1. He's a western character from a western series. Yes, a lot of japanese players got to enjoy it, but nowadays it's hard to find stuff related to him in Japanese talks.
2. He hasn't had a game in 10+ years. This gets worse especially with how N&B went and shat on the entire genre that BK stood for on its first 20 minutes.
3. The NDA deal. There's been a lot of talk with Phil Spencer about how he wants those 2 in the game, but if so, and Nintendo actually has planned them now, MS would more than likely erase all these posts alongside what they said of Steve, Master Chief and other MS reps.
But now this is the biggest argument imo.
4. There's the more likely possibility that Nintendo and Microsoft, despite the fact they're working more than before, never considered a deal to get a MS rep in Smash Ultimate at all.

He was created by Rareware for Nintendo, and rare was promptly sold to Microsoft taking Banjo with them. What is rumored about it? A Switch release? I mean it's not out of the question, but who would port it? All of Xbox's game studios are probably busy with scalett development, including Rare themselves. The Switch isn't near fast enough to do the emulation needed for 360 backwards compatibility, N64 emulation is getting better but the N64 version performs worse than the 360 one, and porting from scratch would be a lot of work. The only way I see this happening is Nintendo paying MS a large amount of money to stream the game via Xcloud.

You DO realize that in one try Banjo-Kazooie sold better than pretty much any exclusive release has for the rest of the Smash characters, right? Banjo's 3 1/2 million and getting on top 10 best selling list for the console on the first try beats out Snake, Megaman, Pac-Man, Bayonetta, and Simon/Richter. A million and some change is the best any of their releases have done, maybe a 2 million here and there.
The only characters who have gotten comparable numbers on Nintendo consoles is Sonic and Ryu/Ken.

You try to spin it by focusing on lifetime sales. But the reality is that Banjo made a bigger splash on Nintendo platforms than most of the guest characters in Smash now.

To be fair, maybe the point being made was that Metroid was pretty dead when Samus got into 64 and continued to be dead by the time Melee came around.

They were in that 2010 Sega racing game as guests, in a 2015 tech demo in SXSW and their latest appearance in Rare Replay on 2015 too. Also they're heavily shown in Game Pass marketing even as of this week's Inside Xbox presentation. Microsoft hasn't forgotten about them, and all the new merchandise that's come around lately just proves this further (see ).

A collectable mechanic? Have collectables spawn on stage when he's being used like notes and jiggies that he uses in his moveset. Like, he collects golden feathers for a move where he becomes invincible and can barge into people, but they're extremely rare and don't spawn often.

Or maybe an egg-switching mechanic that could incorperate lots of eggs from Tooie, like the Clockwork Kazooie eggs, the Grenade Eggs, Fire Eggs and so on.

Or maybe something where Banjo and Kazooie split up like in Tooie and have seperate movesets that you can switch between at any time.
