Why do people like this game all of a sudden?
It was shat on like crazy at its inception.
Its sequel is amazing but this isnt.

Pokemon as whole is mediocre.

Gen 7 as a whole was so mediocre, Gen 5 got boosted.

It was the last gen that feels like it had any sort of effort put into it.

It's the Kanto pandering.

I feel like B/W is above average as far as first entries to a new gen go but of course the additional versions are always superior.

I've always liked this game, cutting away the old pokemon for the main game made it feel fresh, you weren't really interrupted from going to the gymleader immediately, it had very little to no HM usage, gymleaders actually reappear during the story and aren't just one and done. the season system was kino.
The only things which were kinda shit is the map being linear but I didn't mind that and some of the pokemon were admittedly worser versions of the gen 1 pokemon.

I did enjoy the story in B/W. Nothing amazing, but it was comfy enough. Didn't care for the rivals as both of them were rather dull, but good lord were they better than the absolute mess that was XY's "rivals" or the sheer existence of Hau.

Objectively good list.

>Last gen to have Pokemon doing actual idle animations that were full of personality
>Last gen to have a decent post-game, actual difficulty and a bevy of extra content

But because a genwunner saw Garbodor and Vanilluxe, that of course invalidates EVERYTHING. No, I MUST have my shitty fire dwagon, wah wah wah.

Following up. If you’ve never played Pokemon, these are the only games you should bother playing:

FRLG - Emerald - HGSS - Platinum - BW - B2W2

Then move onto fan games like Prism and so on. Disregard the rest.

It's the little touches that made it comfy. It didn't always happen, but when it did, it was nice.

for the record I always liked it. People hated it at the time sure, but they were mostly clueless people who didn't play the games anyway and it became an annoying reddit meme to hate the ice cream, the gears, and the garbage bag. The games became a sort of cult favorite (if such a thing is even possible in a franchise as big as pokemon). People are coming around to it now because the haters have moved on to other things and the two generations that came after it had way way way more frustrating problems.

Just played them for the first time and had a blast. Game was paced very well which was my biggest complaint with X/Y and S/M. Pokemon were cool enough that I had more than enough favorites for a full team fairly quickly. Gyms and gym leaders having an actual role to play as characters in the story felt very good and satisfying. It easily matched gen 2 as my favorites in the series.
