No, Smash players just require instant gratification and think you can tell how good or bad a character is after an hour in training mode.

They also simultaneously believe that bad characters are a waste of money but good characters are overpowered and need to be nerfed to the ground. They just complain for the sake of it.

I used to play loads of Smash Bros. until I played Tekken and it is honestly bewildering to me now that Smash Bros. gets away with so few moves

If I was bragging I'd have pretended to be in elite, I was painting a picture of dipping and rising back up because that was the whole point of my post. You're right, GPS is trash and I wish the numbers were invisible. I feel too afraid to play characters I have in elite because I don't want them to fall back out, so I can't play my favorite characters anymore. Arena is the answer but also a problem because you have to wait too long to play if you lose. I prefer the ranking system in games like Street Fighter 4, the only other fighting game I've played online, because it felt a lot more as if you get placed where you belong and there's not feeling of being an imposter about to get exposed like I feel in elite.

you get damage by playing keep away with the the guns and the curse move a bit, and his forward smash and down smash are so fast you can safely whip em out at certain distances and spot dodge whatever your opponent retaliates with most of the time

Tekken has long move lists, but most characters have a tiny number of openers and always do largely the same combo and entirely the same combos on infinite stages.

Comparing tekken to smash and saying tekken is better/deeper because it has more moves is a total fallacy. Personally I would say they're about equal in that regard but where smash has higher APM and more context based knowledge, Tekken has way higher input difficulty and is more punishing when you fuck up.

I think you have to wait until after he puts the gun away to react, which is about 1 second after a shot
It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it, though I still fuck up sometimes with the spinning shot and die

Good post. Look at Tekken movelists and look at the amount of moves people use in a match. For older characters it's usually less than 1/6 and for the newer characters that have "only" 40-50 moves it's still 1/3rd. I'd still argue Tekken is the deeper game, but using movelists as an excuse just means they don't really play Tekken.

Oh yeah, his up-B as a recovery move is great, no doubt about that. I just can't get behind using it as a reliable attack.
I'm average at Smash Bros though, it could just be that I'm bad.

When you learn how to play him correctly he’s low high tier. He’s one of the best edge guarders in the game and when you figure out how to use his guns effectively he’s extremely nible. They’re difficult to get the hang of and they do very little damage that should be increased but he’s a strong character.

The depth comes from movement and physics. I play normal fighting games and smash and i’d say they’re both equally deep
