill, SH1 quality level with the wobbling and all, fully explorable in VR

Never played one but I would like to. Apparently some need a ton of mods to enjoy though

2 doesn't play very well.
Not because it has less action, but just because it has very poor combat in general.

1 is arcadey and snappy, especially when you look up speedrunning techniques and understand the deeper systems within the game, it becomes fast and genuinely fun to play, in fact it becomes the most fun to play in the entire series.
3 is action focused, but polished enough both melee and ranged not to feel like a chore to play, it's decently designed.

2, on the other hand, has an absolute slog of a combat system.
You're sluggish, not just in a "james isn't supposed to be a fighter" angle, but straight up in a "this game would be better with no combat or only ranged combat" way.
And even the ranged combat is clunky and slow compared to SH1, or 3.
And, again, you can't give me the "James isn't supposed to be a soldier dude" excuse, because Harry isn't either, yet his shooting is 100 times more satisfying and to the point compared to James.
SH2 is a great game but gameplay wise it's pretty terrible when there's any combat involved.

Trust me on this.
I've played all these games for hundreds of hours and speedrun most of them on a regular basis.
The combat system isn't the main selling point of any of these games, but SH2 really shat the bed on it, way worse than most other entries in the series.

>-you don't get to experience the best ending if you don't pay EXTREME CARE to your escort
"Good" end =/= "Best" end.

If anything, Walt Disney ending is THE most disappointing finale you can give to such story. The "Bad" fits the tone way better.

Not him, but SH3 controls WAY smoother than 2.
>rehashed locations
you mean the totally re-skinned hospital + teaser bit of west-side SH?

>but just because it has very poor combat
Why did you have to ruin your credibility with such stereotypical bullshit ?

Because it's genuinely true, regardless of your opinion on it.
1, 3 and both have better combat.
4 does too, in theory, but it has other problems that prevent it's combat from being as enjoyable as 1 or 3.

It fucks with the hit confirms and other feedback so even SH2's combat ends up being slightly better purely out of better care for details when you actually hit or shoot something, so even if it's mechanically inferior overall the experience is better in 2 than it is in 4 when you fight shit.

>1, 3 and both have better combat.
3, sure.
1? On what basis exactly?

And this' coming from a HC SH1-fag.

>clunky

There's that word again...

>1? On what basis exactly?
1 is arcadey and snappy as fuck.
As long as you don't play it like you're trying to play RE1-3, and actually work within it's systems, you'll realize it's faster than all the other SH games combat wise.
Harry seems like a retarded tank but if you work with how he moves and aims, instead of fighting him, he's unexpectedly precise and can move from target to target faster than all the other protags.
Melee combat still isn't great (as it's not great for most SH titles anyway), but it does it's job.
Mostly, he's the best and quickest when it comes to ranged combat, by far.
The correct word that i used correctly when describing the combat in SH2 specifically, yes.

I legitimately cannot see major differences in the combat of 1,2,3 and you seem to be nitpicking and blowing minor things out of proportion.

Sorry, but you are quite literally talking out of your ass.
Being able to circle strafe around targets while emptying your handgun alone makes SH2's combat several steps above 1's.
