I only liked the Chief parts.

Not at all. Even the 1st party story and cohesive universe was showing sloppy retcons early on with Bungie, and the story became far worse after Bungie divested itself. It's a shame having grown up on the Marathon series, and having enjoyed the Cortana letters and ilovebees (still one of the best damn radioplays ever made). The only thing that could make me care about Halo again at this point would be if they somehow brought Durandal into it. What a pity so few people know what a compelling... antagonist? he was.

Unless the main character is actually master Chief just fucking shit up then it's going to be shit.
