Plant was the sole highlight of that awful Smash direct, Kencineroar, Spirits being stickers and the story mode being smash tour, and the way they dropped the DLC pass announcement were way, WAY worse.

I have talked to some people, and it seems like it's an age-based thing. If you were "younger" (enough to have played Sonic games as a little kid) then Sonic was by far your biggest reveal, especially since it was finally Mario and Sonic together in one game. If you were older, however, maybe teenager or adult in the late 90s/early 2000's, then you probably liked Snake more, because you were more of the target audience when MGS was popular.

Either way, I think those two and Mega Man get the biggest hype factor overall.

I was the target demographic age of sonic in the 90s, snake was easily a bigger "holy shit" moment. Thats mainly because outside of Twin Snakes, I dont think of Nintendo when I think of metal gear, especially with how in brawl personality wise he was a mish-mash of mgs1 and mgs2 snake. See, I disagree, if only because I never played MGS until later, and while Snake was shocking, Sonic was far more shocking. Sonic vs. Mario was the stuff of playground wars all throughout my childhood, comparisons and rivalries that had burned for decades were finally realized in a game that would outright allow the two to fight one on one. I still remember the day of that announcement, it was an incredible moment of hype in my teenage years, probably one that will never be surpassed. This is the overall experience which I have seen in a lot of others of my age as well, which is why I figure it was that way.
